In the spacious living room, Jeffery and Kelly were seething with anger.
"Lance, how dare he?" Kelly gritted her teeth, her eyes filled with hatred.
Jeffery was equally furious and shouted, "Call the police! I want the Mercer family to pay for this!"
Bella supported this decision. She had already lost her reputation; Lance shouldn't get away unscathed either.
That day, Jeffery reported to the police, accusing Lance of orchestrating the kidnapping of his daughter and instructing others to harm her.
At the same time, he gave an interview to journalists, exposing Lance's actions.
The news caused an uproar among the wealthy circles of Cloudmere.
Xavier saw the news and immediately reported it to Lance.
"Mr. Mercer, the Cody family called the police and publicly accused you of ordering Bella's kidnapping and harm."
"They really dare to say that." Lance sneered coldly and instructed, "Go, have Attorney Justin draft a legal letter and send it to the Cody family!"
Xavier nodded and turned to leave. As he opened the office door, he saw his secretary bringing in two police officers.
His eyes flickered as he turned back to Lance. "Mr. Mercer, the police are here. It should be about the Cody family's matter."
Just as he finished speaking, the secretary brought the two officers to the office door.
"Mr. Nelson, these officers are here to see Mr. Mercer."
"I understand. You may go now." Xavier dismissed the secretary and led the officers into the office.
Lance looked at the three men entering, a dark glint in his eyes. He calmly asked, "What can I do for you?"
"Mr. Mercer, we received a report from Mr. Cody of Cody Group accusing you of orchestrating his daughter's kidnapping and instructing others to harm her," one of the senior officers stated bluntly.
Lance nodded. "I saw that online just now. I have instructed my assistant to pursue a defamation case against Cody Group. You can speak with my assistant; he knows everything."
He pointed to Xavier beside him.
Xavier stepped forward and greeted them. "Gentlemen, you can ask me anything. I am responsible for Mr. Mercer's schedule."
The two officers exchanged glances and proceeded with routine questions about any grievances between Lance and Bella.
"If there's any grievance, it's not between Mr. Mercer and Miss Cody but rather Miss Cody's inability to accept Mr. Mercer's happiness. It's well known that Miss Cody has always wanted to marry Mr. Mercer, but Mr. Mercer has someone else in his heart," Xavier answered flawlessly.
Later, the police left.
Meanwhile, Mercer Group's legal letter was also published online. The Cody family received a copy as well.
"Lance, how dare he?" Jeffery slammed his hand on the table in anger.
He never expected Lance to counterattack so boldly.
Bella and Kelly's faces were equally grim.
Especially Bella, who clenched her fists tightly, her eyes filled with hatred and unwillingness.
Would she never be able to get justice for her humiliation?
At that moment, the butler walked in with two police officers-the same ones who had visited Mercer Group earlier.
Seeing them, Jeffery quickly invited them to sit and asked about the case's progress.
"What have you found out?"
"Mr. Cody, we followed up on Miss Cody's information but couldn't locate the individuals she mentioned. Also, Mr. Mercer's assistant was not at the club last night; we checked surveillance footage. Apart from a few drunk men, there was no sign of Mr. Nelson. Moreover, Mr. Nelson provided an alibi showing he was elsewhere at that time," explained one of the leading officers.
As soon as he finished speaking, Bella's sharp voice rang out in the living room. "Impossible! I saw Xavier at the club with my own eyes!"
"Miss Cody, are you questioning our investigation results?" The officer looked at her sternly.
Sensing trouble, Jeffery quickly warned his daughter with a glance and changed the subject by asking about the drunk men's whereabouts.
"We haven't found them yet; they disappeared after leaving the hotel without any trace. We will continue investigating but given incomplete information, finding them might be difficult. Be prepared for that," said one officer before they both took their leave.
Jeffery had no choice but to let the butler see them out.
After they left, Bella could no longer contain her anger and swept everything off the coffee table onto the floor.
"Ah-"
She screamed in frustration, venting her inner resentment.
Jeffery frowned deeply at her piercing scream and shouted angrily, "Enough! Shut up!"
