"I heard Leif isn't feeling well. Is he better now?" Myron asked.
Callie tried to act as if nothing had happened, her tone calm. "Who told you that Leif isn't feeling well?"
Myron replied, "I heard it from Aunt Caitlin."
Callie feigned surprise, "My mom?"
An idea suddenly struck her, so she deliberately let her guard down.
As expected, Myron took the bait and asked, "Is something really wrong with Leif?"
Her eyes were cold and sharp, a stark contrast to Myron and Gianna. She had been trying to win him over, to make him feel like part of the family.
But now...
"Yes."
Myron asked worriedly, "Is it serious?"
"He's in the hospital right now. If you're concerned, you can come and see him," Callie said.
"Alright, which hospital? I'll head over right away."
Callie Norris gave him an address and then hung up. Immediately, she dialed Shane's number.
"Hello."
"It's me. Can you send a few skilled people over?"
Shane instantly tensed up. "What's happened?"
"Can you send someone?" Callie didn't mention anything about Leif. It wasn't that she was deliberately hiding it from him; it was because this was a Norris Family matter. If Myron was truly behind it, Shane would never let him off the hook.
Of course, if it really was Myron, she wouldn't let him off either!
"Sure," Shane replied.
Callie gave him the address and then hung up the phone.
On the other end, Shane found it suspicious.
Callie wouldn't ask for help without a reason.
He pondered for a moment, then picked up the phone and dialed the intercom. "Send the driver up."
"Yes, sir," the secretary replied and went to carry out the order.
Soon, the driver arrived.
Shane questioned him, "After you dropped off Callie, did she leave again?"
The driver responded, "She went home, but no one was there. Then she went to the hospital."
Shane raised an eyebrow, immediately sensing that something was up.
At the hospital, Callie waited for about half an hour before the people Shane sent arrived.
All the bodyguards were highly skilled.
Callie needed them not to deal with Myron but to protect Leif.
"You need to stay here. No one is allowed to enter this room without my permission," she instructed.
"Understood. When we arrived, President Robinson personally ordered us to follow your commands. Just let us know if you need anything."
Callie replied, "I don't have any specific orders. I just want you to protect my child."
"Rest assured."
Five bodyguards had arrived in total, and they all looked exceptionally capable.
With everything arranged, Callie left the hospital room.
She trusted Shane's people.
As she reached the elevator, Myron arrived, looking extremely anxious.
"Where's Leif? I need to see him. How is he? Is he getting better?"
Callie calmly observed his face, trying to discern any signs of deceit. She wanted to know how genuine his concern was.
Whether Myron was a master of disguise or acting, she couldn't detect any flaws!
"Myron, come with me," she said, stepping into the elevator and pressing the button for the first floor.
Myron asked, "Did you need something from me?"
Callie gave a soft "mm-hmm."
"What is it?" Myron asked again.
Callie replied, "I'll tell you later."
Myron simply said "oh" and didn't ask further.
When the elevator stopped, Callie stepped out first and headed towards the park behind the hospital, leading Myron into a small forested area.
"Sis, why did you bring me to a place like this?" Myron asked, puzzled.
After ensuring no one was around, Callie finally responded, "I want to ask you, are you sure it was my mom who told you that Leif wasn't feeling well?"
Myron was caught off guard by her question, and his face instantly changed, though he tried to maintain his composure. "Y-yes, that's right."
He was still too immature, not good at hiding his emotions.
His face already showed signs of cracking!
Callie stared into his eyes, and he grew nervous, his gaze darting away.
"I had specifically told my mom not to mention Leif's condition to anyone, especially not to you. I know my mom's character well; if she promised not to say anything, she wouldn't. And when it comes to Leif, she definitely wouldn't tell you."
"What... what does that prove?" Myron forced a smile, trying to maintain his composure.
