In the inn, the two little ones knew something had happened to their mommy. Their eyes reddened, but they were very sensible and did not cry.
"Brother, can Uncle Lance find mommy? I'm so worried," Chloe asked, her voice choked as she sniffled.
Gregory blinked hard, forcing back his tears. He told himself he was the little man of the house and couldn't cry.
He put on a serious face and said, "Uncle will definitely find mommy."
Julia stood nearby, watching the two little ones hold back their tears despite their worry. Her heart ached for their maturity, and she felt regretful.
If she had known Lance was so unreliable, she wouldn't have helped him!
If anything happened to Deanna, she would never forgive herself.
The more Julia thought about it, the more uneasy she felt. She decided she couldn't put all her hopes on Lance and planned to go out and look for Deanna herself.
"Gregory and Chloe, go back to your room and don't run around. I'm going out to find your mommy."
After saying this, she grabbed an umbrella provided by the inn and prepared to leave.
Just as she stepped out the door, she ran into Xavier returning.
Xavier saw Julia and immediately frowned, asking, "Miss King, where are you going?"
"I'm going to find Deanna. I can't rely on your boss."
Julia made no effort to hide her disdain for Lance.
Xavier was momentarily speechless.
Seeing that Julia was about to leave, he quickly stopped her. "Miss King, you don't need to go. Mr. Mercer has found her and is on his way back. If you want to help, go back to the inn and ask the staff to make two servings of ginger soup and prepare a hot bath for Dr. Deanna. I heard she's soaked from the rain and not in good condition."
"You should have said so earlier!" Julia glared at him angrily and hurried back into the inn.
The two little ones looked up expectantly. "Godmother, what did Uncle Xavier say? Did they find mommy?"
"Yes, they found her, but she's not in good shape. Go back to your room and wait for me. I'll come find you after I make some arrangements." Julia nodded and then headed to the front desk.
After everything was prepared, nearly half an hour had passed before Julia saw two figures slowly approaching the inn's entrance.
She couldn't hold back any longer and ran out, finding that it was indeed Lance and Deanna.
Under the streetlight, she saw that Deanna was in terrible condition.
Although Lance had tried to shield her from the rain, it had soaked her clothes.
With the chilly October wind blowing, Deanna was shivering uncontrollably, her face pale.
"Deanna, how did you get so wet? Let me help you back!"
Without hesitation, Julia pushed Lance aside and supported Deanna towards the inn.
Both Lance and Deanna were taken aback by her actions.
Julia didn't notice their reactions and apologized guiltily. "If I had known Lance was so unreliable, I would never have helped you two get together. He deserves to be single and unable to find a girlfriend!"
Her voice wasn't quiet, and Lance heard it clearly from behind. His expression turned awkward.
Deanna felt conflicted as well.
Before she could say anything, her thoughts were interrupted.
"Mommy, you're finally back."
The two little ones ran out from the inn's lobby. Despite Deanna being soaked, they each hugged one of her legs and started crying.
Chloe, in particular, cried very sadly.
Deanna knew that her absence must have scared them terribly.
She gently patted their backs to comfort them. "It's okay now. Mommy is fine. Don't cry."
"Yes, stop crying. Let your mommy go back to her room and change clothes first. She's still wet and could get sick," Julia also tried to comfort them.
Hearing that their mommy might get sick, the two little ones tried hard to control their emotions and reluctantly let go.
"Mommy, let's go back to the room quickly. Godmother and we have prepared a hot bath and ginger soup for you."
They each took one of Deanna's hands and hurriedly led her towards the room.
Soon, they disappeared from the lobby.
Lance stood at the door, realizing that no one was paying attention to him. Even he understood that he had angered everyone. His handsome face was full of helplessness.
Xavier stood beside him and couldn't help but offer some advice.
"You can't pursue Dr. Deanna like this. For example, this morning you shouldn't have taken her phone or let her leave alone after arguing with her. When dealing with an angry woman, you need to coax her and stick by her side."
Lance's face turned awkward and slightly angry upon hearing this.
It was clear that Xavier had been nearby when he argued with Deanna.
"If you're so knowledgeable about this, why don't you find yourself a girlfriend?" Lance retorted before turning and striding back to his room.
