Chapter 862: The First Encounter

Upon hearing Xavier's words, Lance's expression turned cold. He looked over with a somber gaze and asked, "Since you have suspicions, did you investigate them?"

"I did, but I couldn't find out who gave them the invitation. Moreover, Emily didn't particularly approach the missus tonight; she stayed by Raphael's side the entire time. After we left, for some unknown reason, Emily and Raphael fought. Raphael publicly shouted for a divorce and even hit Emily."

Xavier reported all the information he had gathered. Lance, after listening, found the appearance of these two people quite peculiar.

He pondered for a few seconds and then instructed, "Continue investigating these two. Find out how they got into the banquet and why they argued. Also, keep a close watch on Emily's account!"

"Mr. Mercer, do you suspect that Emily plotted against the missus?" Xavier asked inquisitively.

Lance did not deny it. "We'll know once we investigate thoroughly."

Xavier nodded in agreement and then brought up matters concerning the company.

Meanwhile, Deanna, supported by Eula, returned to her room. Seeing that Eula had no intention of leaving, Deanna felt awkward but couldn't drive her away. She casually picked a topic to chat about.

"This guest room is quite elegantly decorated. That small bronze sword in the display case looks real."

"Miss Jones, you misunderstand. This isn't a guest room. It's a room I specially prepared for Lance. All the decorations here are arranged according to his preferences," Eula replied with a smile, her gaze never leaving Deanna's face.

Seeing Deanna frown made a calculating glint appear in Eula's eyes as she continued, "That bronze sword you mentioned was a gift I gave to Lance when we were in college."

Deanna's expression darkened. She realized that Eula was showing off and deliberately saying ambiguous things to provoke her.

Eula, pretending not to notice Deanna's displeasure, enthusiastically introduced the room's decor. Finally, she added with concern, "By the way, if there's anything in this room that you find uncomfortable, please let me know so I can arrange for changes."

"No need for changes; or you might have to redo everything," Deanna replied with a smile that didn't reach her eyes. "After all, Lance doesn't like this style. But you needn't worry; people's tastes change as they grow up. Don't you agree?"

Agree? You wretch! Eula cursed inwardly but maintained her composure and echoed Deanna's words, "That's right. People do change; it just depends on how they change. However, I believe some people will revert to their old ways eventually."

She finished speaking and looked at Deanna meaningfully.

Deanna met her gaze with a smile that was now icy cold. Before Deanna could say anything, Eula suddenly stood up and said, "Ah, I just remembered something I need to take care of. Miss Jones, you'll be fine alone in the room, right?"

"I'm fine. Lance will be here soon to keep me company. If you have something to attend to, go ahead," Deanna replied deliberately, noticing the displeasure in Eula's eyes and feeling more certain of her suspicions.

After Eula left, Deanna's fake smile vanished instantly. She couldn't stop thinking about what Eula had said earlier; it felt like a heavy stone was pressing on her chest.

After some time, Lance returned and saw Deanna sitting on the bed with a blank expression.

"What's wrong? Why no smile? Are you unhappy?" Lance asked with concern as he approached.

Seeing him, Deanna couldn't hold back her suspicions and questioned him directly, "What exactly is your relationship with Miss Eula? Why does she have a special room and study prepared for you in her house? And she said every item in this room is a gift from her to you?"

As she spoke, an inexplicable sense of grievance welled up inside her, and tears began to fall uncontrollably.

Lance was taken aback by her reaction. He hadn't expected such a strong response from Deanna.

Regaining his composure, he looked at Deanna, who resembled a teary-eyed rabbit, feeling both heartache and amusement.

Fortunately, he managed to suppress his urge to laugh; otherwise, Deanna might have exploded in anger.

"Alright, don't be mad. I'll tell you everything," Lance said as he reached out to pull Deanna into his arms.

Deanna initially resisted but soon found herself overpowered.

Moments later, Lance's deep voice filled the room.

"Last night, I remember explaining that Eula and I have known each other for over ten years..."
