Upon hearing Deanna's words, even though he could sense her concession, Old Hughes couldn't help but remark, "I'm just afraid that even if we collect slowly, we might not gather all these materials."
Old Hughes wasn't exaggerating; it was indeed possible that they wouldn't be able to collect everything. These herbs were genuinely precious, and every year during their maturation period, there were people waiting to purchase them.
Deanna knew this too, which is why she said what she did. She sighed and said sincerely, "As long as there are any available, please help me collect them. Even if we end up with none, I won't blame you."
"Alright then, since you've said so, I'll help you collect them. Later, I'll contact Old Wright and ask him to keep an eye out as well," Old Hughes replied, nodding seriously.
Seeing this, Deanna felt very grateful and thanked him repeatedly.
Later, she chatted with Old Hughes about some medical techniques before leaving the clinic.
After leaving, Deanna hurried to the research institute without stopping.
At the research institute, everything was running smoothly. Although busy, there was no chaos. The employees greeted Deanna politely as she entered.
"Ms. Jones."
"Good morning, Ms. Jones."
Seeing these respectful greetings, Deanna couldn't help but feel a sense of amazement. She never thought she would one day become the director. Of course, she owed it all to her master.
Thinking of this, Deanna smiled gently and told everyone to continue their work without being delayed by her arrival.
After entering her office and just as she was about to change into her lab coat to go to the laboratory, there was a knock on the door.
"Miss Jones, may I come in?"
"Please come in."
Though she said this, Deanna couldn't help but frown. According to the schedule, Lionel should be in the lab conducting research at this time.
Despite her thoughts, she composed herself and looked at the man who entered, asking, "Mr. Grant, what brings you here?"
"I heard you were back and wanted to ask about the herbs," Lionel explained briefly. Knowing it was inappropriate to appear at this time, he paused before continuing, "Shortly after our call this morning, I received a call from your master. He saw the email we sent and told me that if there was a problem with the theory, then the previous data might also be problematic. He suggested we redo the calculations before proceeding with the experiments."
Upon hearing this, Deanna's initial displeasure at Lionel for delaying the experiment dissipated. She hadn't expected this reason and felt guilty for her earlier thoughts.
"In that case, let's go to the lab now and redo the calculations so we can start the project as soon as possible."
"That's what I thought too," Lionel agreed with a nod.
The two then went to the laboratory and worked for an entire day. During this time, they had several disagreements due to differing theories. Fortunately, both were patient and tried to persuade each other calmly.
However, after a whole day of discussion, neither could convince the other. Despite his admiration for Deanna, Lionel had his own principles in research. Even though he noticed Deanna's growing displeasure, he stuck to his beliefs.
Seeing Deanna's increasingly serious expression, he finally took a step back. "Since we both insist on our theories, let's proceed with our respective calculations. The person whose results are closer to the correct values will guide the subsequent research."
"Agreed. There's an empty lab next door; I'll conduct my experiments there," Deanna said and began packing her things.
Lionel realized that Deanna was determined to prove herself and couldn't help but smile. He quickly called out to her, "It's almost dinner time. If you go to the lab now, you'll be busy until midnight. Let's have dinner first and then continue our experiments."
Deanna checked the time and saw it was indeed late, so she didn't refuse. To save time and get back to work quickly, they went to the institute's cafeteria.
During dinner, Lionel looked at the silent Deanna across from him and suddenly apologized for their earlier argument in the lab.
"My tone might have been harsh earlier. I hope you don't mind; I tend to be stubborn when it comes to experiments."
"There's no need to apologize, Mr. Grant. I understand, and I was a bit harsher too," Deanna replied.
Despite her words, Deanna felt a strange unease. Disagreements during experiments were normal and didn't usually warrant an apology...
