Deanna listened to Lance's answer, her brows furrowed tightly as she asked, "Is this result from your investigation, or did Eula tell you this?"
"It's from my investigation."
Lance knew what Deanna was suspecting and answered truthfully.
Seeing Deanna deep in thought, he continued, "Those traitors were interrogated by me personally. They indeed have no connection with Eula."
However, Deanna had other thoughts.
"Is it possible that Eula knew about the traitors but used this to her advantage, leaked my information, and then had her people pretend to be traitors to cooperate with the real ones to kill me?"
She looked up at Lance as she finished speaking.
Lance squinted, considering the possibility.
He had trusted Eula deeply at the time and never suspected her, which gave Eula many opportunities to manipulate things.
Thinking of this, Lance's face darkened instantly.
Deanna noticed his change in expression and knew that what she said was likely true. She rolled her eyes and said, "I suddenly wonder if you genuinely didn't know Eula's intentions or if you were pretending not to know."
"I really didn't know. She never slipped up in front of me."
Lance quickly defended himself when he saw Deanna's displeased expression.
He also signaled Xavier to speak on his behalf. "Missus, Mr. Mercer truly didn't know Eula's intentions. Years ago, when Mr. Mercer knew Eula, his focus was on expanding his power. After returning to the country, their contact lessened and only occurred during major events."
Listening to their explanations, Deanna glanced at them and snorted, "Why are you so nervous?"
Lance held Deanna's hand and looked at her deeply. "I don't want you to have any misunderstandings about me."
Meeting his deep, dark eyes, Deanna almost got lost in them. She quickly withdrew her hand and looked away. "Don't waste time. Continue with what happened next."
Lance continued speaking.
Deanna used reverse thinking each time to solidify the suspicion on Eula.
Although these events seemed unrelated to Eula, she was always the biggest beneficiary behind each success.
"But these are just our speculations. We don't have any concrete evidence."
Xavier summarized.
This was also a problem that had troubled him and Lance for a long time.
Deanna didn't see it as a problem and said coldly, "If we don't have evidence, we'll create it. Although I don't have my past memories, through these few encounters, I have some understanding of Eula. She's a vengeful person who will stop at nothing to achieve her goals. As long as we bait her, I don't believe she won't reveal herself!"
"No, I won't allow you to take risks!"
Lance thought Deanna intended to risk herself and immediately objected.
Deanna looked at him helplessly. "Let me finish. I'm not planning to take risks. I just think we can lure the mastermind out appropriately."
"What do you mean?"
Lance didn't understand and looked at her in confusion.
Xavier also looked at Deanna curiously.
Facing their gazes, Deanna explained, "We pretend to argue and break up. No one else should know except the three of us. If Eula really wants to kill me, she will act once she's sure we've broken up because she wouldn't want my presence to affect you."
"So you still plan to risk yourself. I disagree!"
Lance objected again.
Deanna frowned and persuaded, "I know you're worried about me, but trust me, I'm not as weak as you think. I have many good things on me. I guarantee that woman won't get close to me. Besides, if we don't deal with her now, she'll remain a ticking time bomb. If she isn't dealt with by the time I give birth, I'm worried she'll strike when I'm weak or even transfer her hatred to our child!"
"She dares!" Lance shouted angrily.
Deanna rolled her eyes and continued, "She's already tried to kill me multiple times. What else wouldn't she dare? Besides, I still have weaknesses in her hands."
These words finally convinced Lance.
No one knew how much time had passed when suddenly there was the sound of something being thrown in the hospital room.
Then came Deanna's angry voice.
"Lance, don't go too far! I told you it wasn't intentional. What more do you want?"
"Is this your attitude when admitting mistakes? I don't want to see you right now. Get out!"
"Fine! I'll leave! Lance, don't regret it. When you beg me later, I won't come back!"
"That goes for you too! If you listen to me now and follow Xavier for a check-up, there might still be a chance for us. Otherwise, I won't keep you by my side!"
