Chapter 38 - The Toy Gun and the Promise

"I want to say that I'm so proud of you, Scorpy. You're a grown man now and you really excel in class. I'm also glad that you found someone...that you found Lura already. I hope she'll take good care of you and never leave you like what I did. I don't want you to get hurt again. You don't deserve another set of pains." I did not mind if he became insensitive because he had his reasons like I had my own too. "I always care about you, but I failed to let you see and feel it. I'm sorry, Scorpy."

"I'm also proud of you, kitty. It's not just me who excels in class but also you. Sorry for what our group did to you. I tried to stop them but there were times that I couldn't because they were so persistent on making fun of you. If only I could control their minds," he said before he smiled to me.

"You're still the cute one. Your smile shines." I smiled also and I could not deny that I was very glad that I was with him. "How to be you?" I teased.

"Stop teasing me, sleepy kitty. Did you remember my toy gun?" he asked before he laughed like a kid.

"Of course!" I answered gleefully and I also laughed like a kid. "I hid it somewhere and you cried so bad."

"Yes. You also promised me that you wouldn't make me cry again."

"Wow! Did you remember it?" I asked out of too much surprise. He really did not forget what I had said way back when we were just eight years old. Too young yet he never forgot it. That might be the manifestation of his intelligence.

"Yes. You also failed to fulfill that promise because you made me cry when you left me. Even I was too young that time, I felt how it was to be left by a friend. You disappeared like a bubble and when I saw you in our campus, you were like a mushroom that just sprouted out of nowhere. I was longing for a friend in Corto University not until I met Zen, Lura, Marc, and Maybelle. But despite of having them, I was still longing for your presence because it was you from the start. I had friends during elementary and high school, but we all separated ways when we entered college. Lura became my girlfriend because she was always there for me during the days that I felt lost and alone. I accepted everything about her. I learned to accept her flaws. I don't like a girl who wears revealing clothes, but I also don't want to control Lura. If I met someone other than Lura those days that I felt alone and burdened, she might be my girlfriend now. I get easily attached to a person when I feel alone, lonely, and feeling that I have all the problems on earth. But when I get attached to someone, I won't give up on her even if she gives up on me. Lura was the woman who was there during those days. Now that I'm back on the track...she is still with me. I couldn't leave her. I wouldn't leave her." Lura was really lucky that Dego loved her so much. That he would not leave her no matter what. He was still my dream man who would never be mine.

"Sorry if I failed to fulfil my promise. I was so careless that I never thought that promises are meant to be broken that time. We were so young when I promised you that I would not make you cry again. I really didn't mean to make you cry again. Sorry for the days that I failed to be a friend to you. Sorry because someone needed to be there for you because I wasn't there when you needed me the most...simply because I failed as a friend." I was guilty that I had failed him in many aspects. I just wished that I could make it up to him. I just wished more time for us to enjoy the days before he finally settled down with Lura. I did not know but I was sure that he would get married first than me, but that was if I would really get married.

"I just shared my thoughts to you, and I don't want to hold grudges anymore. Don't worry if you failed as a friend or not, what's more important is you're here and we're okay now. I also failed as your friend, but let's skip that and start a new beginning," he said before he smiled at me. "I missed you, kitty."

"I missed you too, Scorpy! I missed every single thing about you. Let's be friends again!" I wanted to hug him, but I know that it would not be good for others to see us hugging each other even if it was because we were friends. They might not know that I and Dego were friends.

"Let's be friends again. Did I say that we're not friends anymore? Or did you say our friendship was over?" he asked before he laughed again. He seemed so happy that he laughed like it was just the two of us in the mountain. It was so fulfilling to know that I was the reason why he was laughing.

"I mean let's start over again HAHAHA!" Yes, I was not eaten by my shyness to laugh while talking with Dego. It was a good thing that I easily felt comfortable talking to him. "Mama would be so happy to know that we are okay now. She would surely ask a lot about you! She would also be happy to see you. I also have a doll now!" I said enthusiastically and I was so sure that my eyes were also smiling.

"But how about boyfriend?" he asked. He was just teasing me again.
