"You all misunderstood, Lance and I are just friends, not in the kind of relationship you think."
Eula wanted to admit it, but knowing Lance would never cooperate, she settled for a compromise.
Of course, she didn't completely deny it, leaving some room for speculation.
The reporters, skilled in playing with words, noticed the unusual phrasing and became even more excited.
But before they could ask any more explosive questions, a cold bucket of water was thrown on them.
Lance's emotionless voice rang out, "Miss Eula and I just happen to know each other, we're not close. If I find any publication spreading rumors about me, they will receive a lawyer's letter from the Mercer Group. As for Deanna and me, that's my private matter and none of your business."
With that, he ignored the reporters and got into a car with Xavier clearing the way.
Soon, the car started and left the scene.
Eula snapped out of her daze, her face turning extremely ugly.
She never expected Lance wouldn't even give her this bit of face, making her lose face in front of so many media outlets.
At that moment, she couldn't stay any longer and left with a cold face.
The reporters looked at each other in dismay.
"How are we supposed to report this?"
"Just tell the truth. Do you dare to spread rumors about Mr. Mercer?"
"Exactly. You know Mr. Mercer's power. If we offend him, none of us can survive in this industry."
With that, the reporters dispersed in small groups.
Landon and his father finally came out of the police station.
Landon's father saw the departing reporters and turned to slap Landon on the back as a warning, "See? Mr. Mercer is not like you said. He and Miss Deanna must have had a misunderstanding. I warn you, don't get involved in Mr. Mercer and Miss Deanna's affairs. If you anger Mr. Mercer, don't expect me to save you!"
"Don't worry, I won't need your help!"
Landon was stubborn and immediately expressed his determination, "I missed the best opportunity because of your interference before. Now that I finally have another chance, I won't miss it again!"
Landon's father was stunned by Landon's firm attitude.
By the time he reacted, Landon had already left.
On the way back, Eula became more and more unwilling to accept it.
She also began to doubt Lance and Deanna's breakup attitude.
Could it be that they didn't really break up and were just having a spat?
Unable to figure it out, she couldn't help but ask, "Avery, what do you think is going on between Lance and Deanna? Are they really having a quarrel?"
"I'm not sure either, but we can find a way to test Lance's attitude towards Deanna."
Avery proactively suggested a plan.
Eula thought for a moment and agreed, "Alright, have someone create some harmless trouble for Deanna and leave clues pointing to us. Let's see how Lance reacts."
"Yes." Avery nodded in agreement.
The next second, Eula seemed to think of something else and continued to instruct, "And take care of that Landon for me. Leave no traces."
Her last words were filled with menace.
Avery nodded to show understanding.
Meanwhile, Lance was also contacting Deanna on his phone to explain the online situation.
Deanna saw his message and suppressed a smile as she typed her reply, "I didn't misunderstand. I saw your interview online too. I didn't expect Landon would actually go looking for you."
"Since he was standing up for you, I let him off this time. But next time won't be so easy!"
Lance said as he changed the subject and asked with concern, "Have you remembered anything recently?"
He didn't want to hear Deanna talk about other men, especially those with ulterior motives.
Deanna's attention was indeed diverted.
"I've been recalling some scenes frequently lately, but they're still very vague. Master said it's because the blood clots in my brain haven't cleared up yet."
Just as she sent this message, her phone rang. It was a call from Landon.
Deanna was somewhat surprised but also expected it. She answered, "Hello, what's up?"
"Deanna, I stood up for you today. Although I didn't beat Lance, I did tarnish his reputation a bit. Just wait, I won't let Lance get away with it. As long as I'm here, no one can bully you!"
Landon spoke angrily.
Deanna felt complicated emotions.
She had already learned from Julia about Landon's feelings for her, but since Landon hadn't made it explicit and was just standing up for her as a friend, she didn't know what to say.
After thinking for a moment, she hesitated before saying thank you and then advised, "Actually, you don't need to do this. Between Lance and me, it's not what you think. It's just that we have some differences in beliefs."
