Chapter 1243: An Eye for an Eye

After the lunch break, Deanna urged Lance to confront Eula on her behalf.

Lance had no choice but to agree.

However, he was worried about leaving Deanna alone in the hospital and decided to contact his mother.

Just then, Gunner and Julia arrived to visit Deanna, so he entrusted her to their care.

"Mr. Mercer, go ahead with your tasks. I'll look after Deanna; nothing will happen to her," Julia assured him, patting her chest.

Seeing this, Lance felt a bit uneasy.

Although Julia was reliable in major matters, at other times, she could be...

Never mind, with Mr. Martinez around, there shouldn't be any problems.

With that thought, Lance nodded to them and left.

For a moment, only Deanna, Gunner, and Julia remained in the ward.

Julia, unaware of what had happened to Deanna, approached the bed with concern. "Deanna, how did you fall ill? Weren't you fine before?"

"Uh... I guess I didn't rest well earlier," Deanna replied, not telling the truth.

Although Julia wasn't an outsider, Deanna didn't want her to know about those dark matters.

Julia didn't suspect anything and started lecturing her. "You see, I told you this wouldn't work. I know you're sad about your grandmother's passing, but you shouldn't neglect your health. Look at what happened now. Next time we visit your grandmother, I'll have a good talk with her and your mom."

Deanna couldn't argue and smiled wryly. "You sound just like Gregory and Chloe."

"Gregory and Chloe said the same thing? Haha, no wonder they're my godchildren. Such great minds think alike," Julia laughed even more happily.

Gunner listened to their conversation and glanced at Deanna but didn't reveal anything.

Later, Lionel came to pick up Julia, leaving Deanna to face another round of lecturing.

"You've become bolder. If Lance hadn't brought you to the hospital in time, do you know what could have happened?" Gunner scolded sternly.

Deanna had no choice but to listen obediently and promised not to act impulsively again.

In truth, she regretted her actions after hearing the doctor's words that morning.

She could always deal with Eula later; there was no need to risk her health or her child's well-being.

Thinking of this, Deanna gently touched her belly, her face full of regret. "I'm sorry, baby. Mommy was impulsive and hurt you too."

Her five-month-old belly couldn't respond to her apology.

Seeing her sincere remorse, Gunner didn't say anything further.

Meanwhile, Lance arrived at the basement where Eula was being held.

With a creak, the iron door opened.

Eula looked up at the sound and saw Lance walking in. She sneered, "Finally here. I was wondering if you'd forgotten about me. But knowing you, that's impossible. Something must have happened outside that forced you to pause dealing with me. Ah, Deanna didn't come with you. Is she in bad shape?"

Though phrased as a question, Eula's expression was confident.

"Deanna must be feeling very guilty now. She's sensitive and values family deeply. Knowing her grandmother died for her must be unbearable. Let me guess; she's probably in the hospital, and even your child might be at risk. If that's the case, my death would be worth it."

Eula's face was filled with smug satisfaction as she spoke.

Lance's expression turned grim.

He narrowed his eyes at Eula, his whole demeanor like a demon emerging from hell as he approached her step by step.

Sensing the murderous intent in the air, Eula felt fear but still forced herself to stand tall and confront Lance.

She had already accepted death when Lance captured her because she knew he would never let her go.

Just when she thought Lance would attack her, he grabbed her chin and poured a green ceramic bottle's contents into her mouth.

Bitter powder spread through Eula's mouth instantly.

She struggled instinctively, but Lance's grip was like iron clamps, leaving her no escape.

Only after forcing all the powder into her mouth did Lance release her, step back, toss the bottle aside, and take out a handkerchief to wipe his hands.

Eula collapsed on the ground, coughing violently as she tried to expel the powder she had swallowed.

No matter how much she gagged herself, she couldn't vomit much out. Instead, a burning pain started in her stomach and spread throughout her body as if thousands of ants were gnawing at her flesh, causing excruciating agony.

"What did you make me eat?" Eula asked through gritted teeth, enduring the intense pain as she looked up at Lance.

Lance gave her a cold glance and said icily, "This medicine was made by Deanna. It's called 'An Eye for an Eye.'"
