Hearing Lance's words, Deanna frowned in thought. She realized that, just as Lance had said, ever since the incident at the hospital, things had been happening one after another, leaving her overwhelmed.
"So, there's a good chance this wasn't an accident but someone targeting me?" Deanna looked over suspiciously.
Lance met her gaze and said in a deep voice, "It's just a hypothesis. Think about whether you've offended anyone recently or if anyone has come to the lab seeking collaboration and was turned down."
Recently, Deanna's lab had become a hot topic domestically due to developing ten affordable and effective medications.
If it weren't for the Mercer Group backing the lab, many would have tried to take advantage of it. This was why Lance had made such a suggestion. After all, the business world was full of unscrupulous people.
Deanna thought carefully about what Lance had said and shook her head. "No, apart from the hospital discussing drug purchases, no one else has come to talk about collaboration. And even with the hospital, I didn't turn anyone down."
"That's strange," Lance said, frowning as he sensed something amiss.
Just as they were deep in thought, they arrived at the police station. Unexpectedly, as soon as they got out of the car, they were surrounded by reporters again.
"Miss Jones, we heard that your lab was vandalized by righteous netizens. How do you plan to handle this? Will you hold the netizens accountable?"
"Personally, I think the netizens' actions were extreme but driven by a desire for justice for the victims."
"The protest and vandalism at your lab have clearly sparked public outrage. How do you plan to calm the public's anger?"
These questions were sharp and seemingly malicious, almost framing the lab as guilty from the start.
Deanna and Lance were no fools and quickly noticed the traps in these questions. Lance narrowed his eyes dangerously and coldly stared at the reporters who had asked the questions. "Which news agency are you from?"
Surprisingly, his question did not intimidate the reporters; instead, they stared back at him even more defiantly.
"Mr. Mercer, are you threatening us?"
"We know how you capitalists operate, always trying to bankrupt people. If our news agency goes under tomorrow, it will undoubtedly be because of Mr. Mercer."
"So, Mr. Mercer, are you openly shielding your fiancée? As the CEO of Mercer Group, when have you become so lawless?"
As these reporters smeared Lance and the Mercer Group with every word, Deanna's face darkened instantly.
She glared angrily at the troublemaking reporters and scolded, "Stop spreading fear here. We are deeply saddened by the deaths caused by Genesis Labs' medication and are actively cooperating with police investigations. Our lab is also re-testing the drugs to see if there are any issues. So before jumping to conclusions, shouldn't we all wait quietly for the results instead of causing trouble and delaying the investigation?"
"Mrs. Mercer, it's okay for us to wait, but will there really be any results? Isn't it all decided by you rich people anyway?"
Someone shouted this out, immediately gaining approval from other reporters who began to criticize Deanna and Lance.
Their sharp words made Deanna and Lance's faces darken even more. At that moment, they were even more convinced that someone was orchestrating this from behind the scenes.
As a result, they chose to remain silent in front of the reporters.
Fortunately, Xavier arrived with bodyguards and police officers to disperse the reporters.
A few minutes later, Deanna and Lance finally entered the police station. Inside, they heard a commotion.
The rioters who had caused trouble at the lab were all detained in the hall.
"Let us out! We were fighting for justice. What's wrong with that?"
"Genesis Labs makes fake drugs to profit off people's hard-earned money. You police arrest us instead of those heartless people. Why?"
"Let us go! The law doesn't punish numerous offenders!"
Hearing these words made Deanna laugh in anger.
