For the next two days, Deanna's life returned to its usual calm.
In the mornings, she went to the hilltop estate to tend to the precious herbs.
In the afternoons, she inspected the herb fields.
In the evenings, she helped the two little ones with their homework, put them to bed, and then went to the pharmacy to make pills.
It could be said that even without Lance, her days were still very fulfilling.
That evening, when Deanna returned from the herb fields, she saw Kade sitting in the living room, chatting with her grandmother.
The two little ones were playing with Lego nearby.
When they heard the sound at the door, they all looked up.
"Mommy, you're back."
As they spoke, the two little ones ran towards Deanna.
Deanna nodded at them and looked at Kade with some surprise. "Kade, why are you here?"
"I heard you were back, so I came to see you. I also wanted to invite you to dinner. Since my mother started using the medicine you gave her, her headaches have improved a lot."
Kade smiled and gave the excuse he had prepared.
Deanna chuckled. "You still remember that? I told you, it's not necessary."
"I think it is. I've already talked to Grandma; we won't cook tonight and will go out to eat instead."
Kade used Old Ashley as a shield.
Deanna looked over in surprise.
In her opinion, her grandmother would not have agreed.
Old Ashley noticed her gaze and gave a helpless look. "Mr. Burton was very insistent; I couldn't refuse."
Deanna understood and had to agree.
"Alright then, we'll go out to eat. But you'll have to wait a bit while I change my clothes."
She had just returned from the herb fields and was covered in dirt, not suitable for dining out.
Kade nodded and smiled. "No problem, go ahead and change."
The two little ones exchanged a glance and quickly followed their mommy.
"Mommy, who is that uncle?" Gregory asked eagerly once they were in the room.
Chloe also looked over curiously.
Deanna thought they were just curious and explained gently, "He's a senior from my university days. He's a nice person."
Hearing this evaluation, the two little ones became nervous.
"So, who do you like more, that uncle or Uncle Lance?"
Gregory asked, staring intently at Deanna, not wanting to miss any expression.
Deanna was stunned. She hadn't expected such a question from her child.
After recovering, she chuckled. "Why do you ask that?"
"Mommy, don't change the subject. Answer me: do you like Uncle Lance or that uncle more?"
Gregory insisted on an answer.
Deanna fell silent.
Chloe then spoke up, expressing her stance. "Mommy, I like Uncle Lance. Please don't like that uncle; I don't like him."
"Why do you like Uncle Lance but not that uncle?" Deanna asked immediately.
She hadn't figured out how to answer Gregory's question yet, so she used this opportunity to change the topic.
Chloe didn't notice her mommy's little trick and pouted. "I just don't like him."
Deanna couldn't help but laugh.
She patted Chloe's soft hair and advised, "Even if you don't like him, you shouldn't show it. It's impolite, understand?"
"I understand." Chloe nodded obediently.
Seeing her well-behaved look, Deanna was about to send the two little ones away.
But Gregory brought up the question again. "Mommy, you haven't answered me yet."
Deanna suddenly felt that having such a smart son was a trouble sometimes.
Seeing her son wouldn't let it go without an answer, she resigned herself. "Alright, I choose your Uncle Lance. Now go out; Mommy needs to change clothes."
She tried to push them out of the room.
Of course, part of it was her embarrassment.
But Gregory stood his ground with a pleading look.
"Mommy, just one more thing."
"Alright, what do you want to say?" Deanna looked at him in compromise.
She knew he wouldn't give up until he said his piece.
Gregory looked up seriously. "Mommy, remember what you just said. You like Uncle Lance, not that other uncle."
After saying this, he didn't wait for Deanna to chase them out but pulled his sister and ran out of the room.
Watching them close the door, Deanna's cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
"That little rascal! He's definitely been influenced by his Godmother!"
Despite her words, Deanna felt a bit strange inside.
Why did she feel like her son was reminding her of something?
Could it be that Kade liked her?
Deanna shook her head, thinking she was overthinking it.
How could Kade possibly like her?
