The next afternoon, Deanna and Lance boarded a plane to Uyrila.
Eula was informed by her subordinate immediately.
"Master, those two have left. Should I arrange a plane for you?"
Knowing their master's intentions, the subordinate asked proactively.
Eula glanced at him but did not agree. She coldly replied, "No need. If I go and Lance finds out, it will seem too deliberate. Lance will warn me. Just have our people keep an eye on them from a distance and see what they are up to."
"Understood."
The subordinate nodded in agreement.
Deanna and Lance were unaware of this.
After nearly twenty hours of flying on a private jet, they finally arrived in Uyrila.
By then, the sky had already turned dark. They landed at a private estate where someone had been waiting for a long time.
The man was dressed in a black suit, tall and muscular. Even through his clothes, one could sense the firmness of his chest and abdominal muscles.
Seeing Deanna and Lance walking hand in hand, he respectfully approached them and said in a deep voice, "Boss."
"Thank you for your hard work during this time."
Lance nodded slightly and then introduced him to Deanna, "This is Killian, my best tracker. I have entrusted him with investigating your mother's matter."
Deanna gave Killian a faint smile, "Hello."
"Hello, missus."
Killian responded humbly.
After the introductions, Lance held Deanna's hand and said, "This is not the place to talk. Let's go inside."
A few minutes later, the three of them were seated in the living room of the estate.
Once seated, Lance looked at Deanna and smiled, "You can ask anything you want now."
Deanna glanced at him and nodded lightly.
"Killian, can you tell me all the information you've gathered here?"
"Of course. Let me start from the beginning."
Killian began explaining how he tracked down the doctor and discovered that the doctor's entire family had died. He then kept watch over the doctor's house while gathering information from neighbors about the doctor's character and frequent haunts.
Deanna listened intently.
The doctor had moved to the town three years ago. According to the neighbors' recollections, he made a grand entrance by buying two farms and building a villa.
The neighbors thought he was a wealthy man on vacation and tried to befriend him. Especially after learning about his profession, they were even more eager to maintain good relations with him since getting medical treatment abroad is very troublesome.
However, the doctor was not an easy person to get along with; he was even considered a rogue doctor. He agreed to treat neighbors but charged exorbitant fees. Worse still, if he saw a beautiful woman in a patient's family, he would threaten her with the patient's life to force her into a relationship with him.
The entire town despised him but felt powerless against him. Eventually, people preferred to endure their illnesses rather than seek his help.
Even so, the doctor remained arrogant, using explicit photos taken in the past to threaten the women he had sexual relations with, coercing them into continuing those relationships.
Later, the incident exploded in the local community. The doctor faced brutal retaliation from the women's families and husbands; his legs and arms were broken, rendering him unable to practice medicine ever again.
Yet even then, he wasn't short of money. He bought himself a wife with money to take care of him, living each day in a drunken stupor. Three months ago, somehow a fire broke out, and he was burned to death.
After hearing this, a complicated expression appeared on Deanna's face. Her feelings were mixed with dissatisfaction and a sense of ease.
A doctor like him was truly a disgrace to the medical profession!
And while it seemed like his death was well-deserved, to Deanna, it still felt far from enough to atone for his sins.
"Did the fire really burn the doctor's house to the ground?" Deanna asked, unwilling to let it go.
Killian nodded. "Yes, it was completely burned down. I checked inside that night; nothing was left intact, though there were still some odds and ends in the basement. But I checked-nothing suspicious was down there. Of course, if missus wants to see it personally, I can guide the way."
Deanna naturally wanted to see it for herself; after all, that's why she had come.
Lance, seeing the eager look on her face, knew what she was thinking and spoke up. "If you're going to go, there's no rush now. You've been on a plane for so long. Get some good rest today and check it out tomorrow after you're refreshed."
"You're right. Since we're here, there's no need to hurry."
Deanna calmed down, flashing a faint smile at Lance.
Later, after a simple meal, the two returned to their room to rest.
But whether it was because of unfamiliarity with the bed or the weight of what was on her mind, Deanna couldn't fall asleep, tossing and turning.
Lance, unable to sleep well because of her restlessness, finally turned on the light and sat up in bed, looking at her helplessly. "If you're really that bothered, how about we go check it out now?"
