Since Deanna wouldn't relent, there was no turning back on this matter.
In the end, Emily suffered the consequences and was detained at the police station.
Meanwhile, Deanna, considering the importance of rare herbs, transferred all of them to the mountain estate.
As for the original herb field, after some reprocessing, she planned to use it for growing common herbs.
When Lance learned of her plan, he frowned slightly and disapproved, "There are no measures here, and Emily is not someone to be trifled with. She will definitely retaliate. If she targets the herb field again, all your efforts will be in vain."
"But this herb field was left by my master. I can't just abandon it."
Deanna knew Lance was looking out for her, but she had her own reasons to protect it.
Hearing this, Lance saw the determination in her eyes and said no more.
The next day, a protective net and surveillance cameras were installed around the herb field.
Amelia noticed many workers in Deanna's herb field and worried something was wrong. She hurried to inform Deanna.
"Deanna, there are a lot of people in your herb field with tools. Are they here to cause trouble again?"
At these words, Deanna's expression changed. She rushed to the herb field without delay.
Old Ashley also heard and followed closely behind, looking equally concerned.
Upon arrival, Deanna saw many people working in her herb field, with Xavier directing them. She was momentarily stunned.
"Mr. Nelson, what is this?"
"Dr. Deanna, to prevent further damage to the herb field, we plan to fence it with iron bars and install surveillance around it," Xavier explained respectfully.
Deanna was surprised but said nothing. She knew this must be Lance's idea.
A few hours later, looking at the newly fortified herb field, Deanna felt deeply moved.
"Please thank Mr. Mercer for me," she said, turning to Xavier.
Xavier hesitated, "Dr. Deanna, if you want to thank him, it's better to do it yourself."
Deanna agreed that a personal thank you would be more sincere and said no more.
Later, after the herb field was secured, Xavier left with his team.
Only Deanna and Old Ashley remained.
Old Ashley looked at the transformed herb field and sighed emotionally, "Mr. Mercer is truly a good person. Without his help with Emily's matter, who knows how it would have ended? Now he's helped us reorganize the herb field with protective nets and surveillance. You must thank Mr. Mercer properly."
Indeed, Lance might have helped because she could treat him, but he had done so much for her. Thinking of this, Deanna nodded and resolved to find a way to cure Lance!
No matter what, she owed Lance this favor.
Lance was unaware of Deanna's thoughts and didn't give much thought to his small gesture.
In the evening, as Lance prepared to work late, he received an unexpected call from an unknown number.
He wasn't planning to answer but accidentally hit the accept button.
As soon as he answered, Chloe's soft voice came through.
"Handsome Uncle."
"Chloe?"
Lance was surprised and checked his phone screen again to confirm it wasn't Dr. Deanna's number. He frowned and asked, "Whose phone are you using? Aren't you at home?"
"I'm at home. I took your number from Mommy's phone and called you using my watch. This way, I can call you whenever I miss you," the little girl explained in her sweet voice.
Lance sighed in relief and couldn't help but smile. He never thought he would be so popular with kids.
He softened his voice, "So why did you call me?"
"Nothing much. Just wanted to thank you for helping Mommy. My brother and I baked cookies with Great-grandma this afternoon. Great-grandma cooked dinner and wants to invite you over. Do you have time?" The little girl's voice was full of anticipation.
Lance hesitated because he had an engagement that evening. The little girl didn't know this and sounded pitiful when she heard no immediate answer, "Uncle doesn't have time?"
Hearing her voice, Lance couldn't bring himself to refuse.
"I do have time, but it will be later. Is eight o'clock okay?"
"Yes, as long as Uncle can come." Chloe's voice brightened with joy.
Lance felt infected by her happiness and smiled too. "Don't worry, I'll be there on time."
Chloe became even happier upon hearing this.
She glanced at her brother who was eavesdropping nearby and said cheerfully, "My brother and I will wait for you."
"Okay."
Lance responded patiently.
Gregory heard and smiled quietly.