Callie looked at him intently. "If I remember correctly, the first thing you asked me was if Leif was feeling unwell. Only my mom and I knew about him being sick. My mom wouldn't say anything, and I didn't tell you. So how did you guess that he was unwell?"
Myron was instantly at a loss for words.
His eyes darted around nervously.
He was tensed and agitated.
"I... I..."
He wanted to explain but couldn't find the words.
He was at a loss for what to say!
"Did you put something in Leif's formula?" Callie asked.
At this moment, she was already certain it was him.
Myron hurriedly tried to explain, "No, I didn't mean to, I never intended to harm your child!"
His explanation was so incoherent that it was clear he was feeling guilty.
Callie's demeanor turned cold. "You are Dad's only son. Everything in the Norris Family was meant for you. I never intended to take it away from you. Otherwise, I wouldn't have let you manage the company. Why did you do this?"
"I didn't, I really didn't!" Even at this point, Myron was still trying to deny it, refusing to admit the truth, and kept insisting on his innocence.
Callie didn't know when she had pulled out a scalpel, but now it was pressed against his chest. "I'm a doctor. I can precisely locate your heart. Don't be fooled by the size of this blade. If I stab you with it, even though we're close to the hospital, you won't make it in time. I can end your life right here and now!"
She had called Myron out alone, fully prepared.
There was no way she would meet him in such a secluded place without taking precautions.
From the moment she lured Myron out, she had a plan in mind!
He was genuinely frightened. "Y-you, you..."
"Still not planning to talk?" Callie pressed him.
Seeing no way to hide the truth, Myron stammered, "I really didn't mean it, please believe me..."
"I don't want to hear your excuses!" Callie cut him off sharply. "Tell me, do you still hold a grudge against me, or are you being manipulated by someone?"
Myron shook his head frantically. "I've come to see you as family. I really don't hold any grudges against you. I... I was threatened."
"Who threatened you?" Callie demanded, her eyes piercing.
Myron fumbled for his phone as he spoke, "I don't know who it is. The messages were anonymous, and I couldn't trace anything back to the sender." He handed his phone to Callie. "Look for yourself."
Callie glanced down and then frowned. "Isn't your mom in prison?"
"I went to check. She's really not there anymore. I have no idea who sent me the message. The ID was encrypted, and I couldn't trace anything." Myron could no longer hide the truth and had to confess. "They threatened me with my mom's life. I couldn't just..."
Callie interrupted, "So, they want you to harm Leif?"
Myron nodded. "They sent me the drugs. They seem to know everything about me. Even though they didn't say what the drugs would do to him, I knew it wouldn't be good. So, I only took a tiny amount..."
Callie listened in shock.
Furious, she slapped him across the face with a loud, sharp smack.
"Why didn't you tell me about this? Do you think I can just forgive you because you explained?" Callie couldn't stay calm. Myron had a problem and instead of discussing it with her, he made a rash decision that could have harmed her son!
How could she not be angry, not be furious?
Unable to contain her rage, she growled, "This isn't over between us!"
"I know, it's all my fault. I'm sorry." Myron hung his head low, the bright red mark of a handprint visible on his face.
Callie wasn't having any of it.
"Spill it. Besides drugging Leif, what else did they make you do?"
Myron confessed, "They sent me information about the casino on the ship and told me to leak it to the media. I think they didn't want to be traced back, so they used me as a pawn, threatening me with my mom to control me."
Callie recalled what Henry had said. The information he found confirmed that Myron had leaked the information to the media.
So who was behind manipulating him?
"I know I was wrong. Please forgive me." With a thud, Myron dropped to his knees in front of Callie. "My mom is still in their hands."
Callie was still furious, but she understood the gravity of the situation. "I can't forgive you easily for this. No matter what your reasons were, you almost got my child killed!"
She was practically seething with anger.
"I know." Myron's eyes reddened with tears. "I'm scared for my mom... Even though she has her flaws, she's still my mom. I can't just abandon her..."
