Seeing Deanna getting angrier, Lance quickly admitted his mistake, "I know I was wrong. I will take better care of my health from now on."
"I've heard you say that several times, but every time you make the same mistake when it matters."
Clearly, Deanna had become numb to Lance's apologies.
Lance, seeing her reaction, felt embarrassed and promised again, "This will be the last time."
Deanna said nothing, just stared at him.
Feeling even more awkward, Lance tentatively suggested, "How about I write a guarantee?"
For some reason, the image of Lance like a child writing a guarantee in the study flashed through Deanna's mind, and she couldn't help but laugh.
"You're laughing. It means you're not angry anymore."
Seeing Deanna's smile, Lance breathed a sigh of relief.
Deanna snorted lightly, "Don't think that just because I laughed, you can skip the guarantee. I want to see it in an hour."
With that, she turned and sat down nearby, taking out her phone to call her company.
She knew she wouldn't be able to go to the office today, so she asked someone to bring the documents that needed handling to her home.
Lance watched Deanna make her call without interrupting. His gaze shifted to Xavier, who had just come downstairs and was trying to hold back his laughter.
Clearly, Xavier had overheard their conversation.
"Is it funny?" Lance glared at him.
Meeting Mr. Mercer's dark gaze, Xavier felt a chill down his spine and quickly shook his head, "Not at all. I'll go get you a pen and paper."
With that, he turned and went back upstairs.
Lance snorted but didn't stop him.
Meanwhile, Deanna finished her call.
She looked at Lance sitting beside her and remembered the collaboration she hadn't mentioned last night. She brought it up proactively.
"By the way, Lance, yesterday our company's technical director found an old research project among our products. According to the analysis, if this project is successfully developed, it could be very profitable. However, Vortex Technology doesn't have enough funds. Mr. Nelson suggested that our two companies could collaborate. Are you interested?"
Deanna paused before continuing, "Don't rush to answer. I'll get the documents for you to review first."
Hearing this, Lance understood that Deanna didn't want him to agree to the collaboration hastily because of their relationship. He felt even more tender towards her.
However, he had already made up his mind last night after Xavier mentioned it.
Deanna didn't know what Lance was thinking.
After speaking, she went upstairs to get the documents.
When she came back down, she saw Lance sitting in the dining room, writing something.
Xavier was nowhere to be seen.
Deanna didn't mind and walked over to check. She found that Lance was indeed writing a guarantee and didn't disturb him.
A few minutes later, Lance finished writing and placed the notebook in front of Deanna with a smile, "Check it."
"Of course I'll check it." Deanna raised an eyebrow and picked up the notebook to read.
The handwriting was neat and pleasing to the eye.
The content was also sincere.
"How is it? Satisfied?"
Seeing Deanna silent, Lance walked over and asked with a smile.
Deanna glanced at him and deliberately said, "It's fine. After all, your body belongs to you. If you don't take care of it, you won't be able to undergo the next treatment. You know the consequences better than I do."
With that, she handed over the documents she had brought down and continued, "These are the documents about that product. Take a good look. If it benefits Mercer Group, our two companies can collaborate. The profit split will be seventy-thirty in your favor."
The split was because Mercer Group would invest more in the collaboration than Vortex Technology.
After all, although Vortex Technology was stable now, it lacked both money and talents.
Seeing Deanna's businesslike demeanor, Lance didn't know whether to feel proud or disappointed in his teaching.
"We'll discuss the profit split after I review the documents."
With that, Lance picked up the documents and started reading.
Deanna didn't disturb him.
It didn't take long for Lance to finish reading. He smiled and said, "This research project is indeed good. If developed successfully, it could become a new system or even be used as a standalone chip. It seems Vortex Technology's former tech staff weren't incompetent."
"Some of them were indeed talented, but unfortunately couldn't stay with the company."
Deanna felt a bit regretful but didn't dwell on it.
Those who left had their reasons; those who stayed had their challenges.
After all, if they weren't loyal to her, who knew what might happen?
Thinking about this, Deanna looked at Lance and asked, "You've read the documents. What do you think about the collaboration?"
