Chapter 13 Chapter 13
Jojo
As we walked past the handbag department at Louis Vuitton, I heard Mrs. Devon voice my mom grabbed my hand to stand still, clearly, she heard her voice to. We were standing behind one of the display cabinets actually ease dropping as to what Mrs. Devon was saying and let’s just say she didn’t put me in a good light with whoever she was talking she was also bad mouthing my mom “Can you believe that Jessica wants my son, my son my pride and joy to come home earlier, I actually phoned him and said he should stay away longer and enjoy himself because when his married to that girl that thinks she’s better than anyone else he won’t have any fun, I mean she’s 24 and still a virgin.” My mother looked at me and put her finger on her mouth clearly telling me to keep quiet. The other person said “But wasn’t that by your request.” “It was but I never thought that would happen, come on, we are in the 20th century for God’s sake if it wasn’t for my husband and her father, I wouldn’t even let this marriage go through. My son needs a woman that can satisfy him and I can tell you now that little girl is not it.” I wanted to walk up to her and slap her but I knew I couldn’t no matter what she says Benjamin and I will still be married and she will still be my mother-in-law. My mom took my hand and walked straight up to her.
“Oh, you here.” She said shocked to see us. “Yes, Diane we are here and just so you know we heard everything you just told Lily here and let me make myself crystal clear, if it wasn’t for my husband this wedding would have been cancelled a long time ago, your son is a man wore.” “Mom” I said trying shocked and to make her keep quiet. “No Jojo, if she can bad mouth you then I can bad mouth her son the only thing is I have the guts to do it to her face she on the other hand does it behind our backs.” I could see Mrs. Devon turning all different colors but it ended up at red. “You will not talk about my son like that.” She said taking a step closer to my mother. I had to step in between the two or there might have been a physical fight. “You keep your mouth of my daughter.” “Ladies.” I started. But Mrs. Devon didn’t want anything to do with it “You lady keep your mouth shut.” I pushed my mom backwards and said “Let’s just go, I’m sure Chanel will have just as pretty shoes.” “Yes, leave I was here first.” I turned around and without anyone’s permission I looked at Mrs. Devon and said. “Mrs. Devon weather we like it or not you are going to be my mother-in-law let’s try to be civil, shall we?” The lady that was with Mrs. Devon helped me “Come on Diane let’s go, Jojo is right you are going to be family so let’s not say more things that is hurtful.” “Fine but I’m not leaving I was here first.” Mrs. Devon said like a kid in school. My mom wanted to say something but I hooked my arm into hers and said “Leave her mom she’s making an ass out of herself, lets be the better persons and walk away.” My mother looked at me with actual admiration.
As soon as we got in the SUV she said, “I did something right with you.” And then she was quiet again. To think our morning started with a fight and now she had my back the whole morning. “To Chanel.” She told her driver. At Chanel we got the royal treatment, when we walked in, we both got a glass of champagne and not the warm stuff the cold stuff they only keep for their regulars. “What can we help with today?” “We are looking for wedding shoes.” My mom said. “No problem come through.” We know where everything in the store was, we didn’t need to be taken but today we were escorted, I think that made my mom feel a little better especially after the chaos of this morning. We followed the sales assistant that brought out a selection of white shoes for me, I really didn’t care which pair I took but I needed to look interested for my mother, she wanted to get shoes today so I’m getting shoes. I tried to walk with each pair until I felt comfortable and the most comfortable pair won. “This one.” I told my mom. “Okay great.” We paid for the shoes and went back to the SUV “Home Mam?” The driver asked. “No to my husbands office.” We never bother my father at work. “Why are we going to dad’s office?” “I need to talk to him about this wedding.” “Can’t I go home?” “No, you are going with he needs to hear it from you to.” “What?” “That it is a mistake.” “Mom this is my life since I was 5 why would he change his mind now?” “First of all, Jojo we are richer than them, we don’t need them to take over or be the biggest oil family in the USA.” “I don’t know if dad is going to see it that way.” “Well, if we don’t try, we won’t know.” I never saw my mom so worked up about anything so I decided to leave her and just tag along.
When we got to my father’s office his assistant was very surprise to see us. “Is he busy?” My mom asked my dad’s assistant “No you can go through.” My mom didn’t even knock she just walked in, when my dad looked up, he was just as surprised “Jessica?” He asked. Then he saw me “Jojo?” “We need to talk.” My mom said to my dad. “And it couldn’t wait until I’m home?” “No, it can’t.” My mom took a seat opposite my father’s desk leaving a seat open for me, I took the seat but my eyes where cast downwards I didn’t want to look my dad in the eyes when my mother spill the beans so to speak. “What is this all about?” “The wedding?” My mom said and my dad stopped moving.
