Chapter 103

Chapter 103
Lucian

The whole saga with the media team a few days back was handled with careful precision so as not to cause or raise anymore questions in the minds of the people.  Haven hills has somehow become quiet over the past days and standing in front of my dressing mirror the night before my wedding with Evie sent cold chills running down my spine.

Over the past days, Arthur had taken out time to orient me on everything I needed to know about being a werewolf or should I say beast. I am the most powerful of my kind, my enemies have risen in their numbers the day that ointment triggered this part of me, and a whole lot of other things I can't seem to remember because I wasn't really paying attention.

“Nice Tuxedo you’ve got here” a hoarse voice echoed from behind followed by the sound of footsteps as my father walked into my room without even looking, I could tell  he was the one as his familiar scent hit my nostrils courtesy of my new identity.

“Hey dad,” I greeted softly before turning my gaze in his direction.

“Hey there son, tomorrow is your big day so i figured you might need company for the night,” he said, making me chuckle.

“Are you sure about that or is this just the best way you can avoid your wife?” I asked softly, I could hear his heart stop the minute I said that. He swallowed hard, staring at me with a firm look on his face.

“Can we not talk about her right now?You might as well be the one to bring yourself bad luck on your big day tomorrow,” he replied.

“Come on now dad, you know we’d have to talk about this one way or another right? i for one, know how close both of you were, you were inseperable…” i continued.

“Well, nothing lasts forever now son, get used to it.” he replied, moving to the minibar to pour himself whiskey. “care for any?” he asked with raised brow as he took another glass.

“sure,” i replied softly as I walked towards him.

he poured me a glass which we both gulped down simultaneously letting out an audible sigh as the whiskey burned down our throat.

“Son, are you sure you’re okay with this? you know you can always call off the wedding and the east coast would still be yours,” he began.

“what?!” i exclaimed softly staring at him in disbelief. “are you bluffing?” I asked with furrowed brows.

“i mean every word i say Lucian, i mean the main reason why i wanted you to get married was so as to share the responsibility of handling that specific part of the city, but right now, seeing that you’re the very creature we’ve dealt with over the years and asking you to continue that legacy - it feels wrong.” he explained.

I paused for a while as I stared at him in awe, “why are you telling me this now?” asked.

“because, I don't want you to enter this marriage in a hurry, I don't want you to live a life of regret as I'm doing right now…. I loved her so much you know, hence why her betrayal hit me this difficult, of course I know she's vicious and ruthless like me, but I never thought her cruelty was so strong that she would want  to steal a….” he tried to say the words with a shaky voice.

“Don’t complete the words father,” I quickly interjected, “ please don’t.” I added softly, heaving a deep sigh of relief. “To be honest father, at this point our enemies would be right to say we’ve become weak,” I began.

“The good news is, at least you’re still my father,” I said with a smile which he gladly reciprocated “but the bad news is, I wished I'd found out about all of these a little bit earlier,” I added bowing my head lightly. “maybe i’d have known how to treat Evie a little bit better, maybe I'd have been able to understand her, maybe i wouldn’t have used her as my personal tool to win the heart of the people, and maybe we’d have met under a different circumstances.” i explained,

“father, my reason for this marriage changed from just the power i’d get from it a long time ago, it became because of the love i’ve been trying to tell myself wasn’t real, i could feel a connection between me and Evie from the first day we crossed paths, but i’ve just been a coward to accept it. With that out of the way, I'm not changing my mind towards the wedding.

“Alpha Lucian?” Ethan’s voice echoed in my ears

“Ethan?” I called out softly, staring at him with furrowed brows, “what are you doing here?” I asked softly…

“I couldn't sleep,” he said as he walked up to me in his pyjamas.

“Is this her son?” dad asked but I just replied with a light nod.

“Come here man,” I said, gesturing for him to come over…

“When he got to where I was, we both took the couch in the balcony as the three of us kept staring at the night sky, the silence of the night taking over.

“Mom says, you both are getting married tomorrow,” Ethan said, his voice cutting through with silence like a blade.

I sighed, moving my gaze in his direction for a while as I stared at him, “yes, she's right,” I said softly.

He went silent again, “Promise you'd take care of my mom,” he said softly staring deeply into my eyes with an expression that says he meant every single word.

“I promise Ethan, once everything is over including this whole power and identity saga, I promise to take you and your mom to somewhere a lot safer.” I replied.

“Uhm… that would be nice..” he said, pausing for a while, “but Alpha Lucian, I don't think I would want that…” he added

I turned my gaze towards him, wondering if I had just heard correctly or it was just my ears playing tricks on me.

“What? Why?” I asked

“Because, I know my mom isn't ready to talk about this but I don't think she would be able to teach me how to control my powers…” he began.

“What are you talking about?” I was confused.

“Alpha Lucian, I know mom still sees me as a little boy, but I don't think you do… so I'd like to ask you something, as a friend,” he said.

I paused for a moment, looked at my sides, pinched myself a little and blinked five times just to be sure I wasn't dreaming or this powers wasn't playing new tricks on me, when I was sure I stared at Ethan knowing something had changed as all of a sudden he wasn't sounding like Ethan anymore and by this I mean he sounded totally different more like a man.

“Uhmm… are you sure this is Ethan?” I asked.

“Of course Alpha Lucian,” he replied letting out a light chuckle, it's me… “I just had a few times to think while mom is preparing for the wedding tomorrow.” he continued, “I think seeing my father that day triggered a new power in me,” he said.

“I was able to see into my moms past and why she agreed to get married to you in the first place, “ he blurted out making my blood run cold.

If he saw that, it only means one thing - and that was that he now knows everything, I mean Everything.

“What…” I murmured.

“Uhm… this seems more like a supernatural moment, so uhm I think this is my cue to leave you both alone,” A hoarse voice interrupted - it was my dad's, he stood up and said his goodbye as he drank his last glass, “see you tomorrow… hmm..” he said with a light nod.

I turned my gaze back to Ethan who by this time had gone silent but before I could say anything he continued… “I know my mom only agreed to this to get me back and to protect me but I know I can't ignore what I felt the minute my dads eyes and mine met so before telling anyone else I'm just here to tell you that I'd like to go back to the pack, and I think I'll be needing your help for that..” he announced.

The minute he said that I felt chills all over me as the gravity of what this ‘little man’ was asking of me, how does he expect me to face Evie if I eventually agreed to this?
