Chapter 42 The Strange Teacher

Chapter 42 The Strange Teacher

Evelyn got into the car for the journey back with a head full of questions. Throughout the ride, Adrian kept sneaking glances at her, his eyes full of curiosity.

Evelyn noticed but didn't acknowledge it.

As they were almost home, Adrian finally spoke up: "I happen to have a villa I'm planning to sell. I heard you're looking to move recently, so how about I sell it to you for two million? Consider it repaying the favor you did me today."

Evelyn raised an eyebrow and scoffed, "Looks like you really hate owing me a favor."

Adrian let out a cold laugh, neither confirming nor denying it.

Evelyn didn't plan to be polite with him either. She happened to have the two million Jack gave her, and Adrian clearly knew this, deliberately naming that price. But as the heir to Morgan Corporation, he definitely wouldn't use a one-million villa to scam her out of two million. The villa he had would only be worth more, not less. It would be stupid not to take this deal.

So Evelyn readily accepted: "Have Assistant Parker send the villa information to my phone."

As soon as Assistant Parker heard himself mentioned, he happily agreed and eagerly held out his phone, "Miss Grant, let's be friends, add me on Insta, and Twitter too, oh, do you use—"

"Ahem." Adrian coughed twice.

Assistant Parker's voice stopped. He looked at Adrian, who had turned his head to look out the window, and quietly pulled back, adding on behalf of his Mr. Morgan: "Miss Grant, don't you have our Mr. Morgan's contact information yet? How about I give it to you—"

"No need." Evelyn refused decisively. "If I need anything, I'll just contact you."

Assistant Parker almost couldn't hold back the corners of his mouth. Fortunately, he quickly turned his head away before meeting his boss's gloomy eyes.

The car stopped smoothly outside the Ashford family villa.

As soon as Evelyn got out, she was met with two pairs of resentful eyes from the second floor of the villa. She smiled without caring and walked cheerfully toward the garage.

She was indeed in a good mood, so much so that as soon as she entered the house, she was surrounded by the three family members.

Rose looked amazed: "Evie, this dress is so beautiful, where did you get it?"

Kyle was somewhat worried: "Evie, did you make friends with some rich person? But we shouldn't accept favors from others for no reason."

Gabriel was quite certain: "Such a beautiful dress, sister can make it herself, why would she need someone else to give it to her?"

Then he looked at Evelyn expectantly: "Sister, did you make this yourself?"

Evelyn nodded with a smile.

Gabriel immediately cheered, showing a rare boyish excitement on his face.

Kyle and Rose couldn't help but laugh, lovingly patting his head, then circling Evelyn with compliments. She was the one who both made and wore the clothes, yet they were even happier than her.

Influenced by this cheerful atmosphere, Evelyn couldn't wait to share the news about finding a villa: "Once the villa over there is cleaned up, we can move in. It shouldn't take more than a few days."

As soon as the words left her mouth, the three Grants froze, then their eyes all turned red.

Evelyn didn't get the excited cheers she'd imagined. Instead, she saw Rose turn around to wipe her tears, leaving her completely confused—even, rarely, a bit flustered.

"You, you don't want to move? If you don't want to, we don't have to..."

"Silly sister." Gabriel smiled and hugged her tightly. "We're just too happy."

Evelyn had never been hugged so closely by anyone before. She was still in a daze when Gabriel, with red eyes, looked at Kyle and Rose. "Come on, Mom and Dad, this is a good thing. We should be smiling. How can we cry?"

"Right, right, we should smile."

Kyle and Rose immediately agreed, treating Evelyn like a treasure as they led her to a seat. "Evie, sit down first. Mom will make you some late-night snacks."

"Dad will prepare hot water for you to wash your face."

The garage quickly became lively again, filled with laughter and joy. Watching this warm scene, Evelyn couldn't help but smile.

This two-million villa was totally worth it, she thought.

After a good night's sleep, Evelyn woke up early as usual the next day. Despite the drizzle outside, she insisted on running around the villa for half an hour.

Gabriel couldn't talk her out of it, so he ran with her. Only after nagging her to change into dry clothes and drink hot water did he finally let her leave for school.

Evelyn was undoubtedly late, but the classroom was unusually lively, with no sign of class starting.

"I heard he's really handsome."

"Just like that, he fixed the bug."

Several girls gathered together, gossiping like fangirls about something.

Evelyn listened for a while but couldn't make sense of it, only learning that a new computer teacher had arrived.

However, computer class was in the afternoon, so it was several hours before Evelyn finally solved the mystery.

The new teacher the girls described as handsome and talented was none other than Christopher, the guy from Morgan Corporation's California branch who had threatened to install a virus and acted somewhat neurotic.

"I'm really looking forward to spending time with you all." Christopher swung his coat dramatically and winked at Evelyn. "And a certain old friend—I told you we'd meet again."

Evelyn blinked her eyes, stung by the sight, and looked toward the infirmary, thinking: There are more and more weird teachers at this school.

On stage, Christopher didn't seem bothered by the disdain. He pressed the Enter key, and a poster appeared on everyone's screen.

"Hacking competition?" someone read out the poster's title.

"That's right. I'm hosting a hacking competition at California High School. The champion will win one million dollars."

As soon as he finished speaking, the whole class erupted.

That was one million dollars.

Even though many students in this class came from families worth hundreds of millions, their allowances weren't a million dollars—let alone earning a million through their own abilities before even graduating.

Evelyn's eyes lit up too. She had used up all the two million Jack gave her to buy the villa. If she could win this million, it would make many things much more convenient.

But what was the background of this weird guy in front of her, to be able to casually offer one million dollars—he couldn't earn that much teaching computer class in California for ten years.

While she was thinking, Christopher walked right up to her and slapped the registration form on her desk. "How about it, Evelyn? Sign up."

Evelyn raised an eyebrow. This guy really was coming after her.

But—so what?

She didn't hesitate to pick up her pen and write her name on the registration form.

Once she got this million, Gabriel's tuition for football school would be covered too. Why wouldn't she want it?

Almost the instant she finished signing, Christopher excitedly grabbed the registration form, his eyes burning with fierce determination.

"Excellent. Three days from now at the competition venue, see you there!"

With that, he left the classroom laughing, leaving the students looking at each other in confusion.

After a while, someone finally came to their senses and shouted after his back: "Teacher, we haven't signed up yet."

"Teacher, you haven't even taught the class yet..."
