Mrs. Walsh, upon hearing these words, glanced sideways, originally not intending to speak.
However, considering her thoughts and fearing she might need this person's help, she said, "Last time Mr. Mercer and Dr. Deanna let Leticia off the hook for Old Hughes' sake. This time, I think if Old Hughes steps in, Leticia might be saved."
Ernest remained silent for a moment, not surprised by his wife's words.
On the contrary, he had been harboring the same thought.
Even though he was utterly disappointed in his daughter, she was still his only child.
"Who do you plan to ask Old Hughes?"
"You go," Mrs. Walsh said without hesitation.
Ernest laughed sarcastically, "You think I have that kind of influence?"
Mrs. Walsh fell silent, not knowing what to say.
Ernest continued, "Now, I fear even our father might not have any standing with Old Hughes."
At this, Mrs. Walsh's eyes hardened, as if she had made up her mind.
"If Old Hughes disagrees, we'll kneel before him until he agrees!"
"Are you serious?" Ernest was astonished.
Mrs. Walsh looked at him with a grave expression, "Do I look like I'm joking? Turn the car around, go to Hughes Pharmacy."
The last two sentences were directed at the driver.
The driver nodded and took them to Hughes Pharmacy.
They were lucky; Old Hughes was there that day.
Although he disliked the couple, he agreed to meet them for Old Walsh's sake.
Once seated, he got straight to the point, "What brings you here today?"
"Uncle Hughes, we have a favor to ask of you. Could you please agree to it?"
Mrs. Walsh's eyes were slightly red as she pleaded with Old Hughes.
Old Hughes was startled by her emotion, "Speak properly, what happened?"
However, Mrs. Walsh just cried and couldn't speak.
Old Hughes frowned, growing impatient.
Seeing this, Ernest knew his wife wanted him to speak up.
He reluctantly began, glossing over the details, "Our daughter Leticia unintentionally offended someone she shouldn't have. It wasn't intentional. We hope you can help us smooth things over."
"Leticia was supposed to be abroad, wasn't she?"
Old Hughes immediately pointed out the inconsistency.
Ernest looked embarrassed, "Her mother and I couldn't bear to part with her and begged her to stay."
Hearing this, Old Hughes guessed a few things and his displeasure and impatience became more apparent.
His gaze darkened as he asked, "You mentioned Leticia offended someone she shouldn't have. It wouldn't happen to involve Lance and Anna, would it?"
"…Yes, it's them," Ernest admitted openly.
Old Hughes's face darkened upon hearing this.
"You have the nerve to ask me for help? Who do you think you are? Your father?" he said sarcastically.
That look almost made Ernest lose face completely.
Old Hughes didn't care and continued mockingly, "I really don't know how you have the audacity to come to me. Even your father has no standing here now!"
Ernest was left utterly humiliated.
Old Hughes ran out of patience and dismissed them, "Alright, you can go now."
"No, please Uncle Hughes, save our Leticia. You're the only one who can save her now!"
Upon hearing Old Hughes dismissing them, Mrs. Walsh couldn't hold back any longer and began to plead bitterly.
She even tried to grab Old Hughes but he dodged her.
Old Hughes laughed in anger at her words, "From what you're saying, do you think because Lance and Anna spared your daughter last time for my sake, they would do it again this time?"
"Let's not even discuss whether I have that much influence. What right do you have to ask this of me?"
Faced with such questioning, Mrs. Walsh was scolded into silence and stood crying silently.
This only made Old Hughes look down on her more and grow even more impatient.
"Ava, Ava, come and show these people out!"
Old Hughes shouted towards the reception room door.
Soon after, Ava ran in from outside.
She was stunned to see Mrs. Walsh crying in the reception room but didn't forget her duties and gestured for them to leave.
Seeing this, Old Hughes ignored Mr. and Mrs. Walsh and left directly.
"Uncle Hughes, please don't go. Save my daughter."
Mrs. Walsh saw Old Hughes leaving and couldn't keep silent any longer; she stepped forward trying to stop him.
But as she moved, Ava blocked her way, "I'm sorry ma'am, you can't go there."
"Get out of my way!"
Mrs. Walsh tried to push Ava aside but at the critical moment was held back by Ernest.
"Don't make a scene; come back with me."
"I won't leave without asking Uncle Hughes; I won't go. I'll kneel until Uncle Hughes agrees!"
With that said, Mrs. Walsh actually knelt down on the floor of the reception room!
Ernest looked at her in astonishment, "Are you serious?"
