Upon hearing this, Lance finally felt a sense of relief.
At this moment, Old Hughes continued, "Although there's no life-threatening danger, Anna's injuries are still severe. First, she has a mild concussion and some external wounds on her head. Fortunately, the external wounds aren't too deep. During this period, make sure Anna avoids water and doesn't touch the wounds. Then there are other bruises on her body, the most serious being a slight fracture in her thigh."
As these words fell, Lance's heart ached deeply, his eyes reddening slightly.
"I understand. Thank you for your trouble tonight," he said hoarsely.
Old Hughes shook his head, indicating it was no trouble, and then gestured for Lance to handle the hospital admission procedures.
About half an hour later, Deanna was settled in the hospital room.
Lance stayed by her side, holding her hand.
Old Hughes looked on and couldn't help but sigh. "I don't know what's going on with you two. First, you got hurt, and now it's Anna. Is it some kind of curse?"
"It was my negligence," Lance replied in a raspy voice.
He had taken every precaution but hadn't expected someone to use his name to lure Deanna out.
Old Hughes listened and understood that this involved Lance's personal vendetta, so he said no more.
Meanwhile, Xavier had taken the captured men to the police station.
After all, they were legitimate businessmen and wouldn't resort to vigilante justice.
Later that evening, Xavier brought the interrogation results to the hospital.
Upon arriving at the hospital room and seeing the unconscious Deanna, he asked with concern, "Is Dr. Deanna alright?"
"She's not in any serious danger," Lance replied flatly before shifting the topic. "How did things go?"
Hearing this, Xavier reported what he had found. "I took those men to the police station. According to their interrogation, they were led to the room by staff from the club. Moreover, those men have certain peculiar preferences."
At this point, his voice lowered as he cautiously glanced at Lance.
Unsurprisingly, he saw a face so dark it seemed like it could drip water.
Lance suppressed his overwhelming anger and gritted his teeth. "Continue."
Xavier nodded and continued his report.
"Based on the police interrogation, I found the club manager and re-examined the surveillance footage. I discovered that a segment of the video had been tampered with. However, we managed to restore it and found that it was indeed as those men said; they were led to the room by club staff."
Hearing this made Lance's expression indescribably grim; the aura of hostility around him almost tangible.
He coldly asked again, "What did the club say?"
"The club manager claimed that those staff members weren't theirs; they were impostors," Xavier relayed the information he had received.
Even so, Lance was still furious. "They let impostors pose as their staff so easily? What kind of private club is that? Handle it. I don't want to see this club in Cloudmere anymore."
Hearing this, Xavier inwardly noted that it was as expected.
He nodded slightly and accepted his orders. "I'll have someone take care of it."
Lance continued giving instructions.
"And keep investigating this matter. Find those impostors; I want to know who is behind all this!"
"Understood!"
Xavier accepted his orders once more.
On another front, Bella was also keeping an eye on this situation.
When she learned that Cloudmere Club had refunded all membership fees and announced its closure that night, she assumed her plan had succeeded.
After all, if nothing had happened, Lance wouldn't have been angry enough to shut down the club.
Thinking this made her happily send her assistant to gather more information.
Half an hour later, she received a call from her assistant with bad news.
"Miss Cody, our plan failed. Those drunkards didn't defile Deanna; instead, they were caught by Lance and sent to the police station. Our planted staff members were also exposed. Lance is currently investigating them thoroughly."
"Damn it! How could it fail?!"
Bella's good mood was instantly ruined.
She gritted her teeth in frustration. "Why does that bitch always manage to escape?!"
Her assistant remained silent on the phone.
She knew that at times like these, her boss didn't need words-just someone to listen quietly as she vented.
After a few minutes of venting, Bella regained her composure.
She took a deep breath and remembered there was still something else she needed to handle.
"Find those people we hired earlier and give them some money to leave town-no, send them abroad for a while."
Given the Mercer family's influence, she couldn't feel secure even in another city.
Only by sending them abroad could she feel somewhat reassured.
The assistant accepted the order and then hung up the phone.
...
Early the next morning at the hospital, Deanna slowly woke up in bed feeling immense pain throughout her body.
At the same time, images from before she lost consciousness flashed through her mind.
