The lawyer listened to Raphael and felt that Emily's chances of being released were slim. After all, she had offended the Mercer Group. However, he didn't dare to say this out loud. After a few moments of contemplation, he cautiously said, "I have a rough idea now, but I need to meet Mrs. Howard and understand the specifics before I can determine if it's feasible."
Upon hearing this, Mr. and Mrs. Jones and Raphael took him to the visitation room. Inside, Emily had already been brought in by the police. Seeing her parents, Raphael, and the top lawyer from the Howard family company, the dullness in her eyes suddenly brightened.
"Mom, Dad, Raphael, you're here. Please get me out of here. I don't want to be in jail."
"If you don't want to be in jail, tell us exactly what you did."
Raphael spoke before Mr. and Mrs. Jones could respond. He added, "Don't think about hiding anything. If you do, we might not be able to get you out."
Upon hearing this, the hope in Emily's eyes faded instantly. Eventually, she admitted what she had done.
"I did hire someone to scare Deanna, but I didn't ask them to hurt her. I just had them scratch her car and do some frightening things."
"What frightening things specifically?" the lawyer pressed.
Raphael and Mr. and Mrs. Jones also wanted to know what she had done. Under their scrutiny, Emily lowered her eyes guiltily and whispered, "I had someone send a dead cat to Deanna. Once it was whole, and another time it was in pieces."
Everyone present gasped at her words.
"Emily, are you crazy?" Raphael couldn't hold back his anger and scolded her with a cold face.
Mr. and Mrs. Jones' faces, already grim, turned even darker. Especially Mia, who was about to reprimand Raphael for scolding her daughter but was stopped by Garrett.
Garrett understood Raphael's feelings at that moment. Although Emily's actions hadn't physically harmed anyone, they were malicious in nature. If word got out, it would tarnish the Howard family's reputation even further. No wonder Raphael was so furious.
Seeing Raphael's anger and perhaps emboldened by her parents' presence, Emily's suppressed rage and grievances erupted.
"I am crazy! For you, I gave up a thriving career to marry into your family, but how did you repay me? You want to divorce me! Why should I suffer while that bitch Deanna lives happily?"
Mr. and Mrs. Jones and Raphael were silent, unsure of what to say to Emily's hysterics. Did she ever consider the consequences of her actions against Deanna?
Garrett was furious and glared at Mia. "Look at the daughter you raised, with such extreme thoughts! No wonder Raphael wants to divorce her."
Mia didn't dare to retort.
Raphael saw this as an opportunity to show himself in a good light in front of Garrett. "I never truly wanted to divorce Emily. I just used it as a reason to make her more restrained in her actions. I didn't expect her to take it out on Deanna and do such things... Honestly, I'm very disappointed."
He looked at Emily as he said the last sentence.
Emily was stunned, staring at Raphael in disbelief.
"You never wanted to divorce me?"
"Yes, I never intended to divorce you. I just wanted you to focus on me and not on other things," Raphael nodded, making it seem like everything he did was for her.
Emily believed him and regretted it deeply now. "I didn't know that. I thought you were determined to divorce me. Why didn't you tell me? What should I do now? Deanna will never forgive me."
"Now you're panicking? What were you thinking before?" Garrett scolded Emily angrily.
Emily looked at Raphael with teary eyes and pleaded pitifully, "I don't want to go to jail."
"Don't worry, I'll find a way to get you out," Raphael promised with a look of deep affection but was determined not to let Emily go to jail. If word got out that a member of the Howard family was imprisoned, their stock would surely be affected.
He turned to the lawyer who had been silent and asked, "Now that you know everything, what should we do?"
The lawyer spoke professionally but couldn't help but think that Emily was indeed too much trouble. "Whether Mrs. Howard's situation is serious or not depends on whether the victim is willing to let her go."
