That night, Deanna received a call from Xavier.
"Dr. Deanna, Mr. Mercer had an accident abroad. You might be the only one who can save him now."
"What happened to him?"
Deanna asked in shock, her face filled with worry.
Xavier quickly explained, "Mr. Mercer was attacked and stabbed in the chest. The knife had an unknown toxin that is damaging his body. You know Mr. Mercer's condition; the antidote will take at least a month to develop, and he can't wait that long."
"I understand. I'll pack my things immediately."
Deanna agreed to go without further questions.
Xavier sighed in relief and said, "I'll arrange for a helicopter to pick you up shortly."
"Alright, I got it." Deanna nodded and hung up the phone.
Thinking about Lance's uncertain fate abroad, she hurried out of the pharmacy room. "Grandma, please help me pack some travel essentials. Not too much, just enough for a change of clothes. I'll gather the medicinal herbs."
Old Ashley, noticing her anxious demeanor, couldn't help but ask a few questions.
"What happened? Why are you suddenly packing?"
"Lance had an accident abroad. They said he was poisoned and is in bad shape. I need to go immediately. The people picking me up are already on their way." Deanna briefly explained.
Old Ashley was shocked.
She wanted to ask more but seeing her granddaughter's hurried back, she held back and went to the bedroom to help pack.
The two little ones overheard Deanna and ran out with worried faces. "Mommy, we heard Uncle Lance is sick. Is it true?"
Deanna turned and saw their anxious faces.
Knowing she couldn't hide it since she was leaving, she decided to tell them.
"Yes, your Uncle Lance is sick. Mommy needs to go take care of him. While I'm gone, you must listen to Great-grandma, okay?"
Unexpectedly, the two made a surprising request.
"Mommy, we want to see Uncle too. Can you take us with you?"
Chloe clung to Deanna's hand, eyes full of concern for Lance.
Gregory also pleaded, "Mommy, please take us. We can't focus on our studies without seeing Uncle."
Hearing this, Deanna felt a mix of emotions.
Could it be because they had blood ties to Lance?
Even though the two didn't know Lance was their biological father, they worried about him constantly?
Thinking this, Deanna realized she couldn't refuse them.
Finally, she agreed.
"Alright, you can come with me. But when we return, you must catch up on any missed schoolwork."
"We understand." The two quickly responded.
Seeing this, Deanna patted their heads and instructed, "Since you're coming with me, pack your bags quickly. We'll leave soon."
She then started gathering precious medicinal herbs from the cabinet.
Given that Xavier urgently sent a helicopter for her, Lance's condition was likely worse than described.
She decided to bring a piece of wild ginseng too.
If Lance's life was in danger, the ginseng could help sustain him and buy her some time.
While Deanna packed the herbs, Old Ashley came in hurriedly. "Deanna, someone is here to pick you up."
"I know."
Deanna quickened her pace in packing the herbs.
In less than ten minutes, they reached the top floor of the apartment building where Xavier's helicopter was waiting.
After a long flight of over ten hours, they finally arrived at Lance's property in New York.
As soon as they got off the helicopter, a butler approached them. "Hello Dr. Deanna, I'm Hector, the butler here."
"Hello Hector. Is Mr. Mercer here?"
Deanna greeted him and got straight to the point.
Hector shook his head. "Mr. Mercer is at the hospital. Mr. Nelson said if you want to see him, I should arrange a car for you."
"Arrange it now. I need to go immediately."
Without hesitation, Deanna made her decision.
The two little ones also insisted on going along.
Hector nodded and made the arrangements.
Soon after, they were on their way to the hospital.
Meanwhile, Xavier received the news that Deanna was on her way and struggled through his injuries to go downstairs and greet her.
Braylon, curious about Deanna, joined him at the hospital entrance.
While waiting, he couldn't help but ask about Deanna. "Do you think Dr. Deanna can really cure Lance?"
"Absolutely!"
Xavier had immense confidence in Deanna.
This made Braylon even more curious. "Is her medical skill really that impressive?"
He muttered to himself but got no response since Xavier had already spotted the car with the Mercer Group logo arriving at the hospital entrance.
