Lance listened to Deanna's words and thought about the things that hadn't been discovered last night. His face suddenly turned cold.
Deanna noticed his sudden change in expression and felt a pang of anxiety. "Lance, is something wrong?"
"Indeed, there is a problem. After knocking you out, they injected something unknown into your body. The medical team here couldn't identify it," Lance said honestly, not hiding the truth from Deanna.
Deanna was taken aback by this revelation, her face changing as well. An unknown substance could be a lurking danger.
"If they can't find out what it is here, maybe the equipment isn't professional enough. Why don't we go to Civil Hospital for another check-up?" Deanna looked at Lance urgently.
Lance held her hand and shook his head. "The equipment here is better than that at Civil Hospital. If they can't find it, no hospital can."
Deanna's heart sank instantly. It wasn't that she hadn't thought of diagnosing herself, but a doctor can't treat themselves, a fact that has been unchangeable since ancient times.
Seeing his fiancee's gloomy expression, Lance felt heartbroken and quickly said, "It's okay. Even if the equipment can't find it, we have other ways."
"If the equipment can't find it, what other ways can there be?" Deanna looked at him dejectedly.
Lance held her hand and comforted her. "Solutions are created by people. There will definitely be a way. Besides, I contacted your master. He agreed to come and help you check."
"My master?" Deanna's mood lifted as she looked at him in surprise.
Lance nodded. "Yes, your master. I found his contact information on your phone."
He said this to prevent Deanna from suspecting that he had private contact with Gunner.
Deanna didn't think much about it after hearing this and even felt much less worried. In her mind, any difficult problem became simple in her master's hands. Even those with terminal illnesses could have their lives extended by him, so she believed her master could definitely help her find out what was wrong.
"When did my master say he would come?" Deanna asked expectantly.
Lance smiled. "He said he would come over once he handled his matters."
Hearing this, Deanna smiled even more happily. "Then I want to go with you to pick up my master."
"As long as your health allows it, I have no objections," Lance said indulgently, looking at Deanna.
While they were talking, there was a knock on the door. Then Eula's charming voice came in, "Lance, may I come in?"
"Please come in," Lance said without turning around.
When Eula entered, she saw a scene where Lance was facing away from her, looking at Deanna with a gentle and affectionate gaze she had never received from him. He was holding a cup of water and speaking softly, "Drink some more water. It can help with metabolism. Maybe then we can find out something."
"Alright," Deanna couldn't refuse and continued drinking water slowly.
Seeing the warm scene between them that no outsider could intrude upon, Eula felt a pang of heartache. She took a deep breath to suppress her emotions, then smiled and said, "Miss Jones, you're awake."
"Miss Eula, thank you for your help last night," Deanna said gratefully to Eula. After all, Eula had helped her last night, even if it was for Lance's sake.
Eula looked at the woman who was earnestly thanking her and raised her eyebrows slightly. She suddenly felt that this woman wasn't entirely useless; she had some self-awareness, which suited her plans perfectly. Self-awareness made a big difference compared to those who lacked it.
"Miss Jones, you're too kind. You are Lance's fiancee. If something happened to you, Lance would be heartbroken. I wouldn't want him to be sad..." Eula paused deliberately before continuing slowly, "After all, he is a very important partner to me. If his emotions were affected, our cooperation might also be impacted."
The strange feeling in Deanna's heart dissipated but she still felt uncomfortable. She couldn't tell if it was her imagination, but she felt there was an underlying meaning in Eula's words. However, looking closely at Eula's face revealed no unusual expressions.
Was she overthinking? Deanna frowned slightly in reflection. When someone likes another person, their eyes can't hide it. But whether Eula looked at her or Lance, her gaze was clear and straightforward.
Unable to figure it out, Deanna forced a smile and said, "Miss Eula, you're quite humorous."
"It's not that I'm humorous; it's just that I have no choice. As a woman competing among men for resources and supporting tens of thousands of people under me who rely on me for their livelihood, I have to be cautious everywhere," Eula said with a smile.
