Chapter 40 Molly Appears
Chapter 40 Molly Appears
The VIP room in the villa came with a wardrobe full of haute couture gowns. Assistant Parker eagerly introduced them to Evelyn: "These haute couture pieces get swapped out regularly, specially prepared for VIP guests who need to change at the banquet. Our Mr. Morgan is a super super super VIP here, so this room is exclusively his."
Evelyn nodded and asked casually, "That's impressive. Who owns this estate? They must be really close with Mr. Morgan?"
Assistant Parker answered without thinking: "Oh, it's—"
"Bob Parker." Adrian suddenly interrupted Assistant Parker. "Go explain to Mr. Morrison that something came up here, and I'll catch up with him for drinks later."
Assistant Parker froze, not daring to question his boss's decision. Muttering "Is that Mr. Morrison even worth a special trip?" while smiling and telling Evelyn to browse on her own, he hurried out of the VIP room.
Now only Adrian and Evelyn remained in the room.
While browsing through the gowns, Evelyn observed Adrian lounging on the sofa scrolling through his phone. Finally, she decided to be direct. "Mr. Morgan's way of interrupting people is pretty clumsy."
Adrian raised an eyebrow, not looking up, just smiling slightly. "But I got what I wanted in the end, didn't I?"
"What's the identity of this estate owner that's so mysterious you have to keep it secret?"
"Not mysterious at all. Anyone could find out with a little digging." Adrian leaned back on the sofa, looking at Evelyn with a half-smile. "I'm sure Miss Grant is capable of finding out herself. I just don't want to make it that easy for you."
Evelyn frowned at him, then after a few seconds, she actually laughed in frustration.
They had no grudge between them. It would be such a simple favor, yet he deliberately made things difficult for her, taking pleasure in causing her trouble. What a—terrible personality.
Adrian turned back to his phone and said, "I'm guessing Miss Grant came in here for her own reasons. If you don't change and leave soon, it'll be harder to move around once the banquet starts."
He wasn't wrong about that.
Evelyn didn't want to waste time with him either. She turned to seriously browse the selection, but soon ran into an awkward problem—among the nearly thirty gowns in the wardrobe, not a single one fit properly.
The original owner's body type was just too unique.
After watching his phone for a while without hearing any movement, Adrian walked over, took one look at the dress sizes, and understood. He immediately called Assistant Parker.
"There are no gowns here that fit Miss Grant. Buy some and bring them over."
After hanging up, he sat back down on the sofa. His eyes seemed to be browsing his phone, but his words returned to Evelyn. "I've seen Miss Grant's skills and I understand your personality. In that situation earlier, why didn't you fight back?"
Evelyn glanced at him and sat down on the sofa too, but didn't answer his question.
Adrian looked up at Evelyn sitting expressionlessly beside him, growing even more curious.
Why would a high school student from an ordinary background go to such lengths to attend this kind of banquet? Could her reason be the same as his?
Was it also for that woman?
"They're here, they're here!" Noisy footsteps sounded outside the door, with someone shouting excitedly as they rushed past.
Evelyn looked at Adrian questioningly, and saw a flash of disgust in his eyes that he quickly covered up.
A moment later, Adrian chuckled softly. "Let's go watch the show."
Evelyn gave him a suspicious look, then got up and followed him to the stairway.
The VIP room was on the second floor, and the commotion was coming from the first floor. Their current position gave them a good view of what was happening below.
Evelyn immediately spotted the dazzling Molly.
"Miss Wright is still so beautiful."
"Meeting you here for the holidays is what I look forward to most every year."
Compliments kept coming from all around, clearly audible even on the second floor. But Evelyn seemed to hear none of it, her eyes bloodshot as she stared fixedly at the dress Molly was wearing.
This dress was a gift left to Evelyn by her birth mother.
Molly was actually wearing this dress. How dare she, how dare she!
"Miss Grant, Miss Grant." Adrian frowned and nudged Evelyn, looking at her in shock.
The murderous intent and hatred in her eyes just now were exactly like that person in his memory.
Evelyn looked away, her gaze at Adrian still carrying overwhelming emotion. She quickly wiped the moisture from the corner of her eyes and hurried back to the VIP room.
When Adrian followed into the room, Evelyn had already cut up more than half of the evening gowns.
"You—" He cried out in surprise, but didn't know what to say. After hesitating for a long time, he ultimately didn't speak, only thinking to himself that these clothes were bought by that Davis person anyway, so if she cut them up, so be it.
But after watching from the side for a while, Adrian realized Evelyn wasn't just venting her emotions like he thought. The fabric pieces she cut out were very methodical—even somewhat familiar.
"I need you to get me some materials." Evelyn looked up at him, her tone commanding.
Adrian wanted to say things like "We don't seem to be that close" or "Is that how you ask people for favors?" But what actually came out was just a simple word—"Okay."
...
When Assistant Parker rushed back with the evening gowns, the atmosphere in the hall was already quite lively. The broken glass and Isabelle's blood on the floor had been cleaned up, and everyone was crowding around Molly with compliments, as if the earlier chaos had never happened at all.
Assistant Parker clicked his tongue twice and hurried up the stairs to the VIP room. When he pushed open the door, he was stunned by the scene before him.
Evening gown scraps covered the floor, and a sewing machine had appeared from somewhere. Evelyn was skillfully sewing a dress. And his usually cold, uninterested-in-everything Mr. Morgan was now staring at Evelyn in fascination, his eyes full of amazement.
"Mr. Morgan." Assistant Parker spoke softly. "Do you still need these clothes I brought?"
Adrian's gaze instantly returned to its usual indifference. He turned to look at him and responded lightly, "Hmm?"
Assistant Parker was confused, not knowing if he had been spacing out or hadn't heard him clearly. He raised his voice: "These clothes I bought—do you still need them?"
As he finished speaking, the sewing machine also stopped.
Evelyn stood up, holding up the gown, and said, "Not needed anymore."
It was an exquisitely crafted evening gown. If he hadn't witnessed the entire process with his own eyes, Adrian would never have believed this dress could be made by one person in such a short time.
And he now understood why those cutting shapes had seemed familiar—tonight was really going to be quite a show.
"Mr. Morgan?" While waiting for Evelyn to change, Assistant Parker couldn't help but look at Adrian, who kept showing an inexplicable smile. "Are you alright?"
Almost the instant he finished speaking, the VIP room door opened.
Then Assistant Parker's jaw dropped too. "This, this this this..."
This dress was exactly the same as the one Molly was wearing downstairs.
