Julia listened to Deanna's words and couldn't help but grumble inwardly.
Of course, I know you can't help me. After all, Mr. Mercer's proposal hasn't even started yet.
Thinking this, Julia put on a surprised expression. "No way, Mr. Mercer hasn't proposed to you?"
"Well... he hasn't proposed, but that doesn't mean anything, right? Between him and me, these things don't matter."
Deanna instinctively defended Lance. She thought, with Lance being so straightforward, it was already hard enough for him to confess his feelings. Asking him to plan a romantic proposal would be too much.
Julia didn't know Deanna's inner thoughts. Her eyes flickered as she agreed, "You're right. You and Mr. Mercer already have a child and are about to get married. Whether he proposes or not is just a formality. But what about my task? If I don't come up with a plan by tomorrow, that awful supervisor will definitely scold me."
Hearing this, Deanna couldn't help but worry for her friend. But before she could think of a solution, Julia's voice came again.
"Deanna, why don't you help me think of a proposal plan?"
"I can help you think, but I've never experienced it myself."
Deanna frowned, unsure how to help her friend.
Julia said, "It doesn't matter if you haven't experienced it. Just imagine if Mr. Mercer were to propose to you, what kind of proposal would you like? I can use it as a reference. After all, you've been in love, so you must have some romantic ideas. My supervisor wants it to be as romantic as possible."
Saying this, she took out a pen and paper from her handbag and looked at Deanna expectantly.
Seeing this, Deanna couldn't refuse and started to think.
If Lance were to propose to her, what kind of proposal would she like?
"If it were up to me, I wouldn't like anything too complicated. Something simple with a bit of surprise would be best. It would be nice if family and friends could witness it."
By the end of her sentence, Deanna was smiling at her friend.
Julia, however, didn't know how to write it down. "Isn't that too simple? No diamonds or roses?"
"But isn't a diamond ring and roses the basic requirements for a proposal?" Deanna looked innocently at her.
Julia was momentarily speechless. "You're right, but still, your idea is too simple. This is your... proposal, no, my task. Even if you like a simple one, it can't be that simple."
Phew, that was close. I almost let it slip.
Julia mentally patted herself on the back.
Deanna didn't notice anything odd in Julia's tone and reconsidered her words. It did seem a bit too simple.
"How about renting a venue and creating a sea of flowers or lights? Or maybe proposing under fireworks? That way, it would be both picturesque and romantic."
"That sounds good. So do you prefer the sea of flowers, the sea of lights, or the fireworks?" Julia continued to ask.
Deanna was puzzled. "What does it matter to me? You can describe the atmosphere created by each scene."
This left Julia speechless again.
"Uh, what I mean is, which do you think women in love would prefer?"
"Is that so?"
For some reason, Deanna felt something was off.
Maybe sensing she was about to be suspected, Julia nodded vigorously and quickly covered up. "Never mind, you don't have to choose for me. After all, adults don't make choices; they want everything!"
Julia's words dispelled Deanna's doubts. She joked, "Wanting everything might be too greedy."
"Isn't greed a hallmark of adulthood? Besides, if it were you, would you like all three scenarios?"
Julia said this with a calculating glint in her eyes again.
Unfortunately, Deanna still didn't notice and replied innocently, "Of course I'd like them. Who doesn't dream of a fairytale proposal?"
Hearing this, Julia knew her task was complete and her smile grew even brighter.
After handing over the task to Mr. Mercer later tonight, she should finally get the figurine she's been longing for.
Deanna knew nothing of this.
She had dinner with her friend and strolled around the nearby pedestrian street before receiving a call from Lance.
"Are you coming home tonight?"
"Yes, I'll be back tonight."
Deanna replied with a smile and then mentioned a time for Lance to pick her up before hanging up the phone.
Julia watched her put down the phone and curiously asked, "You said you're going back tonight. Were you planning to stay with me all night?"
"I thought you had something going on and was planning to stay with you. But since we solved the problem just now, I won't stay tonight. I'll keep you company next time."
Deanna said this with some embarrassment, feeling like she was prioritizing her relationship over friendship.
Julia didn't expect Deanna to say this and quickly waved her hand. "It's fine; you don't have to stay with me. Go back and be with Mr. Mercer."
She was joking; if she kept Deanna here, Mr. Mercer might not help her get that figurine she had been longing for.
