Chapter 209: My water broke
**Seven Months Later: Chaos, Naturally**
Seraphina Hale had been through countless life-threatening situations.
She had faced assassins, planned impossible missions, taken down entire organizations, and outmaneuvered people who thought they could outsmart her.
She had done all of that without breaking a sweat.
But nothing had prepared her for this moment.
For childbirth.
Or, more specifically—
For the moment her water broke in the most ridiculous way possible.
Damon was standing in the kitchen, fully convinced he had everything under control.
The hospital bag was packed.
The car was ready.
The house was prepped.
All they had to do was wait for Seraphina to say it was time.
So, naturally, when it finally happened—
He wasn’t ready at all.
Seraphina was standing in the living room, holding a bowl of ice cream, when it happened.
One second, everything was fine.
The next—
A very specific feeling hit her, and she froze.
She blinked down at the floor.
Then at her now-empty ice cream bowl.
Then at Damon, who was sipping his coffee, completely oblivious.
And then—
In the most Seraphina Hale way possible, she calmly announced:
"Well, that just happened."
Damon, still unaware, raised a brow.
"What happened?"
Seraphina glanced down.
Then back at him.
"My water broke."
Damon took a sip of his coffee.
Paused.
Lowered the mug very slowly.
And then—
"You’re kidding."
Seraphina shrugged. "Do I look like I’m kidding?"
Damon stared.
Then stared harder.
Then absolute panic set in.
"Oh, shit. Oh, shit. Oh, shit—"
Damon jumped into action.
By which he meant he started doing five different things at once and accomplishing absolutely nothing.
"Where’s the bag?" he muttered. "Do we have the keys? Where’s Alex? Should we call an ambulance? No, wait—we have a car. Right. We have a car."
Seraphina sighed. "Damon."
Damon, now in full-on meltdown mode, grabbed his phone.
"Should I call Liam? No, he’s useless. Zayn? No, he’ll just make jokes. James—no, absolutely not. Orion?"
Seraphina rolled her eyes. "Damon."
Damon kept rambling.
"Okay, okay, we trained for this—we didn’t train for this. Damn it, I should’ve run drills. Where are my shoes?"
Seraphina, watching him lose his mind, finally had enough.
She whistled sharply.
Damon froze.
She gave him a flat look.
"Are you done?"
Damon blinked.
"… No?"
Seraphina sighed. "Get the car, Hale."
Damon nodded very quickly and rushed out the door.
And just like that—
It was officially time.
By the time they arrived, Alexandra was already waiting.
As Seraphina was wheeled into a private room, Alex gave Damon a knowing look.
"You’re freaking out, aren’t you?"
Damon, still pacing, scoffed. "No. I’m fine."
Alexandra tilted her head. "You just tried to put your jacket on backwards."
Damon paused.
Looked down.
And realized his arms were inside the wrong holes.
He grumbled.
"Shut up."
Alex smirked. "That’s what I thought."
Seraphina had been through war zones.
This was worse.
Because no one had given her the real details about childbirth.
No one had told her it would be this damn painful.
"How the hell," she gritted out, "do people do this more than once?"
Alex, standing over her, completely unfazed, smirked.
"Trust me, you’ll forget the pain in a few months."
Seraphina glared.
"I don’t believe you."
Alexandra chuckled. "You will."
Damon, holding onto Seraphina’s hand, looked like he was either about to pass out or commit homicide.
"Why does this look so painful?" he muttered.
Alex raised a brow. "Did you think it was easy?"
Damon, absolutely not prepared for any of this, swallowed hard.
Seraphina, still in the worst pain of her life, squeezed his hand so hard he actually winced.
"Holy shit," he muttered.
Alex smirked. "She’s handling it better than you are."
Damon, offended, scowled.
"I am handling this perfectly fine."
Seraphina gasped through the contraction.
"If you pass out, I’m divorcing you."
Damon, absolutely serious, muttered—
"Noted."
After what felt like hours, after pain and chaos and Damon cursing every single one of their friends for never properly warning him—
A cry filled the room.
A tiny, fierce, perfect cry.
And just like that—
She was here.
Seraphina, exhausted, sweaty, barely able to keep her eyes open, felt the weight of her daughter being placed on her chest.
And for the first time in her life—
She was speechless.
Damon, frozen, breathless, completely wrecked, just stared.
Then, slowly, he reached out—
Brushed his fingers against the tiny fist curled up against Seraphina’s skin.
"She’s so small," he muttered.
Seraphina huffed out a weak laugh.
"You expected her to come out full-grown?"
Damon, still shell-shocked, shook his head.
"No. I just—"
He exhaled.
"She’s perfect."
Seraphina, finally looking up at him, smiled.
"Yeah," she whispered. "She is."
Later, when things had settled, when the nurses had checked over the baby and Damon was finally sitting beside Seraphina on the hospital bed, their daughter cradled between them—
It was time for a name.
They had talked about it before.
Thrown ideas around.
But now?
Looking at her—their daughter, their tiny, fierce, beautiful creation—
Only one name felt right.
Seraphina traced a finger along her daughter’s cheek, eyes heavy with exhaustion but filled with something deeper.
"Lilith," she murmured.
Damon, watching her carefully, tilted his head.
"Angel name," he muttered. "But dark."
Seraphina smirked.
"Like us."
Damon chuckled, looking down at their daughter.
"Lilith Hale," he whispered.
And the second he said it—
It was decided.
Lilith.
Fierce. Strong. A name that carried power and defiance.
A name worthy of her.
And as Damon pressed a kiss to Seraphina’s temple, their daughter sleeping soundly in her arms—
They both knew.
Their lives had just changed forever.
And they wouldn’t have it any other way.