Callie turned her head, "We'll deal with this later. Right now, we need to figure out who we're dealing with. If we don't, we'll be out in the open while they're hiding in the shadows. We won't stand a chance!"
Myron nodded vigorously, "You're right, sis."
Callie clenched her fists, "You call me 'sis,' but you don't trust me. When things went wrong, instead of coming to me, you let others manipulate you. You almost got Leif hurt. Do you have any idea how small he is...?"
Thinking about the suffering Leif endured made her voice break.
"I'm sorry..."
Callie didn't want to hear that anymore.
"From now on, if you get any orders, you tell me immediately," she said firmly.
Myron nodded again.
"With more people, we have more options." Callie couldn't figure out who it might be. After all, getting someone out of jail wasn't easy. But targeting her child? That had to be someone who hated her deeply.
Who could hate her that much?
"So, what do we do now? Leif is safe for the moment, but they'll definitely try again," Myron said.
"Wait until you get more information. For now, go home."
With that, Callie turned and walked away. Leif was alone in the hospital. Even though there were people watching over him, she couldn't feel at ease.
Back in the hospital room, she saw Shane sitting by the bed!
How could he be here?!
Callie Norris immediately tensed up.
His appearance was too sudden!
Callie tried to compose herself, forcing a smile. "What brings you here?"
Shane looked up, his face expressionless and calm. "Where have you been?"
"I... had some things to take care of," Callie replied evasively. She deliberately avoided Shane's gaze and walked over to the table, pouring herself a glass of water. She took a sip to buy herself some time. "You still haven't told me why you're here."
Shane's voice turned slightly cold. "My son isn't feeling well. Shouldn't I come to check on him?"
Callie lowered her eyes, feeling guilty.
Shane stared at her for a few seconds, but she showed no intention of coming clean.
He felt anger rising within him.
This was their child.
Now that Leif had been harmed, she was deliberately hiding it from him. Did she not trust him? Or was there something else?
"I'm taking Leif with me," Shane declared.
Callie's eyes shot up. "On what grounds?"
"On the grounds that he's my son."
"Your son, yes, but I gave birth to him. Would you have a son if I hadn't?" Callie retorted urgently.
Shane stared at her for a moment before speaking slowly, "Without me, do you think you could have had him on your own?"
Callie was taken aback. Why did that sound so... inappropriate?
She knew Shane's temper well enough to realize that confronting him head-on wouldn't do her any good. She had to back down for now. "Leif isn't feeling well. You can't take him out of the hospital."
"Why isn't he feeling well?" Shane asked.
If Callie would just come clean now, he might let it slide.
He had found out from his driver that Callie had rushed to the hospital, so he had done some investigating. He discovered that she had left in a panic because Leif was unwell.
Shane had already spoken to the doctor and had a rough idea of Leif's condition.
It was clear that Callie knew who was responsible for Leif's illness, but she wasn't saying anything.
"Let me handle this. Trust me," Callie said, looking at him.
Shane's expression remained cold. "Handle it? Trust you?"
Callie insisted, "This is a family matter..."
"But it involves my son. For his health, I have to take him. I'll get the best doctors to care for him." With that, he gently picked him up. His movements were careful and practiced, as if he had done this many times before.
Callie grabbed his arm. "Don't be impulsive..."
"Callie, I'm not being impulsive." His tone was calm now, but he knew exactly what he needed to do. First, protect his son. Second, find out who hurt him and make them pay, no matter who it was.
Callie said, "It was Myron. He didn't mean to..."
She knew Shane was already angry, so she had to be honest.
She had just started a relationship with Shane and they didn't trust each other enough yet. Misunderstandings were unnecessary, so she explained.
Moreover, she hoped she could convince him to let her handle this matter.
"I understand." Shane interrupted her before she could finish.
Callie wanted to say more, but Shane spoke first. "You're the child's mother. If you're worried, you can come with me."
