Xavier looked anxious as he faced the others and quickly replied, "We're not sure about the specifics yet. The doctors are still inside trying to save him."
Upon hearing this, Deanna, Logan, and Samantha's worries became even more apparent.
Deanna blamed herself even more and began hitting her own forehead with her hand.
"How could something like this happen? Why do I have no recollection of it at all?"
"Deanna, please don't blame yourself!"
Logan and Samantha were startled by Deanna's actions.
Samantha immediately stepped forward to stop Deanna and comforted her, "We know it wasn't intentional on your part. Please don't do this, you might hurt yourself."
Little did they know, the more Samantha tried to console Deanna, the more she blamed herself.
Logan also noticed her inner struggle and joined in persuading Deanna.
"Deanna, we all know that it's not your fault. Someone plotted against you before you lost your memory. They placed a mental suggestion on you that could control you. We had already caught that person, but a series of events happened afterwards. Coupled with your pregnancy, we could only wait until after you gave birth to remove that suggestion. However, we didn't expect that someone else could activate the mental suggestion on you."
Upon hearing this, Deanna's expression immediately turned serious.
"Why didn't I know anything about all of this?"
"Mr. Mercer thought that once the culprit was caught and you were no longer in danger, it would be better not to worry you with these details."
Xavier spoke up for Lance.
Hearing this, Deanna felt a mix of emotions and didn't know what to say.
It was Logan who looked at Xavier with a frown and asked, "If the person behind all this was caught, how is it possible that someone can still activate the mental suggestion on Deanna? Did you not handle it properly?"
Xavier thought it was highly possible when he saw Logan's reaction.
"Mr. Mercer, I want to go back and interrogate Duncan."
"Go ahead, we'll be here."
Logan immediately agreed.
Soon, Xavier bid farewell to everyone.
As they watched him walk away, Deanna actually wanted to follow him, but she couldn't leave Lance behind and decided to visit later.
Time passed by minute by minute.
After about an hour, the closed doors of the emergency room finally opened.
Doctors and nurses wheeled Lance out.
Logan, Samantha, and Deanna hurriedly approached them with concern. "Doctor, how is our son doing?"
"Is Lance okay?"
Deanna also looked at the doctor with concern.
The doctor glanced at them and truthfully replied, "Although the patient had deep wounds, they didn't affect any internal organs. As long as the wound doesn't get infected, he can be discharged from the hospital in a week."
Upon hearing this, Logan, Samantha, and Deanna all breathed a sigh of relief.
They then followed the nurse to the hospital room.
Once everything was settled, another half hour passed.
Logan and Samantha realized it was getting late and thought about Deanna being pregnant. They persuaded her, "Deanna, you should go back and rest. We'll take care of Lance here. Don't worry, your health is important, especially since you're carrying a baby. You shouldn't stay up late."
"Aunt and Uncle, I want to stay here and take care of Lance."
Deanna shook her head and declined their kind offer, instead suggesting they go back and rest earlier.
After saying that, she turned and went to the bathroom to fetch a basin of warm water, intending to clean Lance's body.
Logan and Samantha knew they couldn't change her mind and exchanged a glance.
Finally, Samantha said, "Then we'll go back first. Later on, I'll have someone bring you some fresh clothes. Take care of yourself."
Deanna acknowledged with a response and continued to wipe Lance's body.
She did it with great care, so she didn't notice when Logan and Samantha left.
After cleaning Lance's body, Deanna stood by the bed and looked at his pale face due to excessive blood loss, her eyes filled with heartache.
"I'm sorry," she whispered softly.
However, the man on the bed didn't react at all.
Deanna didn't know what he was thinking and silently watched him.
She didn't know how much time had passed when someone knocked on the door of the hospital room. Sam's voice came through, "Missus, can I come in?"
"Come in."
As soon as Deanna finished speaking, Sam walked into the room carrying a package.
He saw Deanna and glanced at the bloodstains on her clothes without showing any surprise. He then handed her the package in his hand. "Missus, Mrs. Mercer asked me to pack your clothes for you."
"Thank you for your trouble. How is everything at home?"
Deanna took the package and asked with concern.
Sam didn't hide anything and truthfully replied, "When Mr. and Mrs. Mercer returned home, Master Gregory and Miss Chloe were already asleep. Mrs. Mercer asked me to tell you not to worry about home; they will take good care of Master Gregory and Miss Chloe. She also wants you to rest well in the hospital."
Deanna nodded in understanding.
At this moment, Sam expressed his concern, "Is Mr. Lance okay?"
