"Perhaps it's because you didn't put much effort into it. But anyway, we've partly revenged your mom," Lance comforted Deanna.
Deanna nodded and said, "Now, only Emily, the real murderer, is unpunished. Unfortunately, we don't have enough evidence."
"It's okay. Even without evidence, given Emily's personality, she won't stay quiet. We just need to wait for the right moment," Lance reassured Deanna.
In fact, he was right. Since leaving the Howard Group yesterday, Emily had been planning something. She just needed an opportunity.
At this moment, Emily was in her mother's funeral, staring silently at her mother's coffin. After an unknown amount of time, the sound of a car engine came from outside.
A group of men and women, both old and young, walked in. The elderly lady leading the group saw the portrait in the mourning hall and immediately broke down in tears.
"Mia, how could you leave so young? How am I supposed to live without you?" The grieving elderly lady was none other than Mia's mother and Emily's grandmother, Ciara.
The others saw Ciara crying and began to console her.
"Auntie, please be strong. Even without Mia, you still have your granddaughter. She won't abandon you."
"Emily, come over and comfort your grandmother. Don't let her be too sad."
"Grandma, don't be sad. Even though Aunt is gone, you have Emily. She is the mistress of the Howard family and has plenty of money to take care of you."
Emily found the scene before her noisy, especially when she heard them talking about her wealth. It made her feel irritated. She had never interacted much with her mother's family; her mother usually dealt with them.
"Enough! I called you here because my mom often mentioned you all. She must have valued you a lot, so I wanted you to pay your respects to her, not to cause a commotion!" She pointed to the coffin beside her and coldly said, "Except for Grandma, each of you should pay respects to my mom."
Her words silenced the relatives. However, some of them still looked around.
Later, after paying their respects to Mia, the group followed Emily to the villa's living room.
During this time, someone couldn't help but ask, "Emily, why don't we see your husband Mr. Howard? Isn't he coming for such an important event as your mother's funeral?"
Emily didn't respond but gave a cold look. The person who asked felt a chill and muttered, "Why not tell us?"
Despite the question, everyone couldn't help but speculate in their hearts. They wondered if Emily had a bad relationship with the Howard family; otherwise, why wouldn't they attend Mia's funeral?
Ciara also thought of this but didn't dare to ask due to Emily's grim expression. Instead, she inquired about Mia.
"Your mother was fine before. What happened? Did something occur?"
As soon as she finished speaking, everyone else perked up their ears to hear how Mia died.
Emily didn't hide the truth. After all, her grandmother deserved to know.
In a flat tone, she said, "My mom was killed by Garrett. That man somehow found out my mom was mentally unstable and came to extort money from her. In the struggle, he pushed her into the edge of a coffee table, fracturing her skull and causing her death."
There were several gasps at this revelation. They hadn't expected that Mia's death was caused by Emily's father.
Ciara was furious. "That beast! How could he do that to Mia?!"
"Did they catch Garrett? What did the police say? Is there any compensation? Emily, if there's compensation, you can't hide it. This money will be your grandmother's support in her old age."
"I remember Garrett has another daughter who is with a wealthy man. We must make them pay. The father's debt should be repaid by the child; we mustn't let them off easily."
"That's right. We can't let them off easily. If it weren't for that woman's mother using underhanded means to interfere with your mother's relationship with Garrett back then, your mother wouldn't have been Garrett's mistress for so many years. And you wouldn't have been called an illegitimate child when you were young."
In the end, they all urged Emily to seek compensation from Deanna.
Emily was indeed tempted. She had been looking for an opportunity to tarnish Deanna's reputation. This might be it.
However, she needed to plan carefully to maximize her benefits from this situation. After all, this could be her leverage if she ever divorced Raphael.
