The staff member, unable to contain his curiosity after hearing Xavier's words, inquired, "Mr. Nelson, the person who went in with Mr. Mercer just now, is she Mr. Mercer's girlfriend?"
As he spoke, the employees who hadn't left slowed their steps and perked up their ears to eavesdrop.
Xavier, noticing the curious glances around him, didn't hide the truth and chuckled, "You are mistaken, she is not Mr. Mercer's girlfriend; she is the missus. In the future, if you see the missus coming, let her through without delay, understand?"
"Understood," the front desk staff nodded.
Seeing this, Xavier waved her off to prepare some snacks.
Meanwhile, Deanna followed Lance into his office.
Upon entering, she looked around at the office decor and couldn't help but smile lightly, "I've just realized that wherever your territory is, the decor seems to be the same."
"I'm not particular about these things; as long as it's comfortable. If you don't like it, I can have Xavier find a designer to change it later," Lance replied as he led her to sit on the sofa.
Deanna quickly waved her hand in dismissal, "I was just teasing, don't take it seriously."
Then she urged Lance to get back to work.
Lance sat next to her, playing with her hand and smiling gently, "No rush, Xavier hasn't arrived yet."
No sooner had he spoken than Xavier knocked and entered.
"Mr. Mercer, missus," he greeted respectfully before approaching Lance to report the day's schedule. "You have four meetings this morning. The nearest one is a high-level meeting in ten minutes, at 10:30 there's a board meeting to summarize the year and plan for the next... In the evening, there is a business cocktail party. I will have someone bring over the evening gowns later for you and the missus to choose from."
Listening to Xavier's several minutes of scheduling, Deanna was astounded by the workload.
She wondered how Lance usually managed to find time for her and their children.
Unaware of Deanna's thoughts, Lance nodded after hearing Xavier's report, "Go prepare the meeting materials; I'll be there shortly."
"Yes," Xavier nodded and left.
Soon, only Lance and Deanna were left in the office.
He held her hand and said, "I'll be in a meeting shortly; wait for me here in the office. Someone will bring snacks and drinks later. If you get bored, you can also go out; I'll instruct the secretarial staff to accompany you."
"Alright, go ahead with your work; don't worry about me," Deanna nodded obediently.
A few minutes later, Lance went off to his meeting.
Deanna was left alone in the office.
She took out her phone and settled into the sofa to browse videos.
After some time, there was a knock at the door.
Surprised, Deanna looked up and said, "Come in."
The next second, a girl in a professional suit entered, struggling with a large bag of snacks and drinks.
Deanna quickly went over to help.
"Thank you, missus," the girl gratefully looked at Deanna.
Deanna smiled gently, "No trouble at all; you've had quite the task."
Hearing this, the girl felt even better about the missus's kind nature.
She pointed to the snacks on the coffee table enthusiastically, "Mr. Mercer instructed Mr. Nelson to buy these for you. There's also a pillow and an iPad outside; I'll bring them in."
Saying this, she dashed out and quickly returned with a pillow and an iPad in her hands.
She handed them to Deanna and continued, "Mr. Mercer said if the missus gets bored, you can binge-watch shows. If you'd like to go out, just call me to accompany you."
"Okay, if I decide to go out, I'll call you," Deanna nodded in response.
The girl scratched her head with a smile and then tactfully suggested leaving to get back to work. "If the missus needs anything, just call the secretarial office directly."
"Go ahead," Deanna nodded and watched as the girl left.
Soon, Deanna was alone again in the office. However, she didn't feel bored at all.
In fact, looking at the snacks on the coffee table and holding the pillow and iPad in her arms made her feel as sweet as if she had drunk honey water.
Thus, she sat on the sofa with the pillow, snacking and watching a popular TV show as the morning passed unknowingly.
Around noon, Lance finally returned after being away all morning.
Seeing Deanna lying on the sofa softened his stern expression immediately.
Deanna also heard some noise and turned her head to see him standing not far away with a sweet smile on his face. "You're back."
Lance nodded and sat beside her, asking with concern, "Bored?"
"Not really; watching TV shows and eating snacks kept me quite entertained. Though I might not eat much lunch," Deanna replied as she patted her slightly full stomach.
