Deanna didn't have time to ask more questions. She quickly nodded, "Okay, I'll be right there!"
After hanging up the phone, she finally felt a sense of relief.
Fortunately, Chloe was safe!
"Deanna, is there any news about Chloe?"
Deanna nodded, briefly explained the situation to the teacher, and left with Gregory.
...
Meanwhile.
Lance hung up the phone and looked at the little girl sitting in front of him, swinging her short legs. He felt helpless.
Despite handling numerous tricky situations in the business world over the years, he was still at a loss when it came to this little girl.
He reached out and rubbed his temples.
"I've already called your mommy. She'll be here soon."
Chloe blinked her big eyes and smiled sweetly, "Thank you, handsome uncle."
After chatting with the little one for a while, Lance had a rough idea of the situation.
This little girl asked him to be her dad for a day.
After hearing this, miraculously, Lance didn't feel any aversion. Anyway, he liked these two little ones very much.
Helping out wouldn't be a big deal.
However, what shocked him was Chloe's boldness!
Running out from kindergarten alone to find him, just thinking about it felt dangerous and terrifying.
Lance put on a stern face, pretending to be unhappy.
"This time, it's forgiven, but you mustn't run out like this again, understand?"
"When I called your mommy just now, she and the teacher were very worried! Acting like this makes your mommy so anxious."
Hearing this, Chloe pouted, seemingly recognizing her mistake.
She lowered her eyes, "Uncle, I know I was wrong. I won't dare to do it again."
Seeing Chloe so obedient, Lance nodded.
He reached out and patted Chloe's little head.
"That's better. Admitting your mistake and correcting it makes you a good child!"
"But when your mommy arrives, you must apologize to her properly."
Chloe nodded obediently, "Uncle, I know."
This time running out really made her mommy worried.
Seeing Chloe being so well-behaved, Lance didn't say anything more.
He took out some snacks and placed them in front of Chloe, "Eat."
About half an hour later, Deanna walked in with Gregory from outside.
She was so anxious that she didn't even bother to knock.
"Chloe!"
As soon as she came in, Deanna angrily pulled Chloe over and spanked her twice, regardless of anyone being around.
Deanna was panting, and due to the tension, a thin layer of sweat appeared on her forehead.
"How could you run around like that?"
"Do you know how worried I was when the teacher called me?"
Deanna rarely hit her child, but this time she was truly frightened.
Chloe didn't dare to make a sound.
She bit her lip, looking aggrieved, and said in a soft voice, "Mommy, I know I was wrong!"
She held back her tears and obediently apologized.
Deanna was extremely angry, seeing the little girl in front of her.
Her chest heaved, and her eyes were red.
The anger in her heart vanished instantly upon hearing Chloe's apology.
What replaced it was fear and worry.
She lowered her eyes, hiding the mist in them.
Deanna reached out and hugged Chloe tightly, choking up, "Do you know how worried mommy and your brother were about you?"
"Your brother cried while looking for you this afternoon, do you know that?"
Hearing this, Chloe felt even more guilty.
She pursed her lips, tears rolling down her cheeks.
"Brother, Mommy, I'm sorry! I was wrong, making you worried."
Gregory, standing nearby, looked like a sensible little adult.
He reached out and patted Chloe's head.
"Chloe, next time you want to go somewhere, you have to tell me. No matter where you go, I will accompany you. You can't run around alone, understand?"
Chloe nodded obediently, "I understand, brother."
Lance stood aside, quietly watching everything before him.
Inexplicably, he felt a sense of warmth.
A different kind of warmth surged from the bottom of his heart.
Perhaps this is what a family feels like.
He smiled, "Alright, the child is found, Dr. Deanna, don't be angry anymore."
Hearing the man's voice, Deanna came to her senses.
They were in Lance's office!
She reached out and wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes, smiling apologetically.
"Sorry, Mr. Mercer."
She rarely showed this side of herself in front of others.
Today, she truly lost her composure in front of Lance.
Then, she tightened her grip on the two little ones' hands and said to Lance, "I'm really sorry about today. Thank you for your help again."
She didn't even know how many times it had been.
Since she met Lance, it seemed she had been troubling this man constantly.
Lance, however, didn't mind, "It's no trouble."
