When they got home, the two little ones heard the door open and immediately jumped off the sofa. They ran towards the door with their short legs and saw their mommy and Uncle Lance standing outside.
The two little ones exchanged a glance, their faces beaming with smiles, and said in unison, "Welcome back, Mommy."
As soon as they said this, Chloe added, "I didn't expect Uncle really went to bring Mommy back."
Deanna was stunned upon hearing this. Could it be that Lance showing up at the club wasn't a coincidence, but he actually went there to bring her back? But why? Deanna couldn't figure it out and felt very puzzled. She wanted to ask Lance, but when the words reached her lips, she didn't know how to ask and felt it was an awkward question.
While she was hesitating, she missed the best opportunity to ask. Because Chloe had already happily pulled Lance's hand and led him to the sofa, eagerly asking questions.
"Uncle, when you went to pick up my mommy, did anyone confess their love to her?"
Lance was taken aback. What kind of question was that? Thinking of the scene he saw at the club earlier, for some reason, he didn't want to tell the two little ones. So he lightly flicked Chloe's forehead with his hand and chuckled, "Kids shouldn't be so curious about adult matters."
Rejected and lightly flicked, Chloe felt very wronged. She covered her forehead, but her big black eyes were still darting around mischievously. Actually, she had asked that question on purpose, just to set up her next question better.
"Uncle, you refused my last question. You can't refuse my next one, or I won't talk to you anymore."
The little girl hugged Lance's arm and pouted cutely. Lance couldn't help but laugh but agreed, "Alright, ask your next question."
Hearing this, Chloe asked, "Uncle, do you think my mommy looks very pretty tonight?"
Lance was stunned by the question and instinctively glanced at Deanna beside him. He couldn't deny that Deanna did look different tonight. Her carefully dressed appearance was neither gaudy nor plain, elegant and dignified, comparable to any high-society lady! No wonder she attracted trouble at the club.
Deanna felt a bit embarrassed hearing her daughter's question. What kind of question was that? But before she could scold her daughter, she heard Lance's unique voice in the living room.
"Yes, she does look very pretty."
As he spoke, Lance looked at Deanna and nodded seriously. Deanna met his deep black eyes and was stunned.
Seeing this, Chloe laughed happily and said in a cheerful voice, "I also think Mommy looks very pretty tonight."
At this moment, Gregory added another comment. "Uncle has good taste."
The atmosphere suddenly became a bit awkward. After a long while, Deanna found her voice again and cleared her throat to cover her unease.
Just as she started to speak, three pairs of eyes turned to look at her simultaneously.
"Uh, well, I need to remove my makeup and take a shower."
Almost as soon as she said this, Deanna fled the living room as if someone were chasing her.
Gregory watched this scene and sighed softly, muttering, "How will Mommy ever get married if she's always so shy!"
Although his voice wasn't loud, it was enough for Old Ashley sitting nearby to hear. Combining it with what she had seen earlier, she knew what the two little ones were up to and found it amusing but shook her head.
Meanwhile, after entering her room, Deanna leaned against the door with her heart pounding as if it would jump out of her chest. Her cheeks slowly turned hot. She couldn't help but cup her face with both hands to cool down her cheeks, but it didn't help much. At that moment, she felt a bit inexplicable.
Why did her face turn red just because of Lance's words? Many people had complimented her looks tonight. However, she didn't want to think too deeply about it and attributed it to the alcohol she had tonight.
With that thought, Deanna hurriedly went to the bathroom and took a cold shower. When she came out again, she had calmed down inside.
After tidying up briefly, Deanna returned to the living room and saw Lance helping the two little ones with their homework. By then, Grandma had already gone to rest.
Under the light, Lance patiently guided the two little ones. The tenderness on his face was something Deanna hadn't seen before and made her feel a bit mesmerized. This gentle side of Lance was new to her. She thought that if he had children in the future, he would definitely be a very competent father.
With that thought in mind, she turned to the kitchen and cut some fruit.
"Take a break and have some fruit."
As she spoke, she sat down next to Lance and leaned over to place the fruit platter on the coffee table. This action brought them closer together.
Smelling the unique fragrance from Deanna's body, Lance felt a strange itch in his heart.
