Later, after kindergarten ended, Gregory and Chloe walked out hand in hand and saw Lance standing at the school gate.
"Handsome Uncle," they exclaimed, their eyes lighting up as they ran towards him.
Gregory was more reserved and stopped a few steps away from Lance. Chloe, however, happily threw herself into Lance's arms. "Handsome Uncle, did you come with Mommy to pick us up?"
"I'm sorry to tell you, but it's just me today," Lance replied, his stern features softening as he looked at the adorable little girl at his feet.
Hearing this, the two children blinked and asked in unison, "Handsome Uncle, why didn't Mommy come?"
"Your mommy is busy and asked me to take care of you for a while. She'll come to pick you up later when she's done. Is that okay?" Lance explained patiently, looking at the two children for approval.
The two children, who liked him and wanted to play with him, nodded without hesitation. "Of course."
Relieved, Lance smiled faintly. He had been worried that the children wouldn't want to go with him without Deanna. It seemed his worries were unfounded.
"How about I take you to dinner now?" Lance bent down slightly, smiling at the two children in front of him.
They nodded obediently. Chloe clung to Lance's arm and said coquettishly, "Handsome Uncle, can I choose what we eat?"
Lance found it amusing but didn't object. "Sure, what do you want to eat?"
"I want steak and some delicious cake," Chloe said, licking her lips and looking at Lance with expectant eyes.
Lance chuckled softly, his tone indulgent. "Little foodie."
With that, he took the two children to a high-end Western restaurant.
"Here is our menu, sir. Please take a look," the staff member said, handing over the menu.
Instead of ordering immediately, Lance handed the menu to the children and asked, "What do you want to eat?"
"I want this and this," Chloe said unreservedly, flipping through the menu and pointing at the colorful pictures.
Watching the two children seriously study the menu, the staff member couldn't help but be charmed. "How can they be so adorable? A dad taking his kids out is just too cute," she whispered, thinking her voice was too low for them to hear.
Little did she know that both Lance and the children heard her clearly. Gregory and Chloe exchanged a glance and covered their mouths to stifle their laughter, not intending to correct her.
If possible, they even hoped this misunderstanding would last forever. They liked Handsome Uncle and wished he could be their daddy.
Lance didn't know what the children were thinking and had no intention of explaining. Later, when the food arrived, although he had no experience taking care of children, he did his best to help them with their meal. He thoughtfully cut their steaks and placed them in front of them. "Eat up."
"Thank you, Uncle," they said sweetly before picking up their forks to eat.
Seeing their satisfied expressions, Lance sipped his wine, feeling an indescribable sense of contentment. He thought that having such cute and sensible children wouldn't be so bad if he got married.
Half an hour later, they finished their meal. Lance got up to pay the bill while the two children played behind him. At that moment, a beautiful woman walked up to Lance flirtatiously. She didn't notice the children behind him and extended her well-manicured hand with a coquettish smile. "Hi there, handsome. Can I get your contact information?"
Lance frowned and looked at her coldly. Before he could say anything, he felt a weight on his leg. Chloe had run over and hugged him.
"No way, lady. My daddy already has someone special. You might not have a chance," Chloe said innocently, looking up at the woman with wide eyes.
Chloe had been keeping an eye on Handsome Uncle despite playing with her brother. Seeing a woman approach him made her anxious, so she ran over immediately.
The woman looked embarrassed and apologized awkwardly. "I'm sorry. I didn't know you were married. I hope I didn't cause any trouble." She turned and left quickly, too embarrassed to stay.
Watching the woman leave, Chloe's eyes sparkled mischievously as she smiled sweetly at Lance. "Handsome Uncle, see? I helped you get rid of an admirer."
Lance couldn't help but laugh. He understood the little girl's intentions but found that he didn't mind her actions at all. Stroking her head gently, he said indulgently, "You little rascal."
