Mother Duck cracked

Mother Duck cracked
Elsie’s pov~

In the dark, we stood against danger, against our very lives.

We faced death and it still was cowardly to show us its face or where it would strike from.

“Theo,” I whispered. He touched me lightly, signalling he could hear me. I held on to him, and he eventually led my hand to cling to his shirt.

“Dont let go” he whispered back, Together he pulled me towards where he stepped.

I heard whispers in the dark, and Terry's gurgling voice as she lay on the cold floor, dying like I once did.

This time she wasn't coming back, and her son Angel was lost.

“I can touch the wall” he whispered again, I felt relief, “Finally” I whispered back.

“Stay quiet, we don't want to draw them to us, follow my lead I'll try to find us a way out, they came out from a wall” he finished.

I obeyed and stayed quiet, this time I had to follow his lead.

His primal need to protect me took over, like a bloodhound he mapped his territory.

“I feel a crack” he started again, this time slowly I felt his hand creep around my back and he pulled me closer to him.

“Are you sure?” I asked, and I could hear the whispers getting louder and louder.

“At least give me the sword” I said, “we are not discussing this again, im not letting you near any weapons” Even though it irritated me he was right, my hands were not sturdy enough to wield a weapon right now.

“I can hear them behind us, I'm so scared” I hate that I had to admit that to a man.

But I was, like a frail little girl I clung to him, right now I wasn't the terrifying Miss Mafia, I was little Elsie, daddy’s little girl.

I heard him pull at the crack until there was light, and immediately the voices behind us amplified.

“Hurry! I can't hold it for much longer!” he roared, the dim light was enough to squeeze through.

Quickly I made my way to it, I went under his arms and pushed myself through the cracks and immediately it snapped shut.

“Theo!” I cried, banging again the wall but it was sealed.

“Shit!” I swore, punching the wall, I jumped back in pain before screaming at it.

“Theo!” I called again, no answer, all alone in a strange room I turned in fear as tears streamed down my eyes.

I looked more like a cosy office, I walked further in, and there was another red door.

Is this the way out? Or is there another trap waiting for me?

I yearned for Tiffany's soothing voice.

When I thought things were finally going my way, I started to feel it slip from my fingers.

No one seemed to be around, it was as dead as night, if a pin dropped I could hear it except for the whirring sound that came from inside the room with a red door.

I looked around the room again and noticed a shelf, a littered desk and a green box.

I walked towards the table, where files of strange symbols sat.

I rummaged through the mess until I saw Tiffany’s picture.

Who are the people and why do they have my daughter’s image?

I saw pictures from radiology reports and CT scans.

I rummaged through until I saw a laptop, I quickly turned it on, and I saw sequences of genetic codes on it as the screen lit up.

“Where the hell is this place?” I asked myself.

“Did you help her?” I heard a voice ask, and I turned sharply.

I knew that voice, it was an angel, “Hey angel where are you?” I called out to him, no response.

“Dont be afraid” I said, I heard whimpers follow, “She's dead isn't she” he asked, his voice breaking.

I was quiet, How can I console this crying child, knowing fully well his mother was never coming back?

“I'm sorry angel, about your mom” I said, It seemed to have stirred him.

I saw him stick his arm out from the corner of the room.

I rushed over to him before lowering myself to where he hid.

“Hey, are you okay?” I asked, putting an arm over his neck.

Slowly I pulled him out until he was sitting on my lap.

He hugged me, his innocent face made me wonder if Angelo had been just as cute as he was when he was this age.

The resemblance was too big to ignore, he was a lying cheat, and nothing could ever change that.

Somehow I suspect he has a hand in this, it's no coincidence that his spawn happens to be hiding underground with his mother, one of his mistresses, Evelyn mustn't know about it.

Pathetic, he was still her puppy and he trembled in her presence.

“Angel, what is this place?” I asked, and he shook his head before touching my arm.

“My mom used to tell me about the outside, what does it look like?” he asked as tears streamed down one cheek.

“Do you….” I was too heartbroken to imagine that Angelo and his wicked sister would subject an innocent child to a life committed underground.

“Do you live here angel?” I asked rubbing his head, “Yes, with my mom” he sniffled, poor boy.

How could Angelo do this?

For Evelyn! He is willing to go this far to please my sister?

I should have known he was irredeemable, how I'm going to spend my days regretting the day I said yes to his touch.

“Do you know who your father is?” I asked him, hoping somehow there was some dignity left in Angelo.

“No, I only see Mom and the man in white”

I was stunned, “The man in white?” I asked.

“Yes every time he comes, I cannot remember anything else, I only see mom,” he managed to say.

I hugged him tight, the man in white, who could it be? Angelo? Or Selene dressed as a man?

Something about this rubbed me wrong, I could feel the same pull to find the truth just as the day I almost died.

Why is he keeping his son locked up?

Is Evelyn finding out worth it?

“Mom was going to give me a baby sister to play with,” he sobbed.

Which could only mean one thing, he has been down here.

Down here to fuck terry over and over again, how long has this been going on and worst of all, how many other hidden location is he keeping his mistresses and his spawns from my sister?

Oh Angelo, you two faced bastard, I've got you now, I see you for the evil fucker you are.

I refuse to be trapped like a rat down here.

