After hearing her subordinate's suggestion, Eula thought it was a pretty good idea.
She nodded and instructed, "Then follow Emily's plan and make a big scene out of it!"
"Yes," her confidant nodded and left to carry out the order.
The next morning, at Mia's villa.
Emily held a press conference.
Many journalists attended, filling the living room to capacity.
"What do you think Emily is going to announce at this press conference?"
"I'm not sure, but I heard her mother just passed away, and no one from the Howard family attended the funeral. Could she be announcing a divorce?"
"I think it's very likely. I've heard that Emily and Mr. Howard have been at odds for a while now."
The journalists whispered among themselves.
Their voices were loud enough for Emily to hear from upstairs.
She looked down at the people below with a blank expression, holding a file folder in her hand, which contained crucial evidence for today.
"Miss Jones, it's about time. You can go down now."
A sharp-dressed man stood behind Emily, reminding her.
He was an assistant sent by Duncan to help Emily. However, he was also there to monitor her, to prevent another incident like Raphael's.
Emily was unaware of this; she thought the mysterious person just wanted her plan to succeed.
She nodded lightly and walked downstairs.
As she appeared, the previously chattering journalists all turned to look at her. "Here she comes, here comes the main character."
"Why does Emily look more haggard and disheveled than usual today?"
"Her mother just died; she's grieving. Of course, she looks worn out."
"Stop discussing, Emily is about to speak."
Someone shouted, and the journalists fell silent.
Emily's cold voice echoed in the living room, "Thank you all for taking the time to attend my press conference. Today, I have two main things to announce. First, as you all know, my mother has passed away. But do you know how she died? She was murdered!"
Tears welled up in her eyes as she spoke, making her look extremely sorrowful and angry.
The journalists were shocked by her words.
"Miss Jones, has the murderer been caught?"
"The murderer has been caught, but the accomplice has not!"
Emily choked out the words.
Without waiting for further questions, she took a deep breath and continued, "There's no point in asking who the accomplice is because even if I tell you, it won't matter. The other party has powerful backing. As for the murderer of my mother, it was my father. This is something I never expected."
At this point, she broke down in tears.
The journalists exchanged glances; this revelation truly surprised them.
However, they were more curious about who the accomplice was.
"Miss Jones, if you are holding this press conference to seek justice for your mother, then I believe you should fearlessly reveal who the accomplice is. No matter how powerful their backing is, they can't be above the law."
"That's right, Miss Jones. Don't be afraid to speak up. With so many of us here to support you, what do you have to fear?"
"Yes, yes, Miss Jones, just tell us."
The journalists urged Emily.
Emily shook her head as if she hadn't heard them. "I can't say. I have no evidence. I only know that my mother's death is related to her, but I have no proof."
Hearing that there was no evidence, the journalists' expressions grew serious.
Someone then said, "Miss Jones, tell us what happened. We can help you analyze it; maybe we can find some evidence."
"Can you really find evidence?"
Emily looked over expectantly.
The person nodded. "If someone committed a crime, there will definitely be evidence!"
Hearing this, Emily seemed to make a firm decision and looked determined.
"Then I'll tell you. You all know I have a half-sister. You should be familiar with her; she used to appear in the news often. In recent years, my mother and I have had worsening relations with her. She always suspected that my mother and I had something to do with her mother's death and has been looking for evidence to avenge her mother. But the police had already thoroughly investigated back then; her mother committed suicide because she couldn't handle the scandal..."
She twisted the facts about her feud with Deanna, even blurring some previously exposed details to make herself appear sympathetic.
Finally, she brought the topic back to her mother's death. "My mother had annual check-ups and was perfectly healthy. But ever since she was frightened at home last time, she hasn't been herself."
The journalists were astonished and started discussing again.
"So Deanna is indeed highly suspicious."
"And how could a perfectly healthy person suddenly go mad? There must be more to this."
"Miss Jones, did you have a doctor examine your mother's condition?"