Callie hesitated briefly. "Let me hold the baby."
She agreed.
However, Shane Robinson didn't hand the baby over to her. "I'll hold him."
In private, he had studied quite a bit about how to hold a baby.
Though he wasn't completely familiar with it yet, he wasn't entirely inexperienced either.
Callie bit her lip and tried to explain for Myron, "He didn't mean to, he was just..."
"Don't talk, you'll wake the baby," Shane cut her off, clearly not wanting to hear any more.
Callie had no choice but to keep quiet.
The bodyguards followed them as they walked.
Shane didn't head back to the villa; instead, he took Leif to the place where he had previously kept Callie.
Not many people knew about this place, making it much safer than the villa.
Additionally, he arranged for people to guard the place 24/7, ensuring even more security.
Just as he put Leif down, Gabriel arrived.
Shane had called him over.
Although Gabriel no longer practiced medicine, he still had connections. Shane needed Gabriel to find the best, most reliable doctor to serve as Leif's family doctor, no matter the cost.
Gabriel indeed had the connections. Although he had reluctantly left his beloved profession, he had to follow his mother's arrangements and work for the company for Cynthia's sake.
Gabriel ran through everyone he knew in his mind and finally found a suitable candidate.
"Leave this to me," Gabriel said confidently.
"Make it quick," Shane replied.
"Got it." Gabriel glanced at Callie and asked, "Why are you suddenly looking for a doctor for the child? You're a doctor yourself. Wouldn't you be more reliable than a family doctor?"
Callie knew that Shane was acting out of anger right now, which was why he was making such decisions.
However, she specialized in surgery. When it came to treating illnesses, a pediatrician would be more professional.
Each field has its own experts, so finding the right specialist was important.
But on another note, when it comes to taking good care of a child, no one can do it better than the biological mother.
Shane was looking for a doctor mainly because of the child's health.
Callie asked, "How are things between you and Cynthia now?"
Gabriel sighed, "I've taken control of the Byrne Family. My mother agreed to let me marry her, but if I can't..."
He didn't finish his sentence, but the meaning was clear!
Callie sighed deeply. It seemed that things between him and Cynthia were still not going well. Is everyone dealing with their own uncontrollable issues?
The next day.
The three-day deadline had arrived.
Old Master Robinson came to the company. He had been restless these past few days, watching the company's stock drop and his wealth shrink. How could he not be anxious? He even personally convened a board meeting!
He demanded that Shane explain the situation to all the board members. If his explanation failed to satisfy them, he would be removed from his position as president.
Eric, who hadn't shown up at the company for a long time, also came along with the old man. It was clear now that Shane had grown wings and wouldn't compromise for the Old Man anymore.
Moreover, he had neglected Shane's child and Callie, causing a rift between them. Now, the Old Man had no choice but to side with his second son because he had no other options.
"Shane, everything you have was given by me. Taking it back would be just as easy," Old Master Robinson said bluntly, not even bothering with the pretense of civility.
Shane remained expressionless, revealing nothing of his current emotions.
Eric was in a good mood now that he had returned to the company, especially with the old man's support. His position was legitimate and undisputed.
"Shane, the company faced such a huge issue, and you failed to handle it properly, causing significant losses. You need to explain yourself to the entire board of directors," Eric leaned back in his chair, looking confident and smug.
Shane remained silent.
He had been managing the company for many years, and even without saying a word, there were still people who supported him.
"The recent drop in the company's stock was caused by Damian's actions. What does that have to do with President Robinson? Blaming President Robinson for this is just too much! It's completely unreasonable!"

Sure enough, people immediately began to side with Shane and speak up for him.
Some even stood up and expressed their support for him to continue as president. After all, everyone had witnessed Shane's capabilities. Although they didn't hold many shares, they had received substantial dividends due to the company's good performance. If someone else took over, could they still expect to earn money so effortlessly?
