That evening, Old Hughes learned of the hospital where Deanna was staying and went to visit her.
Upon entering the hospital room, he saw Deanna sitting on the bed, her forehead and face wrapped in bandages, feeling both guilty and heartbroken.
"How did you get hurt so badly?"
"Old Hughes, what brings you here?"
Deanna was quite surprised to see him.
Lance also looked puzzled as he glanced over.
Standing beside the bed, Old Hughes did not hide anything and explained, "This afternoon, Ernest and his wife came to the pharmacy to ask me to save their daughter. Only then did I learn that Leticia had troubled you again."
"They really know whom to turn to!"
Lance snorted coldly, his gaze somewhat unfriendly towards Old Hughes.
Realizing the oppressive look in his eyes, Old Hughes quickly waved his hands, "Don't get me wrong, I'm not here to mediate. I just came to see how Anna is doing."
"Even if you were a mediator, it wouldn't matter. I will not let Leticia off this time!"
Lance made his stance clear.
Old Hughes gave a wry smile, "I am aware of that much. To think, all these troubles Anna faced are partly my fault. If I hadn't asked her to treat Old Walsh before, none of this would have happened."
He finished speaking with a sigh of genuine regret.
Deanna could see his self-reproach and quickly consoled him, "Old Hughes, don't be so hard on yourself. You were trying to improve my medical skills. Besides, I was compensated for the treatment. None of us expected Leticia to go this far."
"Yes, Old Walsh's good reputation is now ruined by Leticia."
Old Hughes lamented.
Hearing this, Deanna suddenly thought of something and looked at Old Hughes with concern, hesitating to speak.
Noticing her expression, Old Hughes asked curiously, "Is there something you want to say, girl?"
"Will these issues between me and the Walsh family affect your relationship with Old Walsh?"
Deanna voiced her worries.
Although Old Hughes never spoke highly of Old Walsh in her presence, she could tell from his words that he cherished his old friend.
Old Hughes was momentarily stunned, not expecting Deanna to say such a thing. A warm feeling crossed his heart.
He burst into laughter and reassured her, "Don't worry. My friendship with Old Walsh has lasted for decades. It won't end over something like this. Besides, he knows very well what his granddaughter is like; he can't blame me!"
"That's good then."
Deanna smiled faintly.
Then Old Hughes looked at the injuries on her face and said with affection, "I remember I have an ancient palace recipe for scar removal. I'll prepare it tomorrow and have someone deliver it to you, hoping to prevent any scars."
"Thank you very much."
Deanna did not refuse.
Old Hughes waved his hand dismissively, "It's nothing. Take care and heal well."
Meanwhile, the Walsh family was also preparing to leave Cloudmere.
As they were getting into the car, Mrs. Walsh could not leave without seeing Leticia and pleaded with Old Walsh.
"Dad, can I go see Leticia one more time?"
She looked at Old Walsh with teary eyes.
Old Walsh frowned deeply, his face showing undisguised annoyance, "What are you planning now?"
"I won't do anything. I just want to tell Leticia to take care of herself inside. With her temperament, she will definitely be bullied in prison," Mrs. Walsh said honestly.
Old Walsh stared at her for a few seconds before finally agreeing, "Ernest, go with your wife to the police station. If I find out you've done anything behind my back again, don't bother returning to the Walsh family. I will publicly disown you."
Hearing this, Mr. and Mrs. Walsh were shocked.
Old Walsh ignored their reaction and signaled Hassan to drive away.
Watching the car disappear into the distance, Mrs. Walsh gripped Ernest's hand tightly and said through clenched teeth, "Dad is so heartless!"
"We asked for it," Ernest replied insightfully.
He pulled away from Mrs. Walsh's grip and said, "Let's go. After seeing Leticia, we need to catch up with father quickly."
Mrs. Walsh had no choice but to follow him.
Soon after, they arrived at the police station.
Seeing her parents, Leticia immediately asked anxiously, "Mom, Dad, when can I get out? I don't want to stay here anymore. It's unbearable here; the food is terrible, and so is the accommodation."
Hearing this, Mrs. Walsh's heart ached uncontrollably as tears fell continuously; she couldn't bring herself to tell the truth.
At that moment, Leticia also sensed something was amiss.
"Mom, why aren't you speaking? Didn't you say you would find a way to get me out? When can I really get out?"
She clutched the bars tightly, her eyes fixed on Mrs. Walsh with an aggressive tone.
Mrs. Walsh felt incredibly guilty.
Ernest looked at Leticia's demeanor with deep disapproval and said coldly, "Stop pressuring your mother. She can't save you. From now on, behave yourself in prison, reform yourself and strive for a reduced sentence."
