It was Monday night and I haven’t slept since Thursday I’ve been working non stop I even had my new assistant to work over the weekend or should I say Sunday as I only appointed him on Saturday. I sent him home today at 6 pm I promised him I will go home and get some sleep but it was 10 pm and I’m still at work, Mel and Anton has moved into the new place everything there was going very quickly on my side it was one fucked up after another, my father really fucked us royally, how he ever thought he would get us out of this I don’t know at least I have new eyes and new contacts and they were willing to help. At 11 pm my phone rang, I looked at the caller ID and immediately got a pit in my stomach. It was Coop and this only means something is wrong with Jojo. After I snapped at him a few times I finally kept quiet long enough to find out what happened. She’s in hospital because she’s dehydrated which means she was still vomiting when I left and couldn’t hold anything down. Fuck I should have never left. I wanted to go to her so bad but Coop was right if I go now, it will just be a vicious cycle and this will happen when I leave again. I need sleep to think clearly. My heart is telling me get on the first flight out of Housten my head was telling me to trust my friends. Eventually I agreed with Coop said goodbye closed my laptop grab my jacket and walked out of the office.
Because I was doing exactly the same as what Jojo did but I was burying myself in work and I haven’t eaten anything healthy or slept since I left her. This was my wake-up call as well. I need to look after myself as well. What if something they can’t control happens and I can’t be there because I burned out. When I walked into the house I could smell there was food in the kitchen. I walked that way only to find Mel still in the kitchen. “You came home.” She said with a smile. “I did.” I wanted to tell her about Jojo but I wasn’t sure I should. She got some hot pot roast and vegetables out of the oven. “This smells delicious Mel.” “Thank you Benji.” “Can I get you something to drink with that?” “Just a glass of water please.” When she put the glass down, she said. “Well then I’m going to bed.” “Sleep well.” “You to.” It was on the tip of my tongue but I didn’t tell her she will just be as worried as I was.

The OBGYN came probable at midnight I was dozing off in the chair. “John.” She said softly. “Oh, doc how are you?” “What are you doing here?” “Benji is back home.” “Oh, is that why he paid me for the delivery and everything?” “Yes, it’s a long story but Jojo here is starting a new life. That’s all I can say, not my story to tell.” “I understand but someone will have to keep an eye on her she can’t do this again. I’m surprise the fetus didn’t die; this is severe dehydration John.” “So, the baby is, okay?” “Yes, I don’t know if it will be good or bad news for her?” Jojo opened her eyes “John?” She asked “Yes Jojo it’s me and doctor Young.” “Dr Young where am I?” “You’re in hospital you are severely dehydrated, if John here didn’t find you when he did, I don’t know what would have happened.” “And the baby is the baby okay?” It’s the first time I hear her even acknowledging the baby. “You can be very grateful the baby is still okay. What where you thinking?” She dropped her head, and started to cry. I didn’t know what to do. So, I stood next to her and held her shoulder. “I was so sick since dinner at your house John, I couldn’t stop vomiting and then the next day the morning sickness got me just by the smell of coffee and after that I just couldn’t get anything in me.” “I do understand the morning sickness Jojo but you will have to drink more fluids and you need to eat.” “I can’t.” “You have to or the baby will suffer and you will suffer from malnutrition. You can’t end up in hospital the whole time.” “No, I can’t I don’t have the money for this and oh shit sorry John it was my first shift I’m so sorry I dropped you.” “Don’t worry about that now okay.” “Anything else doc?” I asked because she was going hard on Jojo. “I need to see you in two weeks just to make sure everything is going okay after this.” She said looking at all the drips. “I’ll do better doctor.” “You don’t have to do better for me Jojo you have to do better for you and the baby. Remember you are not alone anymore you have someone you have to look after although he or she is not born yet it’s your duty to feed them, which means you need to eat.” “I hear you I’m sorry.” “Well then see you in two weeks, I’m sure the hospital will discharge you in a day or two, just to make sure you are hydrated before you go.”
As soon as the doctor left Jojo tried to get the trips out of her. “Hey what are you doing?” I asked her shocked, after the speech she just got from the doctor. “I’m leaving I can’t stay here John I don’t have the money.” “Jojo don’t worry about it okay.” “No, I have to pay my own way.” “I’ll pay the hospital bill just leave the drips in if you know how they struggled to get them in.” “I can’t let you pay the bill?” “Yes, you can.” “Okay but I’ll pay you back.” “If that is what you want to do then fine, we’ll see it as a loan.”