They harbored doubts, especially after what Damian had done, making both him and his father seem unreliable.
Of course, Old Master Robinson dared to convene this board meeting because he had privately contacted several board members to support Eric.
That's why Eric was so confident.
Originally, he had intended to support Damian. After all, Damian was young and had some skills. However, due to the casino incident, Damian was still under investigation. It was impossible for him to come to the company, and he couldn't convince the board to support him.
Given the circumstances, they had no choice but to support Eric!
"I think Eric is more suitable. He's older and more experienced. Isn't he just as capable as Shane? Moreover, Eric is his uncle. Shane should voluntarily step aside and let his uncle take the position, rather than clinging to it himself!"
"Are you saying that ability is determined by age?" Someone immediately retorted, disagreeing with the previous statement. "Ability is measured by the value one creates. Eric has been idle for years; he probably doesn't even know what the market looks like now."
The other party was rendered speechless by the sharp rebuttal.
After all, while the Robinson Family had inherited and amassed immense wealth over generations, it was Shane who had taken the family's business to new heights. Despite his youth, his achievements over the years were undeniable and irrefutable.
The large conference room fell into an instant silence.
"I think this matter should be decided based on seniority..."
"What do you mean by seniority? If we're talking about seniority, what does Eric have besides his age? In what way can he compare to President Robinson?"
Someone had just begun to speak in favor of Eric, but their words were cut off and they were left speechless by the immediate rebuttal.
Shane hadn't approached any of the board members beforehand, even though he knew his grandfather would likely pull this move.
Because Shane had a backup plan, he wasn't concerned at all about the position of President of Skyreach Corporation!
He was merely disheartened by his ruthlessness. No, it wasn't just him; the entire Robinson Family were cold-blooded creatures, including himself!
"Chairman Robinson, if you've reached a conclusion, just tell me directly," Shane said, standing up, too tired to listen any longer.
"We're in the middle of a board meeting. How can you just leave the room?" Old Master Robinson said angrily.
He believed that those siding with Shane were deliberately opposing him, people Shane had planted to defy him.
Now, Shane leaving the meeting room was undoubtedly a sign of disrespect, showing he didn't care about him at all!
Shane's gaze swept over, cold and indifferent. "Whether it's dismissal or leaving the company, I don't care."
He didn't hold Skyreach Corporation in high regard. Over the past three years, he had already moved all the company's business to overseas branches.
With him, Skyreach Corporation was still the giant it once was. Without him, Skyreach Corporation was nothing.
"If you want it, you can have it," Shane said, his tone neither warm nor cold, neither hurried nor slow, as calm as a gentle breeze. His demeanor took Old Master Robinson by surprise.
However, he quickly regained his composure.
But was this intentional?
After all, someone had just given him a strong backing.
Old Master Robinson couldn't believe that Shane hadn't done anything behind the scenes.
He couldn't believe Shane didn't care about the Robinson Family's business or the CEO position of Skyreach Corporation.
"Chairman, I believe the recent drop in the company's stock is entirely due to Damian's reckless behavior being exposed by the media. If anyone should be held accountable, it should be him. Since he's currently under investigation, Eric should explain the situation, considering Damian is his son."
Upon hearing that Shane was about to leave, some people panicked.
Not all the board members were fools; some were smart enough to recognize Shane's value.
If he left, then Skyreach Corporation would no longer be the same.
So, they desperately tried to persuade him to stay.
Old Master Robinson frowned deeply as he listened!
Eric couldn't hold back either, "The mess was indeed caused by Damian, but as the company's CEO, shouldn't Shane have taken measures to minimize the damage? I heard he didn't even bother to handle the situation and just dumped it on the PR department. Those useless folks in PR didn't come up with any plan, which is why things have gotten so bad!"
The conference room fell silent once again.
Shane, as the CEO, had indeed failed to take action, leading to the stock's continuous decline.
