The atmosphere in the bright and luxurious living room was tense.
Raphael listened to Deanna's words, not understanding.
He frowned and asked, "What do you mean by that?"
After speaking, he looked at his wife behind him, pondering for a few seconds. "Did you do something again?"
Emily felt guilty when questioned but thought of what she had done and could not admit it. "What could I have done? I've been at home all this time. Clearly, she's the one looking for trouble!"
Deanna sneered at her words.
"Looking for trouble? Emily, I advise you not to make useless excuses here. Tom has already confessed that you instructed him to destroy my herb field!"
"I didn't!" Emily loudly retorted, as if that could prove her innocence.
Deanna smirked. "Still not admitting it? Let me tell you, even if you don't admit it, it's useless. The police are already on their way! If you won't let me live peacefully, don't expect to have a good time yourself!"
With every word she spoke, she took a step closer to Emily.
Emily was so intimidated by Deanna's powerful aura that she kept retreating. "What do you want?"
"Don't worry, I won't hit you now because the law will punish people like you!"
Deanna stopped and looked down at her.
Seeing Deanna's determined expression, Emily panicked.
Even so, Emily gritted her teeth and said, "You're talking nonsense. What Tom? What herb field? I don't know anything about it!"
"Don't know him? Do you think I'd come to you without solid evidence?"
Deanna sneered. "Mr. Mercer helped me investigate thoroughly yesterday. Tom is the driver your company arranged for you, to take you to work. You two are still in contact!"
As these words fell, Emily's face turned pale, and her body began to tremble uncontrollably. But it wasn't over yet.
Deanna continued, "Tom is already with the police! Destroying my herb field is not something you can brush off!"
During this time, Lance stood quietly watching from the side.
He realized that although this woman came to settle scores, she was very clever. Her speech was so convincing that Emily was very likely to be intimidated to confess her doings.
Sure enough, Emily, knowing she couldn't escape, finally snapped in anger. "So what if I did it? It's just some worthless herbs!"
Seeing her arrogant attitude, Deanna was furious but knew now wasn't the time for a verbal fight.
"So you're admitting it was you who instructed Tom?"
Deanna's cold eyes locked onto Emily.
Emily looked up and met her gaze, gritting her teeth. "So what if it was me?"
Unexpectedly, Deanna laughed.
Seeing the charming smile on her face, Emily suddenly had a bad feeling.
"Why are you laughing?"
"Nothing. It's good that you admitted it."
As she spoke, Deanna took out her phone.
The phone screen showed it was recording.
She had set it up before coming in.
Deanna paused the recording and saved it before putting the phone away and looking back at Emily with a sneer. "See you at the police station!"
At this moment, Emily realized she had been tricked!
"Deanna, you tricked me!"
She glared at Deanna with hatred in her eyes.
Deanna shrugged indifferently and mocked, "You should blame yourself for being so stupid."
Emily was furious but had no way out.
In the end, she could only look to Raphael for help.
"Honey, please help me. Don't let Deanna give that recording to the police. Otherwise, I'm finished. I don't want to go to jail!"
Upon hearing his wife's anxious tone, Raphael's face darkened.
He wanted to scold Emily but swallowed his words. The most important thing now was to prevent Deanna from taking this to the police.
Otherwise, Emily going to jail would be a minor issue compared to the turmoil it would cause Howard Group.
Taking a deep breath, Raphael said, "Deanna, why make things so difficult for Emily? Emily is your sister after all. How can you be so heartless?" He mentioned their family ties in an attempt to mediate.
Unfortunately, Deanna wasn't buying it and sneered. "Why shouldn't I be heartless? And when you're asking me this, why don't you ask Emily how she could be so heartless to destroy my hard-earned herb field?"
Raphael was at a loss for words.
He looked at Deanna in silence, knowing she wouldn't let this go easily now that she had leverage.
Finally, as if making a compromise, he slowly said, "What do you want? Tell me how much those herbs are worth, and we'll compensate you!"
