At the same time the two little ones were calling Landon, Deanna was being questioned by Julia.
"Deanna, did you really break up with Mr. Mercer?"
Her tone was filled with disbelief.
Deanna answered the call, unsurprised, and coldly replied, "Yes, we broke up. I don't want to talk about that man right now. If you're my friend, don't ask about it." Julia was left speechless.
She had many questions but couldn't help probing, "Not even one question?"
"No!" Deanna said firmly.
Her tone was so displeased that it seemed Julia would face her wrath if she asked another question.
Julia had no choice but to suppress her curiosity and changed the subject, concerned, "Where are you staying now? Do you have a place to live?"
"I'm staying at a hotel for now and looking for a place. Since you called, can you help me find one?" Deanna shared her current difficulties.
Julia agreed, knowing she wouldn't get any answers from Deanna. She hung up and turned to contact Lance.
Lance answered her call with a cold question, "What is it?"
Upon hearing this, Julia's initial anger dissipated instantly.
She cautiously asked, "Mr. Mercer, did you really break up with Deanna?"
"If it wasn't a real breakup, would it be a fake one? Do I look like I have that much free time?" Lance retorted irritably.
Julia was at a loss for words.
Then Lance hung up on her.
Following this, both Deanna and Lance received calls from friends and family expressing concern.
Like Julia, they couldn't believe it.
But after hanging up, everyone knew the breakup was real.
Gunner found out about it late at night.
Because things had been peaceful lately, he had started a research project and spent most of his time in the lab, except when treating Deanna.
When he heard the news from his subordinates, he was momentarily stunned.
"What did you just say?"
"Mr. Martinez, I said Miss Deanna and Mr. Mercer broke up. It seems quite serious."
The subordinate repeated the information.
Gunner's face immediately darkened. "Explain the details clearly."
"Yes!" The subordinate didn't dare slack off and reported everything he knew.
Upon hearing that Lance had thrown Deanna and Old Ashley's belongings out of the estate, Gunner's face turned icy. "Fine, very fine. Lance thinks I'm dead, huh? How dare he bully Deanna like this. Gather the men; we're going to the hospital!"
"Now? But it's already very late," the subordinate hesitated.
Gunner's cold eyes narrowed. "What, do I need to check if it's day or night to go trouble Lance?"
With that, the subordinate dared not say another word.
That very night, Gunner led a group of men to the hospital.
The nurse on duty recognized Gunner and saw the burly bodyguards behind him. She didn't dare speak up.
Thus, Gunner made his way unimpeded to Lance's ward door.
He kicked the door open, startling the nurse outside who didn't know whether to call the police or hide.
The only consolation for her was that Lance was the only patient in this VIP ward area; otherwise, she would have to calm other awakened patients.
Inside the ward, Lance faced off with Gunner and asked knowingly, "What brings you here so late?"
"What do you think?" Gunner's face was frosty. "Did you forget my warning? If you wrong Deanna, I won't let you off easily!"
Lance raised an eyebrow and defended himself, "First of all, I didn't wrong Deanna. On the contrary, she repeatedly harmed me. I just suggested she stay at a sanatorium for our safety. She refused and wanted to break up."
Hearing this, a gleam flashed in Gunner's eyes.
He had already suspected something was off about their breakup. Now hearing Lance's words, he was even more convinced there was something fishy about it.
But even so, he wasn't going to miss this chance to teach Lance a lesson.
"You've known about Deanna's condition for a while now. What changed? Are you saying she's dangerous now? Let me tell you, anyone who bullies someone from the Martinez family will face our revenge!"
With that, Gunner signaled his men.
Half an hour later, Gunner left the ward looking refreshed with his men in tow.
The nurse on duty hurried into the ward to check on Lance and found him lying on the floor covered in injuries. Her face turned pale.
"Mr. Mercer, are you alright?"
"Do I look alright? Go get me a doctor!" Lance struggled to stand up from the floor, cursing Gunner in his heart.
'Gunner is too much. He knew Deanna and I were only pretending to break up but still had his men hit me so hard!'
