Chapter 20 Chapter 20
Jojo
I couldn’t believe he actually remembered I had an exam today not even my parents cared. But I also saw that I wasn’t going to get out of this night without talking about Morne and about Mrs. Devon. I was really not looking forward to this conversation. I had to admit something though when he touched me, I could feel electricity shoot through my whole body not something I ever felt with Morne that was weird wasn’t it? The driver stopped in front of Mastro’s Steakhouse, my favorite, my mother and father would always bring me when I did good in school yes, I was spoiled since I was little. The driver didn’t open my door oh no Benjamin himself walked around the car open the door and took my hand helping me out of the SUV. We walked into the restaurant the hostess knew me so she greeted me then looked at Benjamin. He wasn’t here for many years so he didn’t know the people yet. “Oh, Cayla this is Benjamin Devon.” I introduced him, she looked at him “Like in the Benjamin Devon your fiancé?” “Yes, the one and only.” He said taking her hand and shaking it. “I made a reservation in one of your private dining rooms please.” “Yes, off course follow me.” She said. Clearly Benjamin made provision for privacy tonight. Cayla opens the door and puts the menus on the table she was followed by our waiter that wanted to pull out the chair for me but Benjamin was there first. “I’ve got this.” He told the waiter a bit snappy if you ask me but what do I know. The only places Morne took me was Taco bell and Burger King. When both of us where seated Benjamin ordered their best bottle of champagne “Are we celebrating something?” I asked him “Yes well I’m back we are celebrating our engagement.” That took me a bit by surprise. “Oh.” “What does that mean?” He asked me “Just surprised that’s all.” “I hope I can surprise you at least once a week when we are married.” I gave him a half smile. “Oh no what was that?” “You are very observant?” I told him. “Well, a women’s face can tell you more than her mouth does. So out with it.” “I don’t want to spoil our night.” “Has this got anything to do with my mother?” “Yes.” “Then spill it.”
The waiter came back with the champagne which he opened and poured us each a glass. Benjamin didn’t take his eyes of me while the waiter was there. “Can I take your order for appetizers?” “Yes, the Chilled Maine Lobster Cocktail and East coast Oysters on half shell’s please.” I looked at him not because he ordered for me but because that was my two favorite appetizers. “What did I do wrong now?” He asked “Nothing that is my two favorite appetizers.” “See we already have something in common. Now back to my mom.” He said. “Do we really have to?” “Yes, Jojo I need to know what I need to fix because believe me I don’t want you to obey me I want you to be yourself. And why did you have that face when I said I wanted to surprise you at least once a week?” I looked down and said “Okay fine, the obey thing came in with the dress shopping.” “Oh, the ugly dress she picked out for you?” “So, you know? Did you plan it?” He put his hands in the air “No no stop right there I had nothing to do with it she just called me and told me.” “Yes, that was a test to see if I’m going to be difficult and if I’m going to obey you, her words not mine.” He reached over the table and took my hand in his, “I would never expect you to just obey me Jojo, I want you to have conversations with me and if I’m being a dick I want you to tell me that. I most definitely don’t want a woman that’s just going to agree with everything I say.” “Well, that is what your mother thinks.” “Well, I’m not my mother and you are not marrying her you are marrying me and we will live on our own so they don’t have any say in our relationship, okay?” “Okay.” “And the surprise thing?” “She said all men cheat and that I should be ready that you will cheat on me and not make a fuss over it. So that’s not the kind of surprises I want Benjamin you can leave the surprises just don’t cheat on me.” He actually got up from his chair and came to sit next to me on his knees he took my hands in his look me in the eyes and said. “Joelle, I promise you I will never cheat on you and yes never is a very long time but I promise you I will never ever cheat on you, when we are married it’s for the good and the bad and marriage means something to me.” I wanted to say but what about all the models but I didn’t instead I thought about Morne and if I should tell Benjamin the truth about Morne and I mean the whole truth.
When our starters came Benjamin and I were talking and actually flirting with each other it felt so natural and he was definitely someone I would have dated. He was so easy to be around. He fed me some oysters and I fed him. The more we joked the more I could see a future with him but also the more I felt guilty, his indiscretions where out in the open mean while I was hiding mine and if we want to go into this relationship without any secrets between us, I need to tell him the truth. I decided to jump in. “So, are you staying at home?” I asked him “No I’m staying in a Hotel I don’t want my mother to know I’m back yet I want you and me to get to know each other first before she gives her opinions.” “I thought her opinion didn’t matter.” “It doesn’t I just listen and do what ever I want in any case. Why are you asking me where I’m staying?” “There is something else we need to talk about but not in public.” “So, you want to come back to my hotel?” He asked with his eyebrows raised. “Not for that, to talk.” “And you don’t want to talk here, it’s very private.” “Don’t you want to be alone with me?” I asked, clearly, he didn’t find me attractive. He leaned over the table “Get out of your head, I’m afraid of what I will do when we are alone.” He said with a smile on his face but I didn’t worry because after I told him what I had to he will kick me out and there will be none of that. “I’m sure you’ll be able to handle it.” “Well then in that case let’s go.”
