Chapter 70 – It had to be mine!

GABRIEL.

Kira didn’t realize I saw her across the street watching us. Maybe that’s why I left with Maddie. I could feel her heart breaking from a distance.

I thought I understood the world. I thought I knew right from wrong, truth from lies. But then came the trial. The evidence, the testimonies, the verdict. It shattered my beliefs, my confidence. Everything that had happened since then confused me.

Every day I regretted more and more that I had left Kira so far behind. We were so close once, sharing our dreams, our fears, our love. But then I got caught up in the trial, the media frenzy, the public opinion and snatching her daughter away from her. But now, as I look back, I realize how wrong I was. Kira was my anchor, my rock. She was the one who knew me inside out, who believed in me even when no one else did. And I let her go.

It was time to do something about it. To reach out to her, to explain, to apologize. I didn’t know if she would forgive me, if we could ever go back to how things were. But I had to try. Because the wounds in our hearts would never heal if I didn’t.

I got scared, nervous, unsure. But I knew I had to do it. For me, for Kira, for us. Because sometimes, the only way to find clarity in confusion is to confront it head-on.

As I stood at the edge of town, gazing up at the imposing Hollow Peak looming over it, I couldn’t help but marvel at how breathtakingly beautiful it was. The mountain, with its jagged peaks and snow-capped summit, looked like a giant diamond sparkling in the sunlight. And the town at its foot, nestled in the valley, was equally enchanting, with its charming houses and cozy streets.

As winter approached, the town was putting on its holiday clothes, and it looked even more magical than usual. They lined the streets with twinkling lights and colorful decorations, and it filled the air with the sweet scent of hot cocoa and roasted chestnuts. It was a scene straight out of a storybook, and I couldn’t help but feel grateful to be here to witness it.

But as I gazed out at the town, my thoughts inevitably turned to Kira, the woman who had captured my heart so completely. I remembered the day she had practically run away from me and taken refuge in Hollow Peak with her family. It had devastated me, feeling like I had lost her forever.

But I couldn’t stay away from her. I had followed her here and accepted the role of her imaginary fiancé just so I could be near her. It was a risky move, but it was worth it to be with her. And over time, our relationship had blossomed into something real, something that went far beyond the imaginary.

I remembered the nights we spent together, kissing passionately and whispering sweet nothings to each other. And I remembered the night I made her mine, when we became one in body and soul. It was a night that would stay with me forever, a night of passion and love that I would never forget.

As I stood there, lost in my memories, I realized that this town and this mountain held a special place in my heart. They were the backdrop to so many of my happiest moments, the scenes of my greatest joys and triumphs. And as the winter set in, and the holiday season approached, I knew that there would be many more memories to come, memories that I would cherish for a lifetime.

Now more than ever, I had to have my refuge here. Mine and Maddie’s. And who knew what surprises life would bring?

It had been years since I last set foot in Hollow Peak, but the memories of this town had always stayed with me. It was where I found and understood love, where I made family, and where I learned some of the most important lessons of my life.

And now, as I stood here, looking at the familiar streets and houses, I couldn’t help but feel that it was time to invest in a home here. Hollow Peak had always been my goal, and it felt like the town was opening its doors to me again.

The community was thriving, and there was renewed energy in the air. New businesses were popping up, and the local schools were among the best in the state. Maddie would have a future here. I knew I could build a glorious life here, just like so many others had before me.

But it was not just the practicalities that were drawing me back to Hollow Peak. It was the feeling of being home, of belonging somewhere. I knew that if I invested in a home here, I would be part of something special. I could walk down the street and see familiar faces, and I could contribute to the community in my own way.

Kira’s family was here too, so that’s the reason I needed to move here. They needed to know that I never played with Kira’s feelings and that I loved her.

So here I was, standing in the middle of Hollow Peak, feeling like everything was falling into place. I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but I also knew that it would be worth it. This town had given me so much in the past, and I couldn’t wait to see what it had in store for me in the future.

“Hi, welcome to Hollow Peak! I’m John, your real estate agent. It’s great finally to meet you in person.” the agent said coming closer with his hand stretched out to me.

“Hi John, nice to meet you too. Thanks for meeting me here today.” I said, shaking hands with him.

“No problem at all. So, are you excited to see the house?” he asked.

“Yes, definitely. I’m looking forward to seeing it.” I said enthusiastically.

“Great! This way, please.”

John drove me to his car and together we drove straight to the house offered for sale.

“Here we are,” he said as we got out of the car. “What do you think of the exterior?”

“It looks nice, very charming. I like the brickwork.” I marveled gazing at its architecture.

“Yes, it’s a beautiful house. Let’s head inside.” He added, and led me inside the house through the front entrance.

As I stepped into the house, its beauty immediately struck me. The space was open and inviting, with high ceilings and large windows that flooded the room with natural light. The floors were made of a rich, warm wood that seemed to glow in the sunlight. The walls were painted in soft, muted colors that created a calming and peaceful atmosphere.

“This is the living room,” John said. “As you can see, it’s quite spacious and gets a lot of natural light,” he continued.

I marveled at the exquisite details that were everywhere. The craftsmen intricately designed the crown molding, and they perfectly finished the baseboards. They crafted the door frames and window sills from high-quality wood, carefully selecting it to match the rest of the house.

“I love the large windows. They really make the room feel bright and open.” I said.

“Yes, and the fireplace is a delicate touch, too. Now, let’s head to the kitchen.” he said and led the way.

A chef would love the kitchen. They made the counter tops of a beautiful stone that was both durable and stylish, and they crafted the cabinets of solid wood expertly. The appliances were all top-of-the-line, with a large refrigerator, a professional-grade oven, and a spacious dishwasher.

The kitchen has gone through recent renovations, offering a fresh and updated look. It has new appliances and granite countertops.”

“Wow, the kitchen is stunning. I can see myself cooking up a storm in here.” I said and smiled at the corner of my mouth.

“That’s great to hear,” he said and grinned. “Now, let’s check out the bedrooms.”

He again led the way. “This is the master bedroom. It has an en suite bathroom and a walk-in closet.”

The bedrooms were just as impressive. The master bedroom was large and luxurious, with a huge walk-in closet and a bathroom that had a spa-like feel. All the other bedrooms were quite spacious and comfortable, with an abundance of closet space and wide windows providing stunning views of the encompassing area.

“The bedroom is a good size and the walk-in closet is a huge plus.” I said, looming around.

“Absolutely. And there are two additional bedrooms down the hall with a shared bathroom.” John added.

As I explored the rest of the house, I fell more and more in love with it. The living room was cozy and inviting, with a fireplace that would be perfect for curling up in front of on a chilly night. The dining room was elegant and sophisticated, with plenty of space for hosting dinner parties. Just what I needed.

“Now, let’s head outside to the backyard.” John said and headed outside. “The backyard is quite large and has a beautiful garden. It’s perfect for entertaining guests”

“The garden is beautiful. I can see myself hosting barbecues here during the summer.” I said.

“Definitely. The backyard is a dominant feature of this house.”

“Overall, I’m really impressed with the house. It has everything I’m looking for.” I concluded, satisfied.

“I’m glad to hear that. Would you like to take another look, or do you have questions?”

“No questions at all. I am in for a buy”

I couldn’t help but imagine myself living in this house, waking up every morning to the beautiful views and spending lazy afternoons curled up with a book in the sun-drenched living room.

This house felt like home to me, and I knew I had to make it mine. Mine and Maddie’s.
