Because of Craig's coma, the competition was paused and would resume the next day when Craig woke up.
Soon, everyone dispersed.
Deanna followed Gunner back to the main courtyard for further detoxification.
In less than half an hour, the remaining toxins in her body were cleared, but she felt somewhat weak.
"Go back and rest. There are two more competitions tomorrow. You need to be well-rested to handle them better," Gunner said, waving his hand to signal Deanna to leave.
However, Deanna didn't move. Instead, she looked at him with a burning gaze.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Gunner raised an eyebrow and asked.
Deanna chuckled and then probed, "Master, did you deliberately anger Craig into fainting?"
After all, given her master's gentle nature, he wouldn't normally say such infuriating things.
Gunner looked at the curious light in his disciple's eyes and said calmly, "It seems you still have energy left. Let's continue seeing the steward."
As he spoke, he called out for Jagger.
"Wait, Master, I suddenly feel a pain in my chest. It must be that the toxins weren't completely cleared. I'll go back to my room and take some more detoxifying medicine," Deanna quickly interrupted, clutching her chest as she exited the room.
She was joking; if she did as her master said, she wouldn't get any rest today.
Back in her room, Deanna collapsed onto the bed in exhaustion.
Before long, she fell into a deep sleep.
She slept until the sun set outside and woke up slowly.
Just as she was about to sit up, she heard two cheerful voices by her ear.
"Mommy, you're awake."
"Mommy, do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?"
The two little ones looked at Deanna with concern.
Old Ashley heard the commotion and approached with care. "You're awake. Have some water first. You must be thirsty after sleeping for so long."
She handed over a cup of water.
Deanna weakly thanked her and took a couple of sips before asking, "Why are you all here?"
"When we returned from our afternoon outing, we heard that you were competing in detoxification with someone from the Martinez family's main branch. We were worried and came over, only to find you asleep and unresponsive. We were concerned something might have happened to you, so we asked your master to come and check. He said you were just weak and had fallen into a deep sleep, but we stayed here just in case," Old Ashley explained briefly and then looked at her with concern. "How do you feel? Should we call your master to check on you again?"
"No need, I'm fine now," Deanna gently shook her head in refusal.
Being a doctor herself, she was well aware of her physical condition.
Seeing that she was indeed fine, the two little ones and Old Ashley finally breathed a sigh of relief.
After chatting for a while longer, Jagger knocked on the door with the servants outside.
"Lady Ashley, dinner is ready. Shall we bring it in?"
"Come in," Old Ashley responded.
Jagger entered with the servants.
Noticing that Deanna was awake, he greeted her respectfully, "Miss."
"Jagger, how is that boy Craig doing?" Deanna asked curiously.
Jagger replied truthfully, "I heard he woke up, but his condition doesn't seem optimistic. It's uncertain if he can compete tomorrow."
"I think he will compete," Deanna said confidently. She didn't believe Craig would give up the competition. After all, the longer this dragged on, the worse it would be for him. Her apprenticeship ceremony was only a few days away.
After dinner, Deanna still felt weak and began to feel sleepy again.
Seeing this, Old Ashley took the two little ones and left to let Deanna rest early.
Meanwhile, Lance finally finished his social engagements and called Deanna, wanting to hear her voice.
However, Shannon answered and told him, "Mr. Mercer, Missus is resting. How about I tell her to contact you when she wakes up tomorrow?"
"What happened?" Lance immediately sensed something was wrong from Shannon's tone. Moreover, this wasn't Deanna's usual resting time.
Realizing that her boss had guessed something was amiss, Shannon didn't hide it and explained what had happened during the competition.
Lance's face darkened with worry for Deanna after hearing this.
"Are you sure all the toxins in Deanna's body have been cleared?" he couldn't help but ask again.
"Mr. Martinez and Missus both said the detoxification was complete. There shouldn't be any problems," Shannon replied.
"I understand. Take good care of Missus," Lance said before hanging up and dialing Gunner's number.
Gunner wasn't surprised to receive his call and said calmly, "I was wondering when you'd call me. So you've heard about Deanna's competition?"
"I don't want today's incident to happen again. If you want Deanna to take over the Martinez family, deal with those troublesome people yourself. If you can't do it, I don't mind stepping in!"
