"I previously mentioned divorce to Emily, but I didn't really mean it. I just wanted to scare her into behaving better," Raphael explained the recent drama.
Mrs. Howard was taken aback by this reason and didn't know what to say. She awkwardly changed the topic, asking, "So what do we do now? Inform the Jones family?"
"No need to rush informing the Jones family. Let the company lawyer find out exactly what Emily did," Aiden said seriously.
Raphael nodded and replied coldly, "I'll contact the legal department now."
Unbeknownst to them, while they didn't want the Jones family to find out so soon, Emily had already requested to contact her family after being arrested by the police.
She didn't know if the Howard family would help her, so she had no choice but to turn to her own family for assistance.
Mia was shocked when she heard that Emily had been arrested.
"How did you get arrested? What happened? Where is Raphael? Isn't anyone from the Howard family helping you?" she asked several questions in quick succession. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, Emily couldn't answer and hurriedly said before hanging up, "Mom, don't ask so many questions now. Bring Dad and a lawyer to bail me out at the police station. I'll explain everything then."
Mia had no choice but to contact Garrett after the call was disconnected.
Half an hour later, they rushed to the police station.
As soon as they entered, Mia approached the reception desk anxiously and asked, "Hello, we are Emily's family. We want to know what crime she committed and why she was arrested."
The staff at the counter looked them up and down before replying formally, "Emily is suspected of hiring someone to threaten another person with bodily harm. The evidence is conclusive. You can get more details in the third office on the left."
After saying this, the staff member returned to their work, ignoring the two.
Mia and Garrett exchanged glances and quickly walked in the direction indicated.
Soon, they found the officer in charge of Emily's case.
After introducing themselves, the officer got straight to the point. "Emily is suspected of hiring someone to threaten another person with bodily harm, causing financial losses in the millions. The victim insists on pressing charges, so Emily is facing a sentence of three months to one year in detention."
"How could this happen?" Mia looked at the officer in disbelief and lied through her teeth, "Officer, you must be mistaken. Emily wouldn't even hurt a fish, let alone hire someone to threaten others. This must be a misunderstanding!"
"Are you questioning our police work?" The officer's face turned cold immediately.
Seeing this, Garrett quickly warned Mia with a look and then smiled apologetically at the officer. "Officer, you misunderstood. We didn't mean that. It's just that hearing our daughter hired someone to threaten others is too shocking and feels unreal."
Hearing this, the officer's expression softened.
"If you have no further questions, please sign this case document."
"Officer, can you wait a moment? We still don't know a lot of information," Garrett said politely. "Could you please tell us who the victim is and if there's a chance for reconciliation?"
The officer gave him a strange look before saying, "The victim is someone you're familiar with-Miss Deanna Jones."
As expected!
At that moment, Mr. and Mrs. Jones had the same thought.
They exchanged glances, and Garrett made up his mind. He asked the officer, "Officer, you know about Emily's relationship with my other daughter from your investigation. So can we not sign this document and let them reconcile privately?"
"Sorry, but Miss Deanna has already insisted on pressing charges before you brought this up. So please sign this document and don't delay our work."
The officer pushed the document towards them again.
Garrett's face turned grim, but he had no choice but to sign it.
Mia's face was equally grim.
She reluctantly said, "We have visitation rights, don't we? I demand to see her."
"That's possible. Register for visitation outside, and someone will take you to see Emily," the officer said after seeing Garrett finish signing and then asked them to leave.
As they left the office, Mia's face fell immediately. She anxiously asked, "Garrett, what do we do now? If Emily goes to jail, the Howard family will surely make Raphael divorce her."
"Now you're scared? I told you to keep an eye on Emily more often, but you wouldn't listen. Now you're asking me what to do? How should I know?" Garrett snapped back angrily, feeling that nothing was going right for him lately.
