In the room, Lexi never expected someone to eavesdrop.
She brought tea, nervously saying, "It's just plain tea, Mr. Mercer, please don't mind."
"I won't."
Lance said, proving with his actions that he didn't mind.
Deanna watched Lance drink from the old-fashioned teacup, feeling waves of emotion.
Having been together for so long, she knew Lance's cleanliness habits well. Seeing him drink Lexi's tea naturally, she was truly moved!
It wasn't that Lexi's tea was dirty; it was the difference between a wealthy family and an ordinary one.
At home, Lance always drank fresh spring water transported from the mountains.
Lexi's water was filtered underground water from the local water plant.
The taste difference was evident without needing judgment.
Seeing Lance not minding her water, Lexi finally showed a relieved smile.
She thought, maybe wealthy people aren't that hard to get along with.
Thinking this, she looked at Deanna and curiously asked, "I heard you got your mother's belongings back. Congratulations."
"Thanks to Lance, otherwise it wouldn't have been so easy to get my mother's things back."
Deanna said, looking affectionately at the man beside her.
Lance returned her gaze.
Their eyes met, and the air was filled with sweetness.
Lexi could tell their relationship was even better than what was portrayed on TV.
After some small talk, Lexi couldn't hold back her curiosity and asked, "So, is there a reason you came over this time?"
"Actually, nothing much. I just wanted to thank you for taking care of us over the past few years."
As soon as Deanna finished speaking, Xavier presented a prepared gift-a set of exquisite gold jewelry that looked very valuable.
Lexi was stunned for a few seconds before quickly refusing, "This is too valuable; I can't accept it. Deanna, please take it back."
"You must accept it. Without you, Gregory might not have survived those years. I even think this gift is too light but feared giving too much would bring you trouble."
Deanna said this because Lexi had a house full of troublesome relatives.
If they knew Deanna gave Lexi something valuable, they would definitely come after her. Instead of repaying a favor, it would cause more problems.
Thinking this, Deanna persuaded again, "Lexi, please accept it."
The two little ones also pleaded cutely.
In the end, Lexi couldn't refuse and accepted the gift.
Meanwhile, Lance frowned and remembered what Deanna had just said.
It seemed there were still things from those years he hadn't fully investigated.
Outside the door, a woman eavesdropping was curious about Deanna's gift to Lexi.
"What did Deanna give Lexi?" she muttered softly.
Though her voice was low, Xavier, who had trained in martial arts and stood near the door, still heard it.
Xavier frowned slightly and directly opened the door before the woman could react.
"Ah-"
With a scream, the eavesdropping woman lost her balance and fell in front of Xavier.
Deanna and Lexi stopped their conversation and looked over with strange expressions.
The two little ones were also speechless. "Daphne, why do you still like spying on others?"
"Gregory and Chloe, don't be rude."
Deanna admonished the two little ones.
They pouted unhappily but said nothing more.
Lexi looked at Daphne disapprovingly and questioned, "What are you doing outside my door?"
"Ha ha, nothing much. Just passing by and lost my balance. I remembered I have soup on the stove; I should go back."
Daphne laughed awkwardly as she stood up but didn't move. Instead, her eyes darted around restlessly.
She wanted to see what gift Deanna had given Lexi but only saw a covered brocade box and nothing else.
Lance noticed her small movements. Remembering Xavier's investigation that revealed Daphne often spoke ill of Deanna and the two little ones in the past, his gaze turned icy.
"Xavier."
"Yes!"
Xavier nodded in acknowledgment. Without needing further instructions from Lance, he knew what his boss meant.
With a stern face, he approached Daphne and said firmly, "Ma'am, our Missus needs to catch up with Lexi. It's not convenient to have outsiders here. Please leave."
Fear flashed in Daphne's eyes. She didn't dare say anything and left awkwardly.
As the door closed, Lexi snorted lightly. "Daphne is getting more outrageous."
Deanna smiled but didn't respond. Instead, she changed the topic and asked, "How is Niamh lately? I plan to visit her later."