I touched his arm, “Is there a way out?” I asked, and he nodded softly before pointing at the green box.

I was surprised, I thought he would point at the red door but then I started to wonder.

I hadn't given it much thought, I'd been occupied by my fears to give it attention, and it was no longer than 2 seconds.

But now I'm curious, what exactly is in this mysterious box?

Elsie’s  pov~

An inch closer to the suspicious box, each step I took I looked back at angel whose crying face inspired me to advance further.

Soon I was faced with it, it was a weird-looking box, it was lined with ribbons and the lid had a hole on top of it, I was too scared to touch it but I had to.

I thought of Theo, if he were here he wouldn't be letting me near it, talk more of touching it.

I touched the box and snapped my eyes shut, but nothing happened.

I sighed, I reached around it to find where I could open it from but the box didnt have any.

It was as though the lid was sealed alongside it and the only way to get into the box was through the tip.

“Angel” i called, gesturing for him to join me here, he got up slowly and walked over to me.

I touched his hair again, “Are you sure about the box?” I asked, careful not to hurt his tender feelings.

He nodded, “yes the man in white, he take out a card when i pretend to sleep” he assured.

I sighed again before ruffling his hair in pity, i couldnt imagine what this young boy had faced in the hands of his ruthless father and aunt.

“It's hard to open an angel, do you know how to?” I asked.

He nodded again and stretched out his hand for the box.

Hesitant at first, but then I wondered what the hell, he might as well.

I slowly lifted the box and dropped it in his little hands, just like a magic trick the box opened in all four corners to reveal a card.

It looked like a key card, I was stunned, How was he able to do that?

“Who taught you that?” I asked, and he shook his head at me.

“The man in white say i must never see outside, too dangerous” he said in a little sad tone.

You could tell he badly wanted to see the outside.

“You and Mom have been living here alone?” I asked him again, taking the key card, suddenly the box closed around my hand and I couldn't get it out.

“What's going on?” I asked, trying to pull out my hand but it doesn't budge.

“Leave the card, you can't touch it, only the man in white and I can pick it up” he stated.

Where the hell am I and what is this place?

Sylvie had surely alerted Lancelot that we were snooping around, maybe with a code word.

This wasnt a vibe store it looked like an underground bunker of some sort.

Anger surged through me, how could angelo spend so much of my father’s money building world ending bunker for his mistresses.

What was his mission? Become a mole and burrow through the ground one location at a time.

The more I unearth what’s going on the angrier I get.

I dropped the card and the box opened again, Angel reached for the card and picked it up effortlessly.

I grabbed his hand, “alright angel where do we go next?” I asked him, his frail littlr hand pointed towards the red door.

I should have known, there was no other way.

He started towards the door, suddenly i heard a voice from a comm line, “you should quit while you are ahead” it said before giving a small laugh.

I turned frantically, “who thr hell are you?” I asked putting angel behind me for his protection.

“I run this place” he replied back, “lancealot?” I asked, the voice gave a cackling laugh before settling back, “no but he is a beloved guardian, i am who they call a soul Alchemist” he stated.

I was confused, “What do you want with me?” I asked.

“I know who you are Mrs Moretti, snooping around places like this will get you killed faster than a car, you shouldn't be here” he sneered.

“Then you know why I'm here don’t you?”

There was silence, “What do you think im going to find down here huh?” I asked,

“Your death, this is not something you wish to see Mrs Moretti” he threatened.

“You think im afraid of dying? You think you are my first rodeo, you really must not know about me, im going to figure out what you are hiding and who you are” I said boldly.

Silence followed, and slowly I stepped back until we reached the door.

“Brace yourself Elsie because the truth you know is bitter. If you open that door I'm afraid I'm not going to let you leave this place alive, I don't care whose wife you are” I heard him say.

“Then you know who my husband is?” Of course, he would, he paid him to look after his mistress and his accidental spawn.

“I know you shouldnt be asking dangerous questions, how about i help you? Give you a way out of this” he mentioned.

I waited quietly for him to continue, I heard an angel’s sobs behind me.

“Are you okay?” I asked touching him gently, “That's him, the man in white”

My anger deepened.

“So you are the one, terrorising this little boy”

He laughed manically, “I'll give you the same option I gave your counterpart, just before I put a bullet in his head” he said.

I felt the life slowly leave my body, “Theo…. You killed Theo!” I cried in pain, and a weakness I never thought possible overtook me.

I was on my own now, Why did I come here?

“You have only one option of leaving here alive Mrs Moretti, im going to make it so you dont remember anything, or…. You face the consequences and I have your corpses delivered to Mr Moretti himself, From the look of things I think he will be quite happy with the latter” he suggested, almost immediately the vents opened and blue smoke came out and slowly it started filling the room.

I covered my nose and motioned for Angel to do the same.

“None of those options sounds good to me Mr Alchemist, so im going to do what I always do” With angel’s other hand in mine I led him to where he slots in the card.

The door beeped green and it opened.

“I'll find my way out, and trust me when I find out who you are, you better pray for your soul, because im not a forgiving person, you will face my wrath”

With my back against the open door, I walked into the room with Angel’s little hand firmly in mine.

It's time to figure out a way out of here, but not before I find out who this bastard working for Angelo is and what he has been doing.
