Xavier nodded and left.
Lance watched him walk away, then turned to head back to the ward, only to see Chloe and Gregory peeking through the door.
"What are you two doing here?"
He walked over with a smile.
Chloe and Gregory opened the door, sniffing, "We were afraid you would leave, Uncle."
"Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere."
Lance said, taking each of their hands and leading them into the ward.
At that moment, Old Ashley slowly woke up in her hospital bed.
She looked around at the unfamiliar surroundings, then realized where she was and struggled to sit up.
Lance quickly stepped forward to help, placing a pillow behind her for comfort.
The two children gathered by the bedside, looking at Old Ashley with concern.
"Great-grandma, are you feeling better? Is there anywhere that still hurts?"
"Great-grandma, you scared me and my brother."
They spoke one after the other, their worry evident in their eyes.
Old Ashley gently patted their heads. "I'm fine, don't worry."
But Lance noticed her pale face and felt uneasy. He gave her a few words of caution.
"I know you're worried about Dr. Deanna, but your health is important too. For Dr. Deanna's sake, don't push yourself. I'll find a way to get her out."
"Thank you, Mr. Mercer."
Old Ashley did not refuse because she didn't know who else could help save her granddaughter besides Lance.
Lance nodded and continued, "I heard Ricky came to your house this morning and caused trouble, breaking many things. The house is unsafe to live for now. You need to rest and recover in the hospital for a few days. As for Chloe and Gregory, I'll take them to my place and look after them."
"Isn't that too much trouble?"
Old Ashley hesitated.
To her, it seemed too much to ask Lance to save her granddaughter and also take care of the children.
But Lance shook his head dismissively. "It's no trouble at all. Besides, there are servants at home; I won't have to worry about much."
Hearing this, Old Ashley couldn't refuse any longer.
So Lance took the children back to Hencard Villa.
After everything that had happened, the children's spirits were low, their heads hanging down.
Lance noticed this and felt heartbroken. He resolved to rescue Deanna as soon as possible.
Later that day, he went back to the police station to see Deanna.
Deanna was surprised when she heard someone wanted to see her; she thought it might be Julia or Landon.
But when she saw Lance in the visiting room, she was taken aback.
She hadn't expected Lance to come, and an indescribable emotion filled her heart.
Before she could speak, Lance began updating her on the situation outside.
"I've taken Chloe and Gregory home with me. Your grandmother was upset and isn't feeling well; she's resting in the hospital. She's fine but too old to handle such stress."
"I understand. Thank you, Mr. Mercer."
Deanna looked at him gratefully.
Lance shook his head. "These are minor matters. The important thing now is to clear your name. Tell me everything about this situation."
"The police said the prescription that could prove my innocence was destroyed. But Ricky has a prescription that doesn't match what I wrote; it includes musk."
Deanna's eyes sharpened as she spoke. "I'm sure I didn't include that ingredient because it conflicts with the others and would worsen that old lady's condition."
Lance's expression grew serious at these words.
"If that's true, then Ricky's prescription is fake."
"It is fake, but the problem is that the handwriting matches mine exactly."
Deanna's face darkened as she spoke.
Lance narrowed his eyes, a cold light flashing in his dark pupils.
If that's the case, someone was clearly setting Deanna up.
But who would do this to her?
Deanna also wondered who she had offended to be framed like this.
Seeing her troubled face, Lance suppressed his frustration and said calmly, "Don't worry too much about this. I'll find out the truth and clear your name. Wait for me."
For some reason, hearing these words and seeing his serious expression made Deanna's heart skip a beat and feel warm inside.
She looked back at him with shimmering eyes.
"Okay, I'll wait for you."
After talking for a while longer, Lance left the police station.
Before leaving, he arranged for someone to look after Deanna in the police station to prevent her from being bullied.
It was a good thing he did because otherwise, Deanna might have faced Emily's revenge.
