I woke up at about 11 am on the saturday and went through my usual morning routine. As i looked myself over in the mirror i saw the same gold fleck in my eyes that i had seen once before. It seemed to shine almost like a dull glow making my normal blue eyes appear a bright almost neon blue like my eyes had been lit up. I paused for a moment looking at my eyes until they returned o normal. This cant have taken more than about 5 minutes, i was a little shaken but stil kept putting it down to the fact i was now about 2 weeks sleep deprived. I ran the shower and as normal had to adjust the setting so it was just right for me. I stood washing myself as i thought about these weird things that were happening and the weird feelings i felt surging through my body whenever i saw abbey.
As i got out the shower and got dressed i heard my sister making noise as usual down the hall. Every saturday she would have a friend over and they would try complete dance challenges they had found online. This helped me slightly as it meant i didnt have to put up with my sister and could actually have breakfast in peace. My mum as always had left a note on the fridge with a list of things she would like done before she got home that evening from work. They were pretty normal things like bedrooms tidied and washing sorted into the correct baskets so she could just put it on. At the bottom she had also left a personal message for me
“ i hope your date with abbey goes well i have left some bits in the fridge for you to take x”
I smiled to myself as i read this, just like my mum to go above and beyond. I opened the fridge and found she had made sandwiches some sausage rolls and even some little snack type bits.i took all the bits that were labelled chris picnic and put them into a bag as i filled up my water bottle with squash and grabbed a couple of plastic cups before heading towards the park. As i was walking i noticed abbey leaving the flats my heart jumped for joy, her hair was different today. She had died a strip of her hair blue and as i got closer she waved at me and spoke softly as always.
“Hi chris im ready for the picnic, do yo like my hair btw, i know its not allowed at school but my mum doesnt mind and i thought it looked cool.”
I smiled and shrugged my shoulders as i replied .
“Yeah i like it and i cant wait either.”
We continued through the rest of the estate before we reached the large open area. We headed towards the end where the park was as their where planty of benches for us to sit on. As we got closer we crossed different groups of slightly older teens who were sitting around and drinking and smoking. We found a bench that was away from some of them. A larger teen came over to us just as we sat at the bench. My breath caught in my throat as i saw the familiar figure of josh johnstone, he was the most popular year 11 and often found joy in bullying and teasing the younger years. He was a large gaunt figure with blonde hair and green eyes. Most of the younger girls including my sister fancied him and he knew it. He placed a hand on the table between me and abbey as he took a drag froma cigarette, he spoke and his voice seemed louder than normal
“ how bout you ditch this zero and come chill with us, your kinda cute and i can see me and you having a lot of fun. Plus this guy is a loser why would you want to be associated with him ?”
I felt my entire body tense as he said this and my fist clenched under the table. I stood up abruptly my whole body shaking with both rage and anxiety.
