I was shocked and a bit offended that my mom would think that I would cheat on my wife, being here in Europe I’m doing what I need to to get it out of my system, if anyone is going to cheat it would be her especially after she had sex for the first time, she would think why did she wait so long. “Oh come on Benjamin your father has been cheating on me for years it’s not like it’s a secret, that’s just what men do.” My father has been cheating on my mom for years and she think it’s normal? What the actual fuck? “Are you serious?” I asked her “Off course I am don’t sound so surprised, you think all the nights his working late, his actually working?” “Mmmm yes.” “Mmmmm no my dear son his been fucking other women.” “Mom!” “What? I can’t swear?” “No off course you can I just didn’t expect that from you neither did I expect that you would stay with a man that cheats on you.” “At first I did it for you kids and then I got so use to it and use to my life I didn’t want to leave him, so I learned to live with it.” “So, you expect that every man would do it?” “Yes, off course.” “Well, I won’t.” “If you say so son but the other reason I called is to say you should stay longer and enjoy yourself a little more before you come back and deal with your responsibilities.” “I’m getting mix signals here mom, you say I should stay and dad wants me on the first plane out of Paris.” “Ignore your dad for another 2 weeks then you come back, it’s enough time for you to enjoy yourself and enough time for your dad to calm down because you didn’t jump when he said you should jump.” “If you can handle dad.” “Off course I can.” “Well okay mom see you in 2 weeks.” “Bye son.” “Bye mom.”
I was shocked and a bit sad for my mom for staying with someone that cheats on her and that is what she expects from all men. I do what I do to have no regrets before I get married because when I get married it will be forever and I won’t cheat on her. The thing with an arrange marriage is just will we gel, obviously it won’t be love at first sight or even love at all I think we will have to learn to love each other but still I won’t cheat on her. I got back in bed and I couldn’t go back to sleep, I was thinking about Jojo, the marriage, what my mom said and what will happen if she never loves me or I never love her. I turned around on my other side for the 100th time and said out load “Jeez thanks mom.”

When we got home, I immediately went to my room I wanted to study for my test, which was useless in my mom and dad’s eyes but I was going to be a lawyer come high or low water, that was my dream and that is one thing they won’t take from me, Benjamin should know that. I open my books and started to study but at the back of my mind I kept on thinking what if Benjamin forbids me from working of being a lawyer of following my dreams so I decided to do what I was against all this time, I decided to slide into his DM’s I didn’t have his number so I couldn’t message him. “Okay Jojo how are you going to start this?” I asked myself out loud “Hi Benjamin this is Jojo your fiancé….” I typed but then deleted it again. “Hi Benjamin this is Joelle.” My finger was hovering over the send button, I didn’t know if I should do it, I was going to wait to have any contact with him until I see him but maybe this is better that we speak before we meet. I press send and put my phone down. We had a time difference so I wasn’t expecting him to answer me immediately in fact I didn’t expect him to answer me at all actually.
I went back to my books my phone forgotten. When Mel came knocking on my door telling me it was time for dinner, I saw what the time was, I lost myself totally in my books. “I’ll be down in a minute.” “Your mom and dad are already waiting at the table.” “Oh fuck.” I slam my books closed, didn’t look at my phone and walked downstairs where my mom and dad was waiting for me. “About time.” My dad said when he saw me. “Sorry I was studying.” “I don’t know why?” My mom said, “You going to have all the money in the world, why you would want to work is beyond me.” “Well, I want to.” “But Joelle….” My mom started. My dad interrupted “Let’s not talk about this tonight you know you not going to change her mind so let’s eat in peace, shall we?” Was my dad actually defending me? What was going on with my parents today. “Fine, but I’m not happy about it.” My mom got the last stab in “Dually noted.” I said as the chef brought out our food.
We all ate in silence until my dad said, “I spoke to Benjamin Snr his going to tell Jnr to get on the first plane back to the US, we want the two of you to at least see each other before the wedding.” “Well, that would be nice to meet him before the wedding.” “Our thoughts exactly.” “Yes, and then he can go for all sexual transmitted diseases test, his not coming close to Joelle without that report.” “Jessica!” My dad said out loud. “What you know it’s true?” “We still at the dinner table.” “I don’t care where we are that child is a man whore I still can’t believe you won’t cancel the contract.” My dad put his knife and fork down and pushed his chair out. “I’m done with this conversation; this wedding will take place.”
