As soon as these words were spoken, everyone stopped talking and looked at the person who had just spoken.
Logan and Deanna also turned to look at the speaker, their expressions unreadable.
Facing so many gazes, including the stern and authoritative look of the chairman, the speaker couldn't help but feel nervous.
Even so, he forced himself to remain calm and said, "I have a reason for saying this."
"Oh? What reason?" Logan's voice was cold and indifferent, making it impossible to discern his emotions.
The man gritted his teeth and said, "Not to mention the core data leaked earlier, but among the data leaked this time, there are several pieces of information that only you have. So, it's impossible that the leak came from any of us."
Upon hearing this, everyone frowned in thought and soon showed expressions of realization.
They found that this was indeed the case and began to speak in support of the man.
"Mr. Mercer, I think Ryker is right. We never found the culprit behind the previous data leak, and we don't know where it came from. But this time, there are obvious clues. I think we should thoroughly investigate the people around you. Otherwise, if this happens again, the company's foundation will truly be shaken."
"Exactly. The losses from these two incidents have cost us all of last year's profits."
"We hope Mr. Mercer will consider the bigger picture."
Logan looked at the increasingly agitated crowd, his face darkening.
To be honest, he hadn't considered that the data might have been leaked from his side.
Who was it?
Who had betrayed him?
No matter how angry he felt, he couldn't afford to be distracted by his emotions in the current situation.
He glanced around at the various expressions of the board members and said in a deep voice, "I will definitely investigate this matter thoroughly and give everyone an explanation."
Unexpectedly, a dissenting voice rang out.
"I think it's best if you avoid investigating this matter yourself, Logan. After all, it's possible that someone close to you leaked the company secrets."
Donald raised his chin and met Logan's gaze.
Logan's face immediately darkened. "What, do you think I would cover for the culprit?"
"I didn't say that; you said it yourself. It's not that we don't trust you, Chairman, but the previous incident was never resolved. I'm really worried that this time will be the same. Aren't you all worried too?" Donald looked at the others as he spoke.
Under his gaze, many nodded in agreement, while a few showed anger in their eyes.
These people knew very well that Donald was trying to stir up trouble.
And they were right; Donald did have an agenda.
Over the years, he had always wanted to push the Mercer family out and become the major shareholder of Mercer Group.
However, Mercer Group had developed very well under Logan and Lance's leadership, leaving him with no opportunity.
Clearly, Mercer Group was founded by his great-grandfather and Mercer's great-grandfather together. It was agreed back then that the capable would rise to power. But later on, it became a hereditary position for the Mercer family. Why?
But Donald also knew that with his current abilities, he couldn't dethrone Logan as chairman. So his target was Lance.
"Moreover, given that such significant incidents have occurred twice in a row and Lance, as the company's CEO, has never shown up, isn't that irresponsible? I propose temporarily removing Lance from his position as CEO and selecting someone capable from within the company to take over. This would also alleviate some of the chairman's burden. What do you all think?"
Although Donald addressed his words to others, his eyes were fixed on Logan.
As for the others, they were all taken aback by his proposal.
Deanna's heart leaped into her throat.
She opened her mouth to say something but stopped when she received a look from Logan, signaling her to remain silent for now.
Deanna had no choice but to wring her hands nervously and listen to the others' discussions.
Logan remained silent as well, wanting to see the board's attitude.
Donald naturally noticed Logan's intention and continued, "Let's not discuss it any further. How about this: those who agree with my proposal should raise their hands to show their support; those who disagree should keep their hands down."
After speaking, he was the first to raise his hand.
Seeing this, several board members who supported him also raised their hands in agreement.
Deanna counted them-no more, no less-exactly five. She felt half relieved.
She had counted earlier; there were twelve board members present. Although five supported Donald, five did not-resulting in a tie.
Donald also noticed this and looked displeased. He lowered his hand with a forced smile. "It seems we have a tie. So it looks like you'll still have your work cut out for you. Are you sure you're up for it? I heard you fell ill this morning."
Upon hearing this, the other board members looked at Logan with concern.
Logan cast a cold glance at Donald and said calmly, "Don't worry; it's just a minor issue."
