Lance noticed the woman deliberately changing the subject and looked at her with a doting expression. "I just saw something funny, related to Garrett."
"Garrett?" Deanna was a bit surprised and couldn't help but ask again, "What did he do this time?"
Hearing this, Lance didn't hide what he had arranged. He briefly explained the situation.
Finally, he mentioned Garrett's misfortune that evening. "Probably because he lost two important clients in a row, Garrett got so angry that he took it out on a wall, ended up breaking his own bones, and landed in the hospital."
Deanna couldn't help but laugh out loud. "I remember this man was already hospitalized yesterday for being beaten up by someone?"
"That's right," Lance nodded, his eyes gleaming with schadenfreude.
Deanna saw this and felt that Garrett deserved it. She could finally have some peace for a few days.
The next two days were indeed peaceful.
During the day, Deanna went to the company to oversee things.
In the evening, she returned to spend time with her child and help Lance with his treatment. Although busy, her days were fulfilling and happy.
In contrast to Deanna's good days, Garrett's were much harder.
Previously, because of the news of Deanna and Lance's engagement, the investors Garrett had managed to attract all withdrew from his company.
On top of that, with his leg broken, many things were beyond his capability.
To prevent the company's situation from worsening, he had no choice but to humble himself before Deanna.
But since Deanna had blocked him, he had to bite the bullet and contact Lance.
Lance received the call while driving Deanna to the company.
"What's up?"
"Mr. Mercer, I promise I won't trouble Deanna anymore. Could you please be magnanimous and spare Jones Group?"
On the phone, Garrett pleaded bitterly with Lance.
Lance snorted coldly. "This is my last warning for you. If you dare harass my fiancée again, your Jones family will end up like the Cody family."
With that, he hung up the phone.
Deanna, having overheard the conversation, guessed that the caller was Garrett.
"Was he begging for mercy?"
He referred to Garrett.
Lance understood and nodded while putting away his phone. "He hopes I'll show mercy and promises not to bother you again."
Hearing this, Deanna curled her lips in mockery. "Do you believe him?"
"It doesn't matter if I believe him or not. If he dares trouble you again, I'll make him leave Cloudmere like the Cody family."
Lance said this as he pulled her into his arms and smiled. "Just as well, I'll take back Jones Group for you."
Deanna felt warm inside but shook her head in refusal. "I only want what's mine. I don't care for anything from the Jones family."
"Alright then, we'll take back what's yours and leave the rest."
Lance coaxed Deanna with deep affection in his voice.
On the other end, Garrett put down his phone with a grim expression.
Even though his relationship with Deanna was strained, he was still her father. Lance's threat was simply...
For a moment, he couldn't find words to describe it and felt increasingly stifled.
Mia noticed his dark expression and felt a pang of unease.
"Garrett, what did Lance say? Will he spare Jones Group?"
"Lance said as long as we don't bother Deanna again, this matter will be over. But if there's a next time, we'll end up like the Cody family."
Garrett repeated Lance's words.
Mia's beautiful face twisted in anger upon hearing this.
Why did that bitch Deanna get Lance's favor and protection, living happily while her own daughter faced career failure and a troubled marriage?
The more she thought about it, the more unwilling she felt. Mia gritted her teeth in frustration.
Seeing her jealous expression, Garrett frowned and warned her. "You better not go behind my back to trouble Deanna. If the company suffers because of you, I won't let you off!"
"Don't worry, I won't do anything to Deanna."
She said this, but Mia's heart was still unsettled.
After making sure Garrett was resting, she left the bedroom and called her daughter.
If she couldn't act herself, she'd have her daughter do it. As long as they were careful and covered their tracks, she didn't believe Lance could trace it back to them.
The call connected quickly.
"Why are you calling me now? Is something wrong?"
Emily asked on the phone, her voice sounding off as if she'd been crying.
Mia immediately picked up on it and asked with concern, "Have you been crying? Did someone from the Howard family bully you?"
Hearing this, Emily began to cry and complain. "Recently, our family's company has been having problems. I asked Raphael for help, but not only did he refuse, he even scolded me."
"Raphael is getting more outrageous. He promised me at your wedding that he'd take good care of you!"
