Chapter 99 – Sisters Of The Blue Moon

**Julia POV.**

**THREE YEARS EARLIER.**

By the time morning rolled in, Amelia was gone. She agreed to my proposal in principle, and accepted the idea of playing my game. She realized, after all, that she could only gain from following my plan. She had nothing to lose and everything to win.

I stayed back at the lighthouse, right inside the attic, sitting comfortably under the giant beacon, patiently waiting for Dan to turn up.

And he did. A couple of hours after sunrise.

I looked around. My vantage point at the top of the lighthouse allowed me a bird’s eye view of the entire landscape. I could spot Dan arriving alone. He was so anxious to get his hands on the documents that he didn’t try to arrange for backup.

I also gambled on the possibility that it was too late for him to assemble more manpower. Not to mention that he wanted the files for himself and didn’t want witnesses.

I also gambled on the hope that Amelia would honor her side of the deal. Not because she had integrity, but because she benefited personally from doing so.

I watched with a hawkish gaze as Dan stood at the bottom of the lighthouse, tracking the location of the blinks with his palmtop device.

He looked up at the roof, sighed nervously, and then began to climb the stairs.

I got into full action mode. It was now or never.

I hid behind the door.

As soon as Dan stepped inside the attic, I slipped out from behind the door, and slammed it shut from outside. I locked the padlock and ran down the staircase to exit the lighthouse in a matter of minutes.

I ran towards Dan’s parked car and slid under it. I lay there, flat on the sand, with the stationary car standing above me, watching intently.

Soon enough, I heard the roar of another car engine. It pulled over a hundred yards away, and Douglas and Amelia got down from that vehicle.

“She is in the lighthouse,” Douglas hollered while keeping his eyes glued to a palmtop device similar to Dan’s. “I am going after her. You stay here and keep an eye out for Dan or anyone else.”

Amelia stayed put as told. Douglas drew his gun and entered the lighthouse.

I came out from hiding and walked over to Amelia.

“Your plan worked,” she chuckled. “Douglas thinks you are wearing the tracker, and it is you inside the lighthouse. What now? Stage two?”

“They are both armed, and we are not,” I was breathing rapidly in excitement and nervous anticipation. “Stage two has to happen fast. The moment they both step out into the sand.”

That happened in less than five minutes. Both Dan and Douglas exited the building together, guns in hand, looking for me.

They found me, unexpectedly sitting beside Amelia in the passenger seat of Douglas’ car. Amelia was in the driver’s seat. She turned on the ignition and pushed the gas pedal hard.

The car engine roared, shattering the peace and quiet of the deserted area. And then the car hurtled towards both men and rammed into Dan, missing Douglas narrowly.

Dan lay motionless on the sand, blood gushing out and forming a puddle around him. Douglas fired a couple of shots from his gun while scurrying for safety, both shots missing their targets — me and Amelia.

Both of us got down from the vehicle. I picked up Dan’s gun from the sand and handed it to Amelia. She leaped into the air like a leopard and made a dash for Douglas.

She caught up with him in a matter of a few seconds.

“Why?” Douglas screamed in dismay and disbelief. “Why are you betraying me? I accepted your deal! I have agreed to all your —”

“Julia offered me a better deal,” Amelia aimed the gun at him and pulled the trigger five times. Douglas dropped dead on the beach like a sawed-off tree trunk.

“Mission over,” Amelia turned in my direction and chuckled. “Both of them are gone. You have taken your revenge on the Claymore pack. And with Dan gone, no more running for you.”

“And you get to keep the classified files and do whatever you wish to with them,” I smiled in return. “But you may have to be on the run for the rest of your life.”

“No way! Are you crazy?” Amelia cackled her usual diabolical laugh. “I am going to stay right here, in this lighthouse, for as long as I want. Perhaps forever.”

“In this lighthouse?” I raised my brows. “Do you have a death wish? This place will be teeming with Claymore pack members and intelligence agents in a few minutes. Where will you hide?”

Amelia grinned wickedly. “Before I spared Emily’s life and let her go, I made her give me the exact location of the hidden vault inside this lighthouse. That’s where I have hidden the documents. And that’s where I will stay hidden unbeknownst to all.”