There was no denying that Eric had a point.
Finding nothing new in the discussion, Shane stepped out of the conference room.
Eric slammed his hand on the table and stood up, "Shane, stop right there!"
"What kind of attitude is that? Your grandfather is still here, how can you be so disrespectful? Even if he weren't here, I'm still your uncle. How can you just walk out like that?"
Shane didn't even pause, not sparing Eric a glance.
Fuming, Eric turned to his father, "Dad, look at him! You've spoiled him so much that he doesn't even understand basic manners!"
Old Master Robinson knew Shane's temperament well.
He fell into deep thought.
Did Shane really not care about the CEO position?
Or did he have a hidden plan?
"Dad..."
"Shut up!" Old Master Robinson shot his son a glare, thinking how could he be so impatient? Not even as composed as the younger generation?
"Since everyone has their own opinions and we can't reach a conclusion right now, let's adjourn this meeting," Old Master Robinson sensed something was off and decided to end the meeting for now.
"Chairman, I believe there might be a reason behind this incident. President Robinson has always been meticulous with the company's affairs, and everyone can see that. Besides, to error is human; no one is perfect. I don't think it's necessary to replace him."
Someone was still firmly supporting Shane.
Old Master Robinson nodded on the surface, but he had other plans in mind.
It seemed he would have to deal with Shane directly.
"I will consider this carefully," Old Master Robinson said.
Eric panicked upon hearing this, thinking that his father might support Shane again. If that happened, all his efforts would be in vain. "Dad..."
"I know what I'm doing," Old Master Robinson interrupted his son.
Eric had no choice but to keep quiet, though he was extremely anxious inside.
...
Callie stayed at Shane's private residence, never leaving as she took care of Leif.
Sometimes, even when Leif fell asleep, she wouldn't put him down, letting him sleep in her arms.
Shane had arranged for a doctor to come and check on his health.
It was only temporary.
The person Gabriel was waiting for hadn't arrived yet.
At this moment, Leif had finished his formula and was feeling energetic, babbling and cooing. Callie spoke to him, "Baby, when will you start calling me 'Mommy,' huh?"
"Goo goo, ga ga—"
Callie held him close and kissed his cheek. "My sweet baby, you need to grow up quickly, okay?"
Suddenly, the phone on the table buzzed.
She glanced at it and saw it was from home, so she answered. Caitlin's voice came through, "Callie, Myron is in trouble."
Callie asked, "What happened to him?"
"I'm not exactly sure. I just got a call from the hospital. They said he's in critical condition..."
Callie quickly pieced things together and said, "Mom, you should go check on him."
"What about you?" she asked.
"I can't go right now," Callie replied, holding Leif. First, she couldn't leave at the moment, and second, she needed to confirm whether this had anything to do with Shane.
"Alright, take good care of Leif. If anything happens here, I'll call you," Caitlin replied. Callie let out a small hum.
After hanging up the phone, she sat on the couch for a few seconds before standing up and picking up Leif. She walked to the door and addressed the bodyguards stationed outside, "I need to go out. Get the car ready."
"Where are you going?" one of the bodyguards asked.
"I'm going to see Shane Robinson," Callie replied, using his full name without hesitation.
The bodyguard immediately responded, "Yes, ma'am."
Instead of calling for a driver, two bodyguards took on the task themselves—one to drive and the other to keep a vigilant eye on their surroundings, ensuring her protection at all times.
In the car, Leif was restless in Callie's arms, his tiny hands moving about and even grabbing at her hair.
Before long, the car arrived at Skyreach Corporation.
As Callie was about to get out, one of the bodyguards had already stepped out to open the car door for her.
Cradling Leif protectively, she bent down to exit the car and took the elevator straight to the top floor. Having been there before, she knew exactly where Shane's office was. With practiced ease, she walked to his office and pushed open the door, only to be greeted by the sight of a woman sprawled seductively across Shane's desk!
