In the vast office, the air was filled with a sense of foreboding.
Especially around Lance, the atmosphere was particularly menacing.
"It seems the Jones family didn't heed my warning. Teach them a lesson they won't forget. Make them understand who they can and cannot mess with!"
"Yes, sir!"
Xavier nodded and left to make arrangements. He couldn't help but feel exasperated by the Jones family's reckless behavior.
Meanwhile, Garrett had just left Vortex Technology when he received a call from Mia. Learning that Mia had been taken to the police station, he rushed over immediately.
"What happened? How did you get arrested?"
As soon as he entered the police station, Garrett saw Mia handcuffed to a chair and angrily walked over to question her.
Mia looked at the furious man in front of her, feeling guilty and unsure of how to explain.
At that moment, a police officer approached and scrutinized Garrett before asking, "Who are you to her?"
"I'm her husband. What did she do to get arrested?"
Garrett introduced himself briefly and then anxiously looked at the officer.
The officer replied directly, "Your wife went to a kindergarten pretending to be another child's parent. The staff recognized her and suspected she was a kidnapper, so they called us. You're just in time. She wouldn't say anything during questioning. Now you explain."
With that, he took out a pen and paper to start recording Garrett's information.
After this round of questioning, Garrett finally understood why Mia had been arrested. It took a lot of effort to explain that it was a misunderstanding and that they were not kidnappers before they were allowed to leave the police station.
Once outside, Garrett glared at Mia, trembling with anger as he pointed at her and scolded, "Are you out of your mind? Why would you provoke those two kids? Do you think our Jones family isn't in enough trouble already? Do you want to speed up our bankruptcy?"
"I didn't mean to provoke those two kids. I just wanted to use them to plead with Deanna to let Emily go."
Mia naturally wouldn't admit she had thought about kidnapping those brats to threaten Deanna. She tried to find an excuse to defend herself.
Unfortunately, Garrett didn't believe her at all and even sneered, "Do you think anyone would believe that? Would Deanna believe it? Would Lance believe it?"
Mia was left speechless.
At that moment, Garrett's phone rang. It was his assistant calling. He answered, "What's wrong?"
"Mr. Jones, something terrible happened. A group of people from the business administration just came and took all our financial records."
The assistant spoke anxiously over the phone.
Garrett's face changed drastically as he scolded, "Why are you only telling me this now?"
"It's not that I didn't want to inform you. All our staff were being controlled."
The assistant explained helplessly over the phone.
Garrett couldn't listen anymore and coldly said, "I'm heading back right now. Find out who those people were from the business administration."
With that, he hung up the phone with a grim face, feeling that this incident had come too suddenly. He hadn't even heard any news about someone wanting to audit their records.
Seeing his troubled expression, Mia asked worriedly, "Did something happen?"
Hearing this, Garrett instinctively looked at her, and a flash of insight hit him. He suddenly understood the connection.
"You and your daughter are going to be the death of me!"
Garrett glared at Mia furiously.
By now, he had figured out that the sudden visit from the business administration was likely related to Mia's attempt to contact those two kids.
Mia also realized what Garrett meant and turned pale.
But Garrett couldn't worry about her anymore. He hurriedly headed back to the company after leaving a stern warning.
"Go home and reflect on your actions. Don't leave the house for a while!"
Mia watched him leave with deep regret in her heart. She didn't dare disobey Garrett and immediately took a cab back to the Jones family residence.
As soon as she left the police station, both Deanna and Lance received the news.
Deanna decided to keep this matter in mind for now and planned to discuss it with Lance later that evening. She wanted to do something to stop the Jones family from constantly causing trouble for her.
Especially with the upcoming public banquet for their two children, she didn't want any incidents affecting the event.
That evening, Deanna brought up the matter with Lance when she got home.
Lance listened and then sneered, "Don't worry. The Jones family won't be bothering us anytime soon."
"Did you do something?" Deanna asked curiously.
Lance didn't hide anything and explained his arrangements from earlier in the day. "I had Xavier lead people from the business administration to audit Jones Group's accounts. Given Garrett's shady dealings, their books are probably a mess. Right now, he'll be too busy trying to save his company to worry about anything else."
Hearing this, Deanna looked at Lance with admiration and didn't hold back her praise.
"You're amazing! I just thought of this problem, and you've already taken action."
"It's nothing. After you've been in the business world long enough, you'll be able to do what I do."
