Chapter 4 - Fish on a Dry Land
Hours had passed so fast, and our professor next to Professor Toriko did not attend her class. I was walking towards the comfort room when someone suddenly pulled my hair from behind—a bad omen.
"I didn't know that you're a b*tch too! I never thought you're a snake. Marc is mine. Mine!" She was still pulling my hair, and it was really hurting me. No one deserves this!
I was able to save my hair from her because she let me get it without any difficulty. But I never expected the next thing that happened. They were able to bring me inside the comfort where no one was there. It seemed like it was well-planned. "Stop this, Zen! I'm begging you!" I tried to scream but I could not, my life was in danger. I could not help myself because there was Lura pointing a sharp knife near my naked neck.
"One move, and you'll see what you're looking for, baby girl!" Lura whispered to my right ear while Zen locked the comfort room door.
"What do you want from me, Zen?! I'm not flirting with Marc! He just handed me a letter from someone, and it's definitely not from him." But I knew that she would not listen to me because she was very preoccupied with anger.
"You know me, b*tch! No one dares to fight me because I'm a queen. No one can beat a queen like me. Even a king can't!" She devilishly laughed like she owned everything. I could sense how jealous she was, but her jealousy was of no point.
"I'm not a b*tch, Zen. You know that. So please let me go. I'm begging you once again. I won't come near Marc again," I pleaded.
"That's of no use, Kae!" I saw how Lura smiled. She really wanted me to get hurt. Luckily, Maybe was not with us. But there was a part of me that was silently wishing Maybe to be with us to rescue me. "Do it, Zen! Don't give it a second thought!"
"Don't listen to her, Zen! I'm not an enemy. I won't get Marc from you. Marc won't like nor love me because I'm just a nobody. Please, let me go." I was like a hopeless fish on a dry land begging for water. And there was Zen, a psychotic vulture who was ready to claim my life. I hate her to death.
Zen did not say any word until I found myself crying in the corner of the comfort room. Then, I saw a real mess on the floor, my dying hair scattered like there was a purge happening. The anger in my system could not stop from burning because a demon set it on fire. The demon who was not a barber but was able to cut my hair! The demon none other than Zen! I did not know how I could go home. I was like a boy with my horrible haircut! It was disgusting, for Pete's sake! She made me look pathetic! She was wicked. She was a witch! If I could only kill her, I would really do. What she did was beyond the limit!
"Kae! What happened to you?!" Maybe almost cried after she saw my situation. "Can you walk? Let's go." She held my arms, trying to help me to stand, but I did not let her do it any longer. I pushed her away.
"Cut the crap, Maybe! I can walk. I'm not disabled. Leave me alone, could you?!" I knew she was worried, but I was eaten by my anger. I knew she was not part of what happened, but she was one of them...she was part of the CINCO!
"I am here to help you to get out of here." Our other schoolmates were just listening outside the comfort room. They were like buzzing bees again, waiting for the show to end. But the show was just starting. They did not call the professors nor the guards to help me. They were useless.
"I can manage, so leave me alone. I don't need you here, so you're free to leave now," I said angrily. I could not contain my anger. My hair became a mess, and it was so hard to just accept it.
"I won't!" she said firmly. What she said would not make any difference anymore because my decision was final.
"Then, I will." I stood up with all the confidence to face what I needed to face. I knew that the bees were just waiting to see the hopeless victim of the vultures.
I heard Mayb's sobs before I could exit from the comfort room. Why would she cry? I suddenly stopped. I faced her with a dark aura and anger in my whole system. "Don't cry, Maybe. You're still my friend," I said emotionlessly.
After that, I immediately went out of the place with my chin up. I did not care about what the bees could buzz about my hair. I did not care about what they could think of me. I must be strong from now on. I should not let them bully me again. The trial period is already done.
The bees were quiet while I was walking away. I was once again the center of attraction at Corto University. I was like a celebrity because of so many eyes staring at me. I was really born to be a star.
I did not attend the afternoon class because I went to a barbershop to fix my hair. I told the barber there to make sure that I would still look nice even if I had a haircut from most of the men out there. I would still march on my graduation day even I would look like a man or a tomboy because of my haircut. No one could stop me from graduating from Corto University. It was really my dream school, and we already invested a big amount of money for my education. There is no turning back. It is too late to step back.
Mama would be mad about my hair because she wanted me with long hair on my graduation day. She told me that I was prettier with my thirty inches long hair. I did not want to disappoint her, but I had already done it. I already lost my long hair because of those vultures! They were the thorn on my neck! And I pitied myself for being a fish on dry land who could not defend herself from the predators.
While on my way home, I did not realize that my eyes were about to water again.
"Why you came too late, Maybe? Why?" I whispered as my hopeless tears started to skip from my eyes again. Is life really unfair?
